Since I have been going to her the hair has been coming back very light/thin or there are areas where the hair has not grown back. During one of the sessions I was telling Donna about an issue that I was having with my face. She offered an over the counter face wash recommendation and wow my face has been looking great!! There are a lot of mixed reviews on here. I am here to set the record straight. I purchased 2 half hour sessions on groupon. I called to make an appt., left a voice message and she returned my phone call approximately a week later. I asked her the hours of her establishment and she snapped. "I don't give out my schedule". Uhh I wanted to hang up right there. She was rude. But I thought I'd her the benefit of the doubt. After a tense conversation. We set up a time. There was no debrief on what I should or should not do before the appt. Which come to find out there is some protocol. I showed up on time for my appt and was left waiting 30 minutes in an unattended waiting room. I ventured into one of the other near by vendors rooms and inquired about her after sitting there for a while. They said she would be with me soon with an eye roll.. Donna finally emerged from her room and was a very neurotic older woman who gruffly apologized for being late and said she would be with me soon. If that picture attached to her website is her, it is about 20 years old. 20 minutes later. She finally was ready for me(yep 55 minutes late). That's a long time. She snapped she was sorry she was late, it was rehearsed and I felt that she read all the reviews on here and knew it is an issue for her clients so did an obligatory but insincere apology. We went over the paper work and she snapped at me that I was sun burnt and that I should not be. I said I haven't been in the sun for a while as it was Fall. She said "Oh then you have bad skin". She was just rude and unfriendly. We went in her room and it was dated as was the machine. She told me I had not let the hair grow out so how was she to know what to look for. At this point I just crossed over to the passive side... knowing there is no point for any discussion. I just need to let her do her thing and leave. It was a few hairs on my chin. She zapped them and I left. So 6 weeks later when I called for my second appt. Guess what happened? She never called me back. After a couple of voice mails still no return call. DONT DO IT, SAVE YOURSELF!!!! I don't know about you but my time is valuable and waiting over a half hour after your appointment time is unacceptable, inconsiderate and just plain rude. The worst part is she isn't even apologetic. She's short, rushed and condescending when she speaks. The way you treat people speaks volumes in my opinon. I literally left there crying because I was appalled at the way I was treated. NO ONE SHOULD EVER be treated that way especially when paying for a service. I should have listened to my gut when it took a week to even get an initial response and then two months to book an appointment because her asthma was bad. Hi everyone, I want to share one of the greatest experiences of my life. For several years I had suffered from un-wanted facial hair. I had been using tweezers each and every day and it took up too much time in the morning to get ready for work or any occasion I had googled and found Pacific Permanent Hair Removal, and Met this Wonderful Lady Donna Spears. Donna is an Amazing electrologist! I started coming to her a couple of months ago through a Groupon. My first treatment, I was very nervous, and even though I researched about electrolysis, I didn't know what to expect. Donna was so understanding! She educated me through the treatment process and post treatment care. I've had such great results from her work! I had 12 laser hair removal treatments on my underarms over the last year, but there was still a lot of hair. Donna's treatments have reduced the amount of hair in just a couple of treatments (significantly less than laser!) Donna is incredibly skilled, extremely thorough, conscientious of the time you pay for, and her prices are extremely reasonable! Electrolysis is the only permanent method for hair removal, and I've been extremely happy with my results! Donna does beautiful work, and I trust her skills completely! read more

Extremely rude, not responsible, not punctual person. I purchased a Groupon and made an appointment a month ahead. When I showed up for the appointment on time, Donna came out 20-25 minutes later and told me that we need to reschedule, because she is "swamped with work". I was disappointed (because I needed to arrange a bunch of things to be there), but it is life, It can happen with everyone, I was trying to understand and we re-scheduled. Next time (I again left work early, my husband left work early to pick up our son - everything for that appointment) I was there on time, Donna asked me to wait for 5 minutes. 5 minutes prolonged 35 minutes...Then I knocked and asked how much longer I should wait? She was pissed off that I was dare to ask, because she was "SWAMPED HERE!" Well, after about 10 more minutes of waiting she, eventually, let me in. She let me understand by all her words and behavior that I was not welcomed here, since I was not her regular customer and she did not have time for me. When I was asking questions, instead of answering them as a professional - she asked me back if I was even reading her website. Well, reading websites and talking to the professional is not the same thing and before customers become regular - there is always a first time. Then, she was making comments like "this is pathetic" and "I am wasting my time". She yelled at me when I asked something. I walked out the door all shaking, because no one treated me like this before. This is unacceptable. Still, I was trying to understand and forgive, because we are all humans and sometimes can be not in the mood, even though it is not the reason to humiliate or offend other people. We scheduled next appointment in three weeks. I was thinking whether I should go or not after the way she treated me ( I was ready to lose my money at all, because at that point it wasn't about money, but about a moral side of the story). I decided to come and give her another chance. I thought that she will be at least on time, but miracle did not happen. There was a girl who was already waiting for her for 45 minutes! After 15-20 minutes of waiting Donna came out and suggested me to return the Groupon. She might be a professional in electrolysis, but this person obviously does not know anything about customer service or being polite and on time. read more

Donna has been an amazing electrologist and I'm so lucky that I found her! I came to her from a Groupon because I was in search of a new electrologist in San Diego after moving. Her prices are the most reasonable I've seen ($70/hr and $1/min after the first hour) and she has years of experience behind her that are reflected in her excellent work. To top it off, she's sweet, professional, and flexible! A little background...I've been blessed with beautiful, thick Indian hair from both sides of my family. Unfortunately, this also means that I have excess hair that's black, dense, and coarse in unwanted places, specifically facial hair on my chin, under chin, and sides. I'm not a good candidate for laser since I have a darker complexion, so electrolysis was the only the way to go as a permanent solution. Prior to Donna I had seen two other electrologists. One of them was in North County and the other was in my hometown. I went to the North County electrologist every week for about 4 months and saw slim to almost no results. I went to the electrologist in my hometown while I was visiting in order to keep up with my work. At the time I didn't know what a good electrologist's work looked like. The North County electrologist was very sweet, but was inexperienced. She had only 2-3 years of experience at the time and I think because of my special features (darker skin, coarser hair) I must've been a challenging case, I doubt she had the experience to properly handle it (you can see my full review on the Coastal Electrolysis Yelp page). Same thing with the other electrologist in my hometown. Basically, both turned out to be a waste of my time and money, and would've possibly had permanent skin damage if I had continued too. By contrast, Donna has been amazing. I've been seeing her for more than 6 months now and after about the first 3 months I was already starting to see results -- the hair was coming back finer and less dense. In the beginning I couldn't go a few days without shaving, but it's at the point now where I see her every 2 weeks and I feel comfortable enough with the amount of hair growth that I don't shave between appointments anymore. From my first interactions with her I could tell she had excellent education and expertise about electrolysis and other medical skin conditions above and beyond the other electrologists' knowledge base. She's also fast--we're covering much more area than I did with my previous electrologist (we only had time to tackle my chin during our 1-hr sessions, but with Donna I'm getting my chin, under chin, and sides treated in 1-hr). Donna's also meticulous about keeping things hygienic, even switching out probes multiple times during a session if she feels it's getting dull. She works exactly an hour (she pauses the timer whenever she needs to switch probes or clean). Because of her thoroughness, our appointments are rarely exactly an hour long, so make sure to budget that in. However, if she doesn't have a client after you and you want to get some more work done she's always willing to keep going as long as there's no problems with your skin. Sometimes she is late getting you on the table because her session with the client before you may run over, but she always does her best to not let that happen and will give you your full time. Donna's also been flexible with scheduling. I do my best to never miss an appointment, but there were two instances that I had emergencies arise. She was either able to see me later that day, or rescheduled me for that same week--I very much appreciated that because I didn't want to get off my schedule. I also appreciate the day-before text reminder that she sends and her evening availability (I believe she works Monday, Wednesday, Fridays). She does use an older machine, but don't let that deter you. The truth of the matter is is that the machine doesn't matter--it's the precision and accuracy of the insertions that the electrologist makes that is the difference. In fact, her machine allows her more precision to match my skin and hair needs for that appointment (sometimes my skin is more sensitive than other days) instead of going by a predetermined settings on the newer computer machines. Her office is very nice too and there is attached parking garage, although the entrance is a bit hard to see. All in all, she's a great find--great skill level, efficient, and personable! I do not at all mind driving the 40 miles roundtrip to see her and as a full-time student I really appreciate that I can afford her prices. My time is incredibly valuable to me. I have come for treatment 4 times now and each time is a wait period of 20 minutes or more. The last time I came, I waited 45 minutes and when she finally came out she said she thought I had cancelled. Never did I cancel. She apologized profusely and said she'd get me in on time next time. That next visit, I ended up waiting 20 minutes after knocking on her door at 5 minutes past my appointment time and being told she'd be with me in just 5 minutes. The pricing is good, and the electrolysis does in fact work. If you're willing to be patient and have enough time to sit around and wait, you should definitely go. If you're someone who likes promptness and customer service, you might not want to choose this office. The only reason this is three stars instead of one or two is because the electrolysis did work. read more

I purchased a Groupon and went one time. She made a great first impression, was very well informed about the procedure, which is great! She told me multiple times that she would be faster and less painful than other experiences I have had. Then she actually started, and was apparently having a hard time getting the hair because I use deodorant? I'd never heard about that before, but okay. And apparently I was dehydrated, and that made it hard. That's fine, but she was getting so upset I thought she was going to hit me! The ENTIRE treatment she was muttering about how dehydrated I was , and it was very awkward and uncomfortable. She had said she could do both armpits but she was only able to finish one, (which is fine!) but I could tell she was amping up the electricity on the machine for some reason. When I expressed I was in so much pain I couldn't take it anymore, she implied I was too sensitive (I'm not) and that the other times I've had this done they must have not even had the machine on (also wrong). If you know about hair removal, you have heard about laser and probably about electrolysis. If you dug a little deeper, you know that laser will achieve a moderate success rate on the best patients, that is, those with dark hair and light skin. By all means, try laser hair removal, and when you are frustrated with the results after a year, go to Donna. She'll get you taken care of. The difficulty with electrolysis is that it depends very highly on the practitioner skill. Not only is the effectiveness of the treatments skill dependent, the speed and efficiency also strongly depend on skill. So finding a good electrologist is critical. Having been an electrologist, I am qualified to tell you that Donna's skill is everything you are looking for. She is fast and accurate. She also is extraordinarily attentive to your comfort during the treatment. She knows which areas of the body are more sensitive and is constantly checking whether you are adequately comfortable. And she is concerned about your post treatment response. Finally, she is diligent about not only charging you for the time spent doing the actual treatment, and does not "pad" the time with setup, or anything else for that matter. One time I had to stretch a cramp in my back, and she promptly stopped the timer. That's conscientious. All these add up to a first-rate practitioner. I'd like to address the review by "A.Y." Donna will regularly take extra time to make sure that the treatment is adequate, and as a result, the time often spills over into the next client's slot. In an ideal world, the treatment would be planned to exactly fit into the time slots, but there are simply too many variables. Donna could under-book to compensate, but I would rather have her give me the attention, and I budget about an extra half hour for each session, knowing that the appointment may start late and run late. It sounds like A.Y. had an unfortunate experience, but my experience with Donna's timeliness has been nothing like what A.Y. relates. Furthermore, I have always found her to be nothing but kind and gracious, so I was a little surprised to see negative words about her manner. Lemme tell you this lady knows her stuff! So heres my story, perhaps you know it...I had this wonderful gift given to me (besides my beautiful daughter after her birth), newfound random facial hair cropping up and surprising me i'd never had before, just wonderful! So I tried laser for the full cycle even did it twice and gave it as a gift to a friend, after having tried shaving plucking depiling waxing a few elyctrolysis treatments, in another city, but none of it lasted and all of it seemed to return with a vengence! I really just felt quite ugly and hid my chin and neck with makeup, and had no confidence I could ever lose the scarring that had come of all the plucking id done to my face dispite the dr visits, fade creams and money i'd spent all those years hoping something miraculous would come to just make it all go away! Well somewhere here on yelp I found Donna! Donna recognized all the things I had done to my skin, I took everything she said to heart did it all to the letter and all the hair and scarring is gone! You hear me, GONE. I'm sure as others go to laser believing it will do the trick, you will probably find yourself going several times before you realize, nothing will eliminate thick or corse hair faster or more permanently than electrolysis. If I could give her a NEGATIVE star I would give her 5 NEGATIVE STARS! Really unprofessional! She tells you to arrive early and she arrives 30 min late. Then complains about how her boyfriend got her to utilize Groupon which she detests and treats you accordingly for purchasing it. To top it all off, she's unsterile as she picks up her cell phone in the middle of treatment without changing gloves or washing! And when you request for bikini area, she further scowls and tells you she's not in the mood to do that area for that day...Seriously, I would not go to her if she's the last person on earth to do hair removal...I had two more groupon treatments left to redeem with her but refuse to be treated unprofessionally rude and would rather LOSE the $200 than go back to her...
