While most reviews for Manila Zoo would probably be more towards the negative side - talking about…read morethe sad state of the animals and the increasing need for rehabilitation of the zoo, there is light at the end of the tunnel in the form of Kinder Zoo. This is the paid area inside Manila's Zoological and Botanical Garden that offers a little more animal interaction than what you would get if you just go through the general admission area. They have cuckatoos and Hyacinth macaw, a butterfly holding area, horseback riding for kids and so much more. You can also feed a 50-year-old Sulcata Tortoise, watch the playful Gibbon or pet the potbellied pig. For kids who are more into wildlife, they can have animal encounters with a Cayman Crocodile or a Burmese Python. Kinder Zoo isn't just about animals. Kids can have fun by taking a dip in their clean pool. Do plan to bring your bathing suit and a towel if you intend to go inside Kinder Zoo, the pool is really clean and is refreshing for kids who have been walking inside Manila Zoo all day. They also have other fun activities such as zip lines, wall climbing or crossing a hanging bridge. Tip: The entrance to Manila Zoo is different from Kinder Zoo. Prepare about P100 (non-Manilan rate; if you live in Manila the rate is half off with an ID) for the entrance fee into Manila Zoo for adults and children above 4 feet and another P250 per child for Kinder Zoo and 100 per adult.

You will have to find your way around. Rated 4 stars due to entertaining factor: We happened to walk by the pond with massive freshwater fishes and a crew mentioned of feeding food availability for fee. Another we walked by the small trail only because my daughter saw 2 small eagles standing on perch on their own in open area. We came upon the area with crews readily to provide hands on activities with selfies opportunities with adult eagle and handful colorful parrots. Encounter of Feeding the giraffes. Another selfies opportunities. Very close encounter with mammals in their cages. Not many other zoos offer it. Missed opportunities are abound sadly: For sure we missed other animal viewings without proper map. We noticed "feeding food availability" sign, but none are near to buy or where to go (except for giraffe encounter). We walked in couple areas where we aren't sure if there are animals or empty spots. Proper advertisement location could use updated. Definitely having a map locating feeding areas & engaging with animals display. Staffs are friendly, no doubt. The place is clean and properly maintained.

We covered a lot of ground area, and if you're travelling in a group, you're going to experience a lot of stops between the different areas. I particularly enjoyed the giraffe and arapaima sections, where we got to feed the animals. The posted signages are usually informative enough, detailing the genus, species, conservation status (e.g. threatened, endangered, critically endangered) and distribution of the animals with fun facts about their behavior, physiology or numbers, so there's not much need for a guide. That being said, it was pretty cool how my professor asked an employee checking on the animals about hteir conditions, and he provided much more info than the signage, even asking us on our opinions on zoos and the condition of Philippine biodiversity. It was a thoughtful exchange that was probably the highlight of that particular visit.

It does not take an animal rights activist to tell you that the animals in this place are poorly taken care of. I was appalled with the conditions of the animals in their small zoo, and I just couldn't help but feel sad for the wild animals that are being kept here in small cages and really well-worn enclosures. There is a crocodile in one of the enclosures that couldn't even shift around because his little pool is too small. I just felt like the animals weren't look after really well, and they should do something about that. The entrance fee is very minimal, and I would gladly pay more if it meant better conditions for the animals. Anyway, aside from the zoo part which was really depressing, I'm glad that there are plenty of trees in the park. I am big advocate of green spaces, and I'm glad that the trees and the diverse flora of the place is well and alive that there are some animals that I wouldn't imagine seeing in this little pocket of green near my neighborhood: colorful birds, squirrels and small rodents just hopping merrily from one branch to another. I also love the lake, which is very pretty and photogenic. Lots of couples get their pre-nup photos taken here, and I hope the fees from those photo shoots are being put into good use for the maintenance of the park.

I love all the geeky things I can find here, from the new Monopoly game to some science sets (I've always wanted my own chemistry set as a kid but no one ever thought of giving me such a geeky gift). Now that I always have a toddler in tow, I have to stop by Hobbes & Landes every time we go to Greenbelt. Aside from muscle memory at work, I really just love taking my daughter there because the little Lego table keeps her occupied for a good solid hour. When she's done playing, she can always look at the miniature animal models that she loves. And while she's busy looking at the fish tank or playing with the Legos, mommy can go back to her days of geekery and look at the latest cool toys they have to offer.

You can pick up wide variety of educational toys, be it the Lego or the puzzle games. But my personal favorite is the wide variety of science themed toys that this place sells. My best pick so far has been a basic telescope (cost me around 3,000 peso) that I gifted to a friend's child. It was basic and affordable enough to kindle interest around stars, planet and galaxy. My second best pick would be a binocular (around1000 peso) which was a great gift to enable a kid to explore things around. Also, if you happen to look around, this place also sells craft materials like clay's, paint materials, art kits that you assemble and explore the creative side of your kids.

I can't say much about the price of admission... we were doing other things around Manila so we stayed in the connecting hotel H20. We planned to visit the aquarium anyway but we received two free tickets just by staying at the hotel. The exhibits consist of a bird show, sea lion show, oceanarium, trails of Antarctica, super toy collection, creepy crawlies, and jellyfish exhibit. There are some fish but I honestly felt like there were more bugs and other animals throughout the aquarium. I almost skipped over the Toy Collection exhibit... was I stupid for almost skipping it? I had a ton of fun in that section. lol. I do want to point out two things. The bird show and the sea lion show! When I visit places like this, I typically don't put much faith into these shows. My fiance had been there a long time ago, watched another show, and insisted. So we made sure that we made it to the back-to-back bird/sea lion show. It was so much more fun than it had any right to be. The main host/ringleader of those shows was this pregnant lady... I think she might be the best person to ever do that job! The highlight was without a doubt the animal shows.

I found vendors at food court to be pushy. I would wait for them to finish the bird sanctuary rebuild before going here. Take the ferry to Cebu and see the Aquarium which was amazing and much cheaper.

It's not every day they do it, (only on certain Saturday nights) so make sure you check when this event goes on!!! I really admire all of the detail and work put into the activities and especially the entertainment!!! We ate food at the restaurant here, which was perfect because we were so hungry for dinner. Every plate was a perfect sized amount for every person. The show is a must. The performers executed different and engaging choreos, and gave a show!!! From fire-dancing to cultural to LED dances, the show part of the night safari was amazing. Next, you learn about the many species of animals in the area with a quick walkthrough of each animal. After the show, we finally did the tour. We needed to use our own car since it's a large area to cover and are guided on where to drive to by the guide that joins us. The tigers up close were crazy to look at!!! The crocodile section was also very wild and scary being above so many. You get opportunities to feed them for extra payments but they aren't too expensive. Overall this was a great trip to bond over and was an amazing experience!!! PS. Make sure to have comfortable clothes for this adventure and spray some mosquito repellant if needed!!!

As for the zoo the people are nice, the show is good, and the animals seem happy despite being caged. One additional tip when you get to the monkey show him his face on your phone camera. He will be entertained and just may ask do your phone. Don't get too close and don't give it to him. Also enjoy the safari!
