First of all, I love that they are within walking distance if I felt up to walking! Also, the place is always very clean and neat and the staff are always very friendly and helpful. I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes before being taken to a room and I am usually seen by the nurse and/or doctor within 15 minutes. None of us like being sick or slightly injured but it's great to have a place so close to home that has staff that cares about your health and does what they can and you don't have to wait in long lines like some other UC places. The only thing I wish they had was an EKG machine because the one time I felt like I needed my heart to be checked, they didn't have one so referred me to ER but it's great that they can do X-rays.

When I called to make an appointment with Identity Medical Group, I felt comfortable and the appointment date was within a month, so I decided to move forward and book the new patient exam. Dr. Robert (Bob) Dodge's office is located in the 5-story building across the street from Community Memorial Hospital in mid-town Ventura. There is a 3 story parking structure below the building that offers free parking. Dr. Dodge's office is located in unit 502. There's 2 doors then enter into the same building. So here we are on the day of my new patient exam, 2/29/15 @1000. I arrive at 0950 and sign onto a sheet. At the front desk sat, Rosie-one of the receptionist who didn't seem warm and welcoming. After about 10 minutes Nicole, registered me into the system and collected my co-pay. Within 5 minutes I was called back by Hannah, who I'm assuming is the MA, proceeded in taking my temp, weight and vitals-she also performed pre-appt questions to get a better gage for my visit. She then walked me to the exam room where I waited another 5-10 minutes for Dr. Dodge. My first impression of Dr. Dodge is that he is very warm-welcoming. He has great energy and displays true passionate, concern about your care. He actively listens as you voice your concerns and reiterates back to you. I like that he was consistent in asking if I had any questions, to make sure I understood his recommendations. The overall physical/assessment appointment was about 30 minutes, and then I was done. I would recommend Dr. Dodge to anyone looking for a new primary care physician. I'm happy to have finally found a primary care physician that actually cares and who is quite knowledgeable.

Today's referral, the office gave me an address in San Diego, then in Ventura and I found it in Oxnard but I wouldn't tell her her job! Maybe Shawn needs to check on the quality of her underlings and training they receive. Maybe someone should check on Shawn. The female couldn't pronounce the specialist field of practice either. During the first 10 months, it felt like a revolving door, as each doctor I had an encounter with abruptly exited to work elsewhere. Fast forward to 2026: I've had the same primary care physician (a D.O.) for over 9 years. This D.O. pays attention--doesn't habitually deflect and bypass or interrupt. But getting on the calendar for a follow-up to test results or other scheduling is even harder this year than last year: months, not weeks, stuck in the queue. That 'business model' may be typical for the broader medical industry in California though. I got lucky in 2023 with the new Physician's Assistant available on short-notice for requisite per-surgical screening. The staff support team seems solid at this clinic and I'm glad this convenient neighborhood location has not relocated, as I can even walk or bicycle to get there. Recently, I was able to get a recommended blood panel started there. Thus, no need for a separate trip to CMH hospital or Quest or another lab site. Kudos.
