This is a very long overdue review for Captain Chuck White. Pacific Venture Charter Services, while apparently an amazing fishing charter service, is also an amazing burial at sea service. On September 22, 2024, myself and my father, wife, daughter, and son-in-law had the privilege of being assisted by Captain White to bury my mother at sea. It wasn't looking likely we'd get out on the water. For the first time in decades of family gatherings, we'd flaked on scheduling a fishing trip, it was late December, and nobody had room for the five of us. Until Chuck called me back, last minute. "I just got a cancellation -- you still up for fishing?" To be clear, the adventure didn't measure up to some of the more impressive charters I've enjoyed, but it wasn't the time of year where bigger fish, like tuna, were abundant. Chuck said we'd be hunting for Sheepshead and Rockfish (not to be confused with east coast Rockfish), as we headed out we saw plenty of fat and happy seals, dolphin dropped by to say hello, and my kid stood up top with Chuck, peppering him with questions about his tales from the seas, of which he had many, including a gray whale epic that blew me away. In the end, our lines generally popped with activity, and I never mellowed over that genuine intrigue about deep sea fishing, the "I wonder what's on the end of my line" anticipation as I reeled up a catch. For those of you who wonder how to cook Sheepshead -- it's a rubbery, almost Cod-like fillet -- check the interwebs for crab cake recipes. It took plenty of bread crumbs and more than a little sriracha, but in the end we had winner winner fishin' dinner. read more

We did a 5 hour fishing charter that was fabulous. Captain Chuck White & his deck hand Allen treated our group of 5 to a memorable experience. Catching 19 fish also helped. I'd recommend this service to everyone! read more

I loved being a tour guide! It takes a certain demeanor and caring to host people as they discover thier tourist destination. Sometimes we get to be the tourist and enjoy our own home town. We launch our SuPs (stand up paddle boards) at a particular place but today some debris (possibly toxic) was in our normal launch zone so we went to the end of the pier. No vessel was in sight but before we could get in the water Captain White owner of Pacific Venture Chater Chater appeared. His hostel and rude behavior was disturbing. He yelled about signs. (That were posted on the opposite side of the posts which we could not see). We don't mind being corrected and informed. We do mind being berated. We are in a world that is devastated by unfettered hostility. I called Captain white to explain our situation to no avail. He let me have it again! I don't know anything about this man except he is hostile and unreasonable. We have had good experiences with Oceanside Boat Rentals and the suggested Oceanside Adventures for charters. read more

Took a Charter with Pacific Venture today. There were 4 adults and my 11 y/o son. We had a great time! Chuck and Jerry were great and got us right on the fish. We were catching Rock Cod like crazy. Everyone caught fish and my son was so happy he caught the most. Both guides were very attentive and gave good instruction. We trolled for shark but only got a quick hit (no fault of anyone just luck of the draw). Saw many many dolphins, sun fish, pelicans, sting rays and sea birds. Overall a great day! Boat was clean and love the large deck area. Will book again if we are back in San Diego area. read more

6 ladies took captain chuck and his Pacific venture boat out for a 7 hour fishing trip which was not long enough. The boat is clean and comfortable. Chuck is an amazing individual and his Deck hand is fabulous. We trawled. Fished and chased a pod of dolphins for a cool experience. I would recommend this trip for anyone who wants a safe, clean fun experience. We took all our own delicious food and cocktails and the sunset was spectacular. All in all a really great way to spend the day and we will be having a fish taco party to celebrate. read more

From the very first telephone contact with Captain Chuck, we felt we had a real winner for our family fishing trip last month. He chatted with us before the trip about our group and made wonderful accommodations for 80-year old parents who love to fish but are dealing with some health and mobility issues. The boat was comfortable, cozy and easy to maneuver both inside and out. Captain Chuck selected great fishing spots, and generously moved to a different "fishing hole" when needed. He really knows his craft, and we learned a lot about the fish we were catching as well as the dolphins, seal lions and other ocean life that we spotted along the way. I just went on a Sunset fishing trip on this 6 passenger charter boat. The occasion was a birthday and the guest 6 ladies in their mid to late 30's. OK OK and 1 in her 40's . What an amazing time. We brought our own snacks ( they do provide chips and waters) and we brought some wine. The Captain Chuck was fantastic. Very fun and very experienced. We caught a ton of fish not so many lobsters but the 4 hours went by in the blink of an eye. The boat was spotless and very well maintained. The deckhand was wonderful and all the time we felt very attended to and never needed anything except more time. I would highly recommend this boat and will definitely charter with them again. read more
