    - Compassionate care when we needed it most…read more After a terrible experience at Horizon Veterinary Services in Ventura, where Dr. Franziska A. Degen, DVM immediately suggested euthanizing my dog without even knowing what was wrong with her, I brought Canela to Fillmore Animal Hospital -- and everything changed. Dr. Snyder, Mayra, Tina, Terry, and the entire team treated Canela with so much love, patience, and genuine care. They didn't rush to conclusions. They took the time to examine her, gave her the care she needed, and treated both of us with compassion and respect. Even though Canela is still not fully recovered -- she continues to have difficulty breathing -- she's now eating, going to the bathroom, and standing up on her own. It's not a full recovery yet, but there's progress, and most importantly, there's hope. They even cleaned her eyes and her little body, and when I picked her up, she was being gently carried in a pet sling -- calm, comfortable, and clearly loved. That small act meant so much to me and showed how much they truly care. I'm beyond grateful to Dr. Snyder, Mayra, Tina, Terry, and everyone at Fillmore Animal Hospital. Thank you for giving Canela the chance she deserved, and for standing by us during such a difficult time. If you love your pet and want them to be treated with kindness, dignity, and real care -- this is the place to go.

However- when we got home- we had a bill from the county animal services that we needed to register our dog or be fined. This vet office essentially "turned us in". But it was actually inaccurate. Our dog was already registered. It was a total headache, in the end, getting cleared on this, though. A lot of administrative red tape, emails & phone calls. Total confusion. Not worth it. Maybe we should have cleared this up at the office instead of behind our backs? Weird. I won't go back there now.

This is not my first review of our beloved Dr G, and I just recommended her to 6 more people again just these past 2 weeks. I always say to people I give her card to: "you will discover she is an Earth Angel - if she moved to a different town, I'd take my pup there... When you find a great vet, they are Gold! She's not only compassionate, present and knowledgeable, but also she does not oversell." Besides all the regular check ups, Dr G. has performed 2 substantial surgeries on my pup in the last 8 years here at Paws & Claws; she has been extremely kind, providing valuable reassuring step-by-step updates throughout, especially aware that I had lost my beloved first dog, (with a different vet), when he did not make it through the anesthesia... In the 8 years Dr G. has been our one and only vet; everyone I have sent to Dr G. has fallen in love with her, and has thanked me for the referral. I found her many years ago when I was dissatisfied with a busy veterinary front desk in Sherman Oaks, after they had made errors in my first dog's chart. Unfortunately he passed, and I learned that finding the RIGHT professional truly makes ALL the difference. So yes, I still drive from Sherman Oaks. Gratefully so :) I am thankful that my cherished pups are her patients. Her ethics, her care, her kindness, her knowledge, her integrity - she's our number 1!!!

A few weeks later, the cat passed, and we received a handwritten letter with condolences from the entire staff. We were bowled over. Talk about going the extra mile. My vet recommended my dog get his teeth professionally cleaned, so I brought my good boy here…read more First of all, the location is pretty easy to miss. It's not located right on Main Street, but right before you hit Main Street, depending on what direction you're coming from. The parking lot is small, but I could find parking easily. Appointments are scheduled weeks out; therefore, arrive on time to avoid losing your spot! A family came late with their two dogs, and Smiling Canines tried to squeeze them between other dogs' appointment times, but it was a hassle for both the family and business. After I filled out and signed some paperwork, the staff immediately took my little dog in to have his teeth cleaned. The whole appointment lasted maybe 30 minutes. They also have a small store pet you can look in while you wait for your dog; otherwise, you can stay in your car or sit in a chair outside. The lady who greeted me was kind, professional, and efficient. The prices are around $185 - $250, depending on what type of cleaning your dog needs. Unfortunately, I paid $250 because I had not kept on my dog's teeth, and he had a lot of tartar buildup. So he will need to come back in another six months for another cleaning, and my good boy deserves the best. Thank you, Smiling Canines, for vastly improving my dog's teeth - and breath!

And he was his usual happy self afterwards. Cost was $250 - major inflation! The last time we had his teeth cleaned by them a couple years ago, (went to a couple others in between) it was only $150 I think?. Our pup has terrible plaque issues so we did have him get the anesthesia cleaning, at his vet in 2024 and he needed 9 teeth pulled. :o\ They too (our vet) recommend Smiling Canines! I highly recommend!!

My cat was injured by the groomer, Aidan, and when we let the management know about this they accused us of lying and refused to make it right with a refund. They offered to come back and groom him again which we declined, we'd never opt for them to interact with our pet again after they inflicted an injury on him. The lack of professionalism and respect from this business is appalling to say the least and we're so upset that our cat had to suffer, and that they were unwilling to make it right. As a business owner myself I can't imagine ever interacting with customers this way and having no sympathy or sense of responsibility for the pets they work on. During the treatment I went to check on them in the van and saw the groomer sitting on his phone while my cat roamed around in the van trying to escape. Once he saw me he got up and started to work on my cat. When he brought him back, his back was cut up and inflamed, a sign of obvious rough brushing and deshedding which only got worse the second day. My cat is still flinching to the touch on his back. I would not recommend this business and hope they reevaluate the industry they're in and their values when it comes to animal safety.

Gave a complimentary teeth cleaning in substitute for red not being happy about having his nails removed. Personally,…read moreI do agree with the other review who mentioned that they didn't feel she felt empathy or compassion, and seemed quick to administer all medications. She seemed annoyed and in a hurry. She was late, so maybe she was in a hurry, so she wouldn't be late to the next appointment. If you're looking for a vet to come and be a vet and administer medications, you may be a good fit. If you're looking for a more compassionate experience, you may not be. One thing I had a major problem with was her decision to administer an oral sedative. I watched the video on her website to know what to expect. My experience was not like that video. I didn't even know an oral sedative was an option. She said she was going to inspect the patient to see what type would be best. I told her not oral. He hated oral medications. I didn't want his last moment to be forced to do something he hates. She insisted because supposedly the injection would cause pain. I should have insisted. Because my poor boy was so weak, he was out as soon as she administered the medication. His last moment was her forcing that nasty medication into his mouth, and then he was just... gone. I thought I would at least have a minute or two while the sedative was talking effect, to say goodbye. But, no. I obviously have no proof, but I felt like she did that because the oral would take effect quicker than the injection. I had a feeling the night before and morning of that I should cancel and look for someone else to come later that day, or the next day. I should have followed my gut. I wish I paid her $450 to cancel on the spot, as soon as I felt the energy was off. One reason I chose her is because I like the crematorium she partners with, and what they offer. However, when I called them, they said her pick ups are Tuesday and Friday. So, my cat being euthanized on a Tuesday would be sitting in her morgue until Friday, when they pick him up. Then, I would be able to do a viewing and "next day" cremation Monday. I couldn't bare the thought of my boy laying in a morgue all week. I opted to take him in myself. The second she told me she had a body bag for him, that she would carry him out in, I knew my decision was the right one. I took him myself that day, had a viewing for him the next day, and paid for same day cremation. Also, one reason I chose her was because of the clay paw print. But, I think it looks terrible. I am glad I opted for in home euthanasia. I would personally not use Dr Watson again. However, she may be a good fit for you
