It was built by a former artist for Disney Studios and the builder, Lawrence Joseph worked on all of it for decades. There are adorable cottages and a view from the street is super. I think some of it may be occupied, I am not sure, so I did not venture far, just the front and back yard and stopped when I saw what looked like an apartment building. It is an LA Historical Landmark and just so cute. It is near Sony pictures. It almost looks like you are walking into a movie set. There is a great garden and a pond and it really does look like a Hobbit house. We were not there long, maybe 15 minutes and did not need to be. So, if you have 15 minutes and want to see a super cool house go take a peek.

The structures were designed and built by Lawrence Joseph, a former artist for Walt Disney Studios, starting in the 1940s and continuing construction for decades. Now surrounded by high rises it is difficult to land a parking spot but worth it to get a closer look. For a moment imagine yourself on a walk through emerald green grass & fields of wildflowers. People started camping out over an hour before the showed started with beach towels and blankets to claim their piece of real estate near the action. Many came with their picnic baskets along with a wide variety of food items. A large bar area is setup that sells beer and wine. The atmosphere is upbeat and vibrant. Tip: Line is long and the bar closes promptly at 8:30PM. Both cash and credit cards are accepted. The live music started promptly at 7:15pm, the advertised show time. Tonight's (8/24/13) band is La Santa Cecilia, a local band in Los Angeles. They performed upbeat dance-friendly tunes in both Spanish and English. The performance is cool and the crowd is enjoying it. There is a huge presence of security, almost to the extent of being intrusive. There are security guards everywhere and you are not allowed to stand in many places. There are walkways that you are not allowed to stand and take a picture and you have to keep moving. The security is excessive in what is mostly a family-oriented event inside the complex of a museum. We were in the Montreal Rock Festival just recently which is about 100 times the size of this event and we didn't see this kind of security presence. Overall it was an above-average experience, and we attended the event since we were there in the museum already. However, we probably won't drive up there just for this event.

It's actually in LA County believe it or not, especially since it's before cities like Calabasas, Agoura Hills and Malibu and has grown and evolved with time and been super well preserved. Purchased by local resident Rick Denman in the late 90s and blossoming ever since... The GW of Topanga is about half walf up from a starting point at Ventura Blvd/ Topanga Cyn in Woodland Hills up the adventurous cruise up. Rick has filled this wall not with just his own work but other locals as well. It's a collection of so many abstract pieces, trinkets, toys, statues, tools and surprising yet fun items, because as we all know... Art is everywhere and whatever you make it. Most people take Topanga on their way to the Pacific Coast Highway from the valley side, as well as various destinations like Inn at the Seventh Ray (a personal fav other than the coastline or Malibu or Santa Monica) and get to take in this wall of local flavor which is most visible during the day and with light. Definitely gotta pull over next time I'm up. Last picture I took I was in the passenger side and we were going to quick.

Not as many homes were lit up in 2025, whereas ALL homes were not only lit up but super decorated back then. Plus, I noticed a fair amount of homes either have walls or shrubs blocking the street views, and it just wasn't amazing as I recall from my youth. There were a few really cool homes, but only a few. There was one that I REALLY liked, but I couldn't capture a good picture of it, but that's on me. The rest were just okay.

Some were decked out in their own unique way--some super extravagant with lights and themed displays, while others keep it simple and sweet, or some don't do anything at all. For a while, the streets give off cozy holiday vibes as you stroll through, though the experience can get a little tricky since there are so many cars passing by with their headlights and bright lights shining right in your face. One house went way above and beyond by setting up a hot chocolate stand and even offering to take photos of families on their sleigh display out in their front yard. How cool is that! Another house had a history display about the history of Candy Cane Lane (dating back to 1951!), which was super eye-opening and made me appreciate the tradition even more. It's incredible that so many homes still participate in it despite all the challenges--busy traffic, LA County, trash, and even pop-up illegal vendors (you see several set up shop). However, you can feel a sense of community here. I especially can't help but applaud the efforts of the homes that take the time to bring this tradition to life. That said, I think this is only really worth it if you're in the area or passing by. If you're more than 30 minutes away, it will be underwhelming because not every house is fully decorated. Either way, my girlfriend and I were thrilled to have a quick holiday experience on a weekday night. We also brought our dog along and other dogs were also walking around too. Once it got darker in certain areas of the street, we decided to wrap it up and head out. Still, it was a lovely experience, and if you have 30 mins to spare, I'd definitely recommend checking it out even for a drive with Christmas music blasting!

I'd recommend starting to look for street parking once you're about three minutes away. There is parking nearby, but you'll most likely have to pay for a lot or structure. I came here with my friends on a weekend, and it was very crowded. There are tons of restaurants along the pier and surrounding area, plus a lot of seagulls and pigeons everywhere. The pier itself has so much going on -- vendors selling little souvenirs like magnets, lots of people walking around, and overall just a very lively atmosphere. The weather was absolutely beautiful when we went -- super sunny and bright -- which made the experience even better. While it does get crowded and some areas feel a bit tight, that's kind of part of the charm. There's always something happening, and it feels energetic and exciting. The pier is very walkable, so I'd definitely recommend wearing comfortable shoes since you'll probably be walking around for a while. One thing to note though: even if it's sunny during the day, it can get pretty chilly, especially with the ocean breeze, so make sure to bring a jacket. Overall, I'd highly recommend stopping by on a busy weekend if you want that lively, classic pier experience. It's crowded, but it's beautiful and full of energy.
