This was the most empathetic veterinary group I've ever had the pleasure of going to. We had to assess our Charlie for quality of life and Dr. Slaton was very sensitive and caring and confirmed our decision to make a difficult choice. In addition, he and his staff made our decision easier. The things that they did were very loving including allowing us time with Charlie and allowing him to have a Hersheys kiss before he passed. We spent some time after he passed and left after they had taken Charlie away. In the days that followed we received flowers and a sympathy card from their office. When we picked up Charlie's remains they were presented in a beautiful box along with a lovely paw print. Slaton veterinary made a very difficult time a thoughtful and caring time. I highly recommend their services.

I am disappointed by this response because it does not address the substance of my review and…read moreinstead seems to frame my concerns as the understandable distress of someone whose dog is facing serious medical problems. That is not what this is about. I have three Golden Retrievers and have had many dogs over the years. I understand that dogs age, become ill, and develop serious medical problems. That is a painful but inevitable part of loving them. I do not blame a veterinarian because my dog is sick. My concern is the care Emma received when I brought her in because she was sick and in pain. I brought her in twice for an unexplained limp and expressed that I believed something was wrong. No X-rays were taken. Imaging performed elsewhere later showed severe destruction of the ulna near her elbow and significant risk of fracture. I also raised concerns about persistent skin inflammation, recurring ear problems, and irritation around her mouth. These issues improved rapidly after she received different treatment from another veterinarian. These are specific concerns about clinical decisions, not expressions of sadness about having an older dog. Saying that you understand how upsetting it is when a beloved companion has serious medical issues does not address them. I also find it difficult to reconcile the statement that the practice would "welcome the opportunity to discuss" my concerns directly with the fact that no one contacted me after my review was posted. Weeks passed, and this public response was the first outreach I received. If anything in my review is factually inaccurate, please identify it. I would also welcome an explanation of how the specific care decisions I described were consistent with the "thoughtful, evidence-based medicine" referenced in your response. Emma being sick is not the complaint. The complaint is what happened when I repeatedly brought a sick and painful dog to this practice for help. Go to Village Veterinary Hospital Dr. Innes is incredible. It's on Hampshire in Westlake Village. Trust me. You're welcome.

The Pet Hospital of Thousand Oaks - Dr. Siegel and Charlie

Dr.Siegal and his entire team are some of the most caring, efficient, safe and dependable people…read morewe've ever met. They are remarkable communicators, and I love that they do not try to up sell you. They respect your boundaries and financial health, they never try to push or guilt trip you. Best of all, they do not tell you wildly outrageous ideas on what might be the cause of x, y, z. Every time we have met with Dr. Seigal whether it is in person or over the phone, we've always felt he was such a generous, gracious person. We never felt rushed. When I ask his staff a question and they don't know the answer, they are always honest and polite and will tell you they don't know and will proceed to place you on a brief hold so they can get the correct information. The staff has a good attitude and assume that you are a caring owner. When Dr. Siegal says he'll call you or do anything, he always holds his word and he even called us when he was out of town. The facility is extremely clean, the cleanest vet I've ever been to. There are so many reasons why you should consider Dr. Siegal and his team, these are just a few. Plenty of parking in their private shared lot and street parking. Very cute stores, restaurants, and fitness yoga studios nearby so if you are coming from further away and need to leave your pet for a few hours you can totally patronize some of the other local businesses. Overall 10/10 experience. I'm glad we took a chance on this vet. To be fair we had exhausted many of the other highly rated vets in the San Fernando valley area and none of them cut it. Are you paying a little more to see the doctor here and get the tests and other services? Yes, probably a little more. However, for me personally, it's completely justified because of the integrity and seamless experiences we've had. Lastly, every single time we have gone in for our appointment, we haven't had to wait longer than 5 minutes. Also they are always giving you a warm greeting which I literally cannot say about any of the other vets. Last little detail, but really there's no detail too small, I have not seen any of the staff doom scroll or look checked out. When they are on the clock, they appear to be working and they seem dedicated. Little things like that have a major impact on professionalism and trust. If I see anyone on the clock doom scrolling or just super engaged on their cell phone it is 100% a red flag and a sign that they don't care, aka my sign to leave a business and not return. I want to spend my hard earned money on places that are invested and care. Dr. Siegal and his staff seem happy and I believe a happy staff is a more efficient staff. It is a safe space, you can openly share your concerns, wants and needs- they are listening with open hearts and they genuinely care. Sadly I've been to probably more than eight different vets and none of them have even come close to Dr. Siegal. Because of those awful experiences, I was starting to lose hope. But I knew from our first phone call with Dr. Siegal's office, when I was literally picking their brain and asking 20+ questions and complaining about past experiences, I knew they were the one because they never made me feel rushed, I never felt judged, I never felt unappreciated and I felt they were truly listening and caring. Anyways, I'm just extremely grateful for Dr.Siegal and his staff.

Dr. Siegel and his entire staff couldn't have been more compassionate and gentler with our beloved. I wish I could give this business zero stars…read more My experience with Dr. Jamshid Kiumarsi at Townsgate Pet Hospital was extremely disappointing. I took my 15-year, 8-month-old dog "Champ" to the clinic for a rabies antibody (titer) test required for international travel. Dr. Kiumarsi knew my dog's age and medical history, yet no one explained that, because of his advanced age, there was a possibility his antibody level might be too low to pass the test or discussed giving him a rabies booster before performing the expensive titer test. I paid nearly $600 for the test, and the result came back negative. Only afterward was I told to bring my dog back for a rabies booster, wait another month, and then pay for a second titer test. This delayed my travel plans to Turkey by almost four weeks and increased my expenses. My frustration is not that the test was negative--it is that I was never informed beforehand about the risk of a failed result or the option of administering a booster first. Had I been given that information, I could have made an informed decision and potentially avoided unnecessary cost and delay. I expected honest guidance and recommendations that considered both my dog's wellbeing and my time and financial investment. Unfortunately, that was not my experience at Townsgate Pet Hospital. I had to fill out some additional paperwork after arriving and then waited for a room. They are a smaller pet hospital, so it was pretty low and under-staffed. This means we waited about another 20 minutes to be seen by the doctor, which can be difficult if your pet is impatient and/ or in pain. Dr. K was really nice, though, and addressed our issue and any concerns, giving us an expectant time frame for recovery and what to see over the next couple of weeks. It took about 10 minutes or so to check out due to the amount of people there, which were only a few, and only one receptionist. With that in mind, they were fast for a smaller team, so I would just have a little more patience coming here; but then again, a lot of vets and pet hospitals have long wait times. The prices weren't bad and their exam fee was around $70 for the doctor to diagnose, which is pricy, but pretty average pricing in Westlake Village. The medicine was expensive (as always) BUT I didn't break the bank - which was a nice change. I will most likely be coming back here with my pup the next time we need something!

My wife brought our dog, Keziah, in because she was lethargic and not feeling well. Shortly after arriving, the veterinarian appeared more focused on my wife's ring and purse than on our dog. They took poor-quality, blurry X-rays immediately after Keziah had eaten and then abruptly told my wife: "She has an obstruction and needs emergency surgery immediately or she will die." They quoted $10,000 for the surgery. My wife was understandably terrified and called me in a panic. I told her we needed to pause and pray and trust God, because this did not make sense. A second doctor then entered the room and spoke to my wife in a condescending and dismissive tone, stating: "Not everyone can afford $10,000, and we don't look at you differently." This was said without compassion and felt completely inappropriate. They then pressured my wife into signing a liability release, stating that we were "going against doctor's orders," essentially attempting to shield themselves legally while continuing to pressure us. After this, they suddenly called and said they had another doctor who could do the same surgery for $3,500. When we declined, we were told that if we couldn't afford it, we "should have just gone somewhere in Simi," as if where you live--or the color of your skin--defines your worth or financial standing. My wife also felt deeply uncomfortable by how staff gawked at our mixed-race children, which only added to the distress and sense of bias during this visit. Even after my wife left, they called again and repeated the $3,500 surgery offer. We trusted God and took Keziah to American Veterinary Hospital in Simi Valley, where we actually live. That veterinarian laughed at the X-rays, explaining they were blurry and showed no obstruction whatsoever. Using the same type of equipment, they took clear X-rays, monitored her overnight, and diagnosed the real issue: an allergic reaction to her food. Total cost: $1,500, including overnight care, diagnostics, and treatment. No surgery. No scare tactics. No pressure. Keziah is now back to her happy, playful self. What we experienced at Conejo Valley Veterinary Hospital felt like fear-based upselling, coercion, and deeply inappropriate assumptions. There is no place for racism, classism, or predatory medical practices in veterinary care. Pet owners deserve honesty, clarity, and compassion--not panic and pressure.
