I'm happy and grateful that I found relief here. Sciatica had never been a problem for me before but it became intense over a period of two months. Needed more than six ibuprofen per day for shooting nerve pain caused by muscle tightening. Tried muscle relaxers and physical therapy; those didn't work but acupuncture did. Initially I had to warm up to the idea, but am glad I did because in the long run, the benefits far outweighed my hesitation. The pairing of acupuncture and massage that Pacific Acupuncture Center provides is another plus and worked well for me. Now I'm done with regular visits, and am at the point of practicing their post visit advice of stretches, TENS and proper posture. I now seldom need meds for pain. (Yes, most days nothing!) I have the worst sciatica pain of my life and I am not getting relief even with narcotic and steroid medications. I am too far away from my usual Chinese doctor in Diamond Bar so I had to search on Yelp. Pacific acupuncture center is closest one and the reviews are excellent. We called around 9am and got a same day appointment at noon. Mia worked on me first to place acupuncture needles all over my body. Having experience in acupuncture, I think she is the most gentle acupuncturist because I barely feel the prick. She is also very accurate on her placement of the needles. After about 20 minutes, her husband Mike came and removed the needles. Then he performed Tui Na on me. He was also very gentle since he knows I am in great pain, and I know this could be rough. A few hours later, I can already stand and walk by myself. I am looking forward to the follow up treatment in two days. The treatment room has a unblocked ocean view. Found out that I had a uterine fibroid and the gyno was really no help besides the usual response that I needed to come back for an ultrasound to see if the fibroid has grown and then that I would have to operate. My hormones were out of whack and my period was lasting about 2-3 weeks which doesn't help when you're working at the office and constantly worrying about changing pads or wether or not your clothes were staining, and that you're in a relationship. Good thing that I found Pacific Acupuncture with these 2 amazing acupuncturist Mike and Mia! Though the needles are a bit scary at first, u get used to it. I'm even able to sleep and relax in the room. With Mia's attentiveness and herbal remedy, my period now last about a week (I'll take that over 2-3 weeks!), and hopefully get my hormones back to normal. It doesn't mean that the fibroid will go down or anything, but if it gets my estrogen back to normal and period to last less than a week til I get my operation, then Mia has definitely helped me and I'm thankful! Mia and Mike are excellent and I am so glad I found them. After a shoulder injury I had chronic pain and instability. For over 1 yr I had 2 MRIs, 2 joint injections, PT which initially helped but then worsened it. My Ortho finally suggested acupuncture. I was a little skeptical at first but after 4 weekly sessions I noticed I could sleep on that side again, hold things and do my normal activities without horrible pain. Then I just went back for tune ups when the muscles tightened back up. The treatments were during the end of my pregnancy and they made adjustments along the way. I just ran across a negative review about Mia and her use of the electrical stimulator, saying it it was unsafe. Nothing could be further from the truth! I have been going to Mia and Mike for well over seven years and that stimulator is very beneficial. After an automobile accident where my legs were VERY severely damaged, that machine has been used and I can now walk. When that stimulator has been used on my legs, she has been VERY cautious to see that not too much sensation is given. Mia and Mike take GREAT pride in their work and know what they are doing. I was suffering from what may have been a pinched nerve. I had a terrible knot in my upper left shoulder. This was my first time trying acupuncture. After I left a message on their voicemail, I was called back promptly. I was able to schedule the same day. I was greeted by both the male and female personnel working there. I don't recall their names but they were professional and friendly. They put me at ease and explain what they were going to do. Once my acupuncture session was finished I received a quick massage with some type of lotion that may have had some menthol Properties in it as it felt cool and relaxing. The treatment room was private, overlooking the ocean actually. Parking is in the back. I was given a super bill to send to my insurance company which I appreciated. Reasonably priced. The surgeons couldn't fix my lower back problems, nor the physical therapy MDs, nor the pain management MDs and their drugs, but Mia and Mike (the owners) listened carefully, even did research on their own, instituted an innovative program, and within months I was improved to the point I could undertake sports activities I'd had to quit, and cut back on the meds. This place is fantastic! They saved my way life, not exaggerating. When I first went in to see Mia I had been diagnosed with Occipital Neuralgia, which can lead to blindness if not treated. I was on a daily high dose of an anti-inflammatory, muscle relaxer, and vicodin, none of which did anything but take the edge off my pain. I was also being treated with neural numbing agents by way of injection. The nerves in my head were so sensitive I could barely tolerate any touch at all. The next steps presented to me by my doctor were radiation treatment to kill the nerves (IN MY HEAD!) or steroidal injections (IN MY HEAD!) After my objections it was suggested I try acupuncture, which I was not excited about to be honest, but at that point I was ready to try anything. Within one month of treatments twice a week I was off all the meds. I honestly couldn't believe it. I had been a drugged up zombie for over 8 months, and acupuncture freed me. My treatment was not an overnight success, because it isn't a pill or magic, it's natural medicine. The side effects? A wonderful, peaceful feeling, haha. I never sleep as well as I do after a treatment. I often compare the feeling to when you wake up naturally (no alarm clock) after the perfect amount of sleep, it's just kind of a magical feeling. I have had to continue treatment because my situation is incurable, but I now only see Mia every few weeks which I highly prefer to taking meds everyday. I have also had her treat the chronic bursitis I have in my shoulder, which again will never be healed, and isn't treated in one day. BUT when it really flares up a few treatments from her (cupping, whoo hoo!) makes it so I don't have to take Motrin for weeks and go get another cortisone shot. Much preferred in my book. Mia is amazing at what she does and her personality is great. I often miss her when my treatments are so spread out. She really cares about her patients and makes sure that she really knows what is going on with you so she can help you in the best way possible.
