I grew up in this area during the 60s and 70s, and what I remember from "back in the day" to what I saw in 2025, well, it's a world of difference. Not as many homes were lit up in 2025, whereas ALL homes were not only lit up but super decorated back then. Plus, I noticed a fair amount of homes either have walls or shrubs blocking the street views, and it just wasn't amazing as I recall from my youth. There were a few really cool homes, but only a few. At first we walked through the neighborhood of Candy Cane Lane and took in all the holiday charm some houses offered!! Some were decked out in their own unique way--some super extravagant with lights and themed displays, while others keep it simple and sweet, or some don't do anything at all. For a while, the streets give off cozy holiday vibes as you stroll through, though the experience can get a little tricky since there are so many cars passing by with their headlights and bright lights shining right in your face. One house went way above and beyond by setting up a hot chocolate stand and even offering to take photos of families on their sleigh display out in their front yard. How cool is that! Another house had a history display about the history of Candy Cane Lane (dating back to 1951!), which was super eye-opening and made me appreciate the tradition even more. It's incredible that so many homes still participate in it despite all the challenges--busy traffic, LA County, trash, and even pop-up illegal vendors (you see several set up shop). However, you can feel a sense of community here. I especially can't help but applaud the efforts of the homes that take the time to bring this tradition to life. That said, I think this is only really worth it if you're in the area or passing by. If you're more than 30 minutes away, it will be underwhelming because not every house is fully decorated. Either way, my girlfriend and I were thrilled to have a quick holiday experience on a weekday night. We also brought our dog along and other dogs were also walking around too. Once it got darker in certain areas of the street, we decided to wrap it up and head out. Still, it was a lovely experience, and if you have 30 mins to spare, I'd definitely recommend checking it out even for a drive with Christmas music blasting! read more

We made the trip to Candy Cane Lane as first time visitors and while not every house is decorated there's enough lit up that it's still an enjoyable activity. We got there right as it started getting dark and walked around a bit. Keep in mind that this neighborhood is not very walkable. There are no sidewalks. Wear reflective gear if you can and keep your head on a swivel if you choose to walk. For a "free" winter holiday event it's decent. People need to stop complaining about not every house being decorated and be mindful that this is still a neighborhood where people live in. read more

If you live in the center to west San Fernando valley and you'd like to see a decent concentration of Christmas decorations I think this is still worth it. Not every house is decorated, but from the 2 mile stretch that I walked around (tracked it on my gps watch) it was totally worth coming over to check out. I got over here on Oxnard St. from Winnetka Ave. I headed east on Oxnard and saw the signs for Candy Cane Lane. There are a lot of cars checking out the decorations, so we found a side street to park on and just walked around the neighborhood which was a must better experience to me because you got to take better picture of the decorations. The 3 streets I saw with decoration in the neighborhood were Luboa Ave, Oakdale Ave, & Jumilla Ave. There's also a little pop up stand somewhere on Hatteras St. where they're selling hot coco, coffee, and some snacks. read more

Not the same candy cane lane that I remember from my own childhood unfortunately! Wanted to walk with my toddler, but for every 1 house decorated there would be 5 in between that weren't, so way too much walking for not enough light displays. Driving is definitely the way to go, just be prepared to be very slow moving as people stop to look at each display. Depending on the time, it can be better or busier. The earlier the better. It seemed to really pick up after 7. It's probably less busy again after bed times. Next year will have to look for other locations for light displays as candy cane lane disappointed this year. read more

In a nutshell-- it's too spread out as not all homes/streets participate. Also, this is a vintage neighborhood with no sidewalks, so you're walking on the edges of the homes and/or streets. The displays were quite nice, and the street vendors were an added bonus. We enjoyed them and nabbed a lighted balloon for our little one. They took Zelle! If you have lots of time, this is a good place to go for a long walk with your family. Be ready to keep an extra careful eye on your little ones. read more

As one of the residents I would like to say that Candy Cane Lane has become a chore and a burden over the past few years. I'm well aware that there are a good number of residents that dread this time of year. I would say a large majority of those who come to the area are unappreciative of the neighborhood and those who live here. There are people leaving trash outside every house, in the streets, in gutters, and on lawns. There are people drinking alcohol and smoking weed while driving around families and children. People block our houses and driveways, and it feels like we are prisoners in our own homes. There are vendors on every corner taking up space and causing traffic. People are playing obnoxiously loud and inappropriate music from their cars, slamming doors, and yelling until late at night when residents are trying to sleep and relax. This is without mentioning the amount of money it must take to upkeep the decorations and even purchase new ones. Not everyone has the money to go out and buy the big sleighs, festive decorations and animatronics some may remember from the past. This is just my understanding from living through this night-after-night for the last 7 years or so. To complain about the lack of participation and lack of festive cheer is honestly quite ignorant, if you want a big luxurious Christmas display then go to Disneyland or do it yourself. read more

It's a nice experience but highly recommended that you come early enough to not do it a day or the day of Christmas Eve. It's nice to see all the houses that still participate and now they have vendors selling all kinds of yummy snacks. Woodland Hills is known for hot weather in the summer and really most of the year, but when it's Christmas time it is known for Candy Cane Lane (CCL)!! We finally made it on X-mas eve evening. We were all excited especially our 3-year-old. I'd have to say, you do need to come here to visit the OG CCL. I have visited 3 years and my husband many times since he was a young kiddo. So he tells me how great it use to be and how the majority of homes would participate. But, I think it's amazing what the homeowners who do participate do. It's very special in and of itself. I think all the homes added their own touches and charm with a ginormous inflated Santa with Rudolph at one house, a colorful light display of a peace sign on the roof at another home, the full cast of SpongeBob SquarePants on a lawn and many many more to see! I also have to mention that one car that went all out and lit up his car with lights! This is really one of the safest thing to do during this holiday season with omicron circulating. I am really sad to leave this review. I've been wanting to come back here for years. I remember this being one of the best Christmas light experiences in LA, even with the wait of the car line. I built it up so much with my boyfriend, and we made the long journey up the 405 battling rush-hour traffic this year. As we inched our way in the slow line of cars, I kept telling him it was worth the wait. We finally turned down the first street, bring on the lights! The only lights we saw for an entire block was those being sold by vendors. The entire 3 streets there were more vendors than decorated houses. I would say there was maybe 8-10 houses total that were highly decorated. Others had nothing or maybe a cut out or two. I kept saying to my boyfriend how good it used to be. And he would reply, "Look! they left their garage light on for us!" (Sorry I don't have a picture of that). I don't know what happened over the last few years. Maybe the neighborhood doesn't want the traffic anymore, which I could understand. It's definitely not worth braving the 405 for. read more

There are maybe 2-3 well decorated homes. My girlfriend and I wanted to drive through, but it took about 40 minutes of being immobile until we decided to park on another street to walk through. I've been to the Santa Clarita candy cane lane and the one in Beverly Hills and I can confidently say that the Woodland Hills candy cane lane has some catching up to do. I think it's very generous for the homeowners to set up their lights, but I don't think that it's worth the 1-3 hours to see medium lit homes. Grew up going to candy cane lane Woodland Hills ca. I remembered it as, huge designs that were thoughtful. By huge I mean in la in general people work for the film industry and actually make the animatronics and huge figurines that you see in Lowe's and or on famous movie sets. I went to Woodland Hills candy cane lane in 2024 and it was not good. Every house has regular designs and well when I came back over 20 years... it was not mesmerizing... Like at all... it looked like everyone just did whatever and there was no completion for who had the BADDEST HOUSE. Like it USED TO BE. Which is y everyone was SUPER SUPER COMPETITIVE. It looked like a regular neighborhood. Nothing special about it. I could have decorated it. No more big props or floatingSLEIGHS IN MID AIR. No GIANT 20 feet Disney MERMAID ARIEL WITH Xmas hat on .. nothing just regular. Trying el segundo this year. Thank god I didn't pay. We have been going for years and it was once very good. But the last 3 years have been lame BECAUSE people cannot be cool and residents are sick of it. Dissapointed to see it die. We drove about 45 minuets and we're so excited to go this year, stopped for our starbies and hand the Xmas music going just to see a handful of lights that look like every normal house with decorations. Most houses wernt decorated anymore. A handful did just basic lights like you'd see on any regular street. Maybe 4/5 houses went a little above and beyond but nowhere near the displays that were out 5-10+ years ago. Huge bummer. There was a family doing whoville who really tried and sang, and one or two cool nightmare before Xmas displays. All the giant huge light displays are gone though. More street vendors than there were displays. It wasn't that busy but people jumping out of their cars for elote and glow sticks caused most of the traffic as there wasn't a lot to see. This place use to be really great. I have always walked it. This is my experience at 6:00 pm when it starts. The roads are very old and dangerous for anyone with disabilities. There are no sidewalks and many homeowners park in front of their homes making it difficult to see their displays and also dangerous for those walking. Keep in mind those driving may have had cocktails or may be distracted from the festivities. The lights weren't as opulent in years past. I'll be looking for a safer place to walk to see lights. Driving seems ok, but it is very slow moving and the stop signs may create huge delays with the driving coed combined with the pedestrians. Use the garbage cans that are on the streets...people live here and this display is for you, so respect it. read more

The family and I have been coming here for the past 3 years as a Christmas Eve/Christmas tradition but not sure if we will be coming back next year. Sadly not a lot of homes participated this year so it was a little disappointing. And pretty much no new decorations or anything exciting this year. This time around not many houses participated with the lights, there wasn't a sleigh you can take photos on, there wasn't the train with lights, no houses were selling hot chocolate, and not many people were strolling and taking pictures outside the houses. I'd say only about 25% of the houses had lights and of those 25% most of them were laaaaame, just a measly string of lights. Absolutely a total disappointment and a total waste of time. I sure hope the complainers aren't spreading their sense of entitlement to their children (though, it would explain why we encounter so many bratty, entitled children.) There are plenty of decorated homes this year. Plenty! Blocks full of them. For us to enjoy...free of charge. These homeowners pay a fortune to purchase the lights and props, assemble them (not to mention their bills amidst all this). They have their entire neighborhood turn into a block party for weeks. Be grateful. Be happy. Be merry. They do it for us and it's lovely to experience. This year was fabulous. I will say, if you're driving, be courteous and kind. Be patient, as it's a tight space with a lot of foot traffic and vehicle traffic. This isn't the place to honk your horn. I wish more of the reviews posted here had a sense of gratitude. read more

Maybe it is still early this year but it doesn't seem like as many houses are decorated yet. The ones that are decorated are awesome! If you plan to go, plan on being there a while because it tends to get a lot of traffic - especially on the weekends, but put your holiday music on in your car and enjoy the lights! read more
