The hotel recommended this place so we went. There is a good vibe, families celebrating together, romantic dinners, nice bar area. It was busy (good sign) so it took a few minutes to be seated. There is a unique bread grilling experience. 6 different types of bread 4 different types of butters... garlic, original, pesto, tomato. Once those selections have been made you place your bread on a grill and cook it up just they way you like it. The plates coming out looked wonderful. The portions were very large. Definitely ask for a take home box right away. I had the spaghetti with sausage instead of meatball. Hubby had chicken Parmesan. We both truly loved our meals. If you are near the airport in Calgary look this place up!

It is not often I give a place 1 star but my food was not edible. I ordered the gluten free bolognese. It tastes like chef boyardee out the can. Absolutely horrible. I even made others in my party taste it and they all agreed. My husband ordered the gluten free carbonara and rated it 2/5. Our friend ordered the regular carbonara and added grilled chicken 2/5. Both of the guys said the food tasted "cheap". Poor quality, poor ingredients. I would rather drive into the city than the convenience of walking downstairs at the hotel to eat.

This restaurant was convenient as it was located right next to our hotel for the night. Just a short walk away, we figured it would be suffice for dinner before an early night. We got there in time for happy hour as advertised by the hotel. Strangely, we were not given the happy hour menu. We had to ask our waitress for it , who checked her watch, confirmed it was and brought it to us. The moment we ordered, the menu was promptly taken away. We noticed that subsequent tables were not provided the happy hour menu either. Why have a happy hour when you don't want people to use it? We ordered drinks and the half flat bread with meatballs off the happy hour menu. A couple bucks off each item made it worth it. They also provide a selection of breads that you can grill yourself on an open grill in the middle of the restaurant. The pastas we had as mains were filling but not particular memorable. Good enough for a transit meal to your next destination. Just remember to check if it is happy hour and get the menu!

Surprisingly good food, service was ok. Our waitress was super clumsy and easily distracted which meant long waits to get her attention for ordering/etc They seated us outside where they had many many heaters for display but low and behold... NONE OF THEM WORK so I froze my butt off. Ugh! The spaghetti bolognese was filling and hit the spot although the meat was questionable? Didn't taste like meat... was like a weird chicken flavor. The veal was good and had a hearty portion of spaghetti on the side. All dishes were large in size and worth the $$$ but the service was just ok and I was upset about the heaters not working in COLD BANFF!

The food was decent. We had a pasta and a steak dish. Both were well made and the portion sizes were large. Service staff were friendly and attentive. It's a pretty large restaurant, clean and with the convenience that's it's attached to the hotel.

Just reviewing their lunch service but would definitely come back for dinner too. It's hard to beat their four different lunch specials for $15 each which includes a bread bar with 5-6 different kinds of breads and spreads, and an open grill for you to have fun and grill it yourself. Our server checked back on us often and topped off our coffees, and whatever brand of beans they use it is excellent. She deserves high marks for proposing a substitute in pasta sauce since the default is not a typical red tomato sauce but rather an oil! The spaghetti lunch special hit the spot with ripe cherry tomatoes and meat sauce, it was a little bland forcing the need for salt and pepper but it was a generous serving with no leftover box required. This spot is also known for their flatbreads which look delish. Free parking lot, connected to Acclaim Hotel by the airport.

Ate there after an unexpected layover in Calgary. The grill-it-yourself bread station was fun, the Parmesan chicken wings were delicious, and the grilled chicken breast was excellent. If I'm ever stuck in Calgary again, I'll go back!

Stumbled (ok drove) past this place on my way back to the hotel from a biz trip in Calgary. Due to a recent snowstorm I had been sticking close to hotel and training site for food which meant the pickings were VERY slim. First off, if you're driving, tons of parking! Phew. I was seated right away in the lounge area. You can choose that or the dining room; I was alone so the lounge seemed appropriate. It was dark and cozy and had my drink order taken quickly. While I waited I wandered over to the bread bar the server told me was complimentary with an entree. I have to admit when I heard "bar" I expected....more? There are baskets of 5 different breads, sliced, on a rop rack and then 6 kinds of butter below on a counter. Although I arrived at 5 pm the focaccia was out which everyone seemed to want. I didn't get the bread bar concept...poor wording. Maybe basket of bread and a couple butter to each table be better? I actually thought there would be olive oil and balsamic to dip but no. Just butter. I opted for the linguine alfredo with gratin. I thought it was delicious. It was creamy, cheesy, calorie laden and rich which is what I was looking for. I would stop in again but honestly, I wouldn't do the bread bar. That's just me.

During that time no one checked in on us, or offered us any extra bread despite knowing food was delayed. Finally we asked our waiter at the 1 hour mark when food was coming and he said there were still 3 tables ahead so maybe another 15-20 minutes. After we finally received our food, the manager came and checked in. When we told him we waiting an hour he simply replied "It's a Friday night and we're fully seated. Thanks for waiting." Overall, the lack of empathy from the staff, the under seasoned pasta, and the overcooked risotto made this a very underwhelming experience. We will not be coming back. PS. No pictures because we inhaled our food.

Yesterday, we had a wonderful dinner at the new Buon Giorno, downtown on 17th. We hadn't been there…read morefor many years, and we wanted to try the brand new one. Its reputation is glowing, and many of the old staff have stayed on. Also, we were celebrating one year out of hospital for Linda - a long road of recovery that has led to her feeling better than ever. The remake of this restaurant, just down the street from the original location, was as good as it can possibly get. It was an icon, and it most certainly is even more so today. The décor, the design, the layout inside - were exceptional. What a great place! And the vibe! It buzzed with life and enjoyment, at the perfect level so you could still hear and have a comfortable conversation. This is a happy place. The service, from a professional and happy server who had been with Buon Giorno for 25 years, cheerful and attentive, was excellent. We started off with a Calamari Napolitana as a shared antipasto. Fried and breaded calamari, in a spicy tomato sauce, exactly to our liking. Delicious! We agreed that this was the best fried calamari we had ever tasted - and we have tasted quite a few. For my main, I chose the Gamberetti e Capesante Livornese - or, if you like, the shrimp and scallops in a light white wine tomato sauce with fresh basil. This was wonderfully delectable. It made me very happy. The serving size was perfect. Linda chose the Cannelloni Fiorentina, stuffed with veal, prosciutto and spinach in a bechamel tomato sauce. Oh, she loved it! All the flavours were perfectly integrated. The serving size was a bit larger than necessary (a personal observation), so some was left on the plate, but it was as delightful as it could get. We finished off with perfect deserts. I have to say something about Italian restaurants in Calgary. There are scores of them. The new Buon Giorno is one of the very best we've been to anywhere in Canada. Buon Giorno is right up there with the absolute best. No, I don't know anyone who works there, or any of the ownership, nor do I have a financial interest in this gem. But I am interested in supporting exceptional local restaurants. This is one of them. We sat down ordered 2 bottles of Prosecco for our table of 4. Unfortunately, they didn't have orange juice .. in order to make a mimosa's quite a bummer. Service: Quick and easy, waitress was very nice to us .. perhaps I wished she took more time explaining their menu.. Food: Charging money because you have a gluten allergy is absolutely BONKERS !!!! So we were in a pasta mood and ordered the lasagna and the cannelloni. Sad news for the cannelloni: we felt they were flavorful, but too dry inside. Cannot recommend. The lasagna was very tasty, but for my liking it had very little cheese. We did eat all the portion though ;) it was flavorful. Italian cuisine varies from region to region, we were expecting a plate covered in bechamel for the cannelloni and there was none. So it did not meet expectations... but the pasta was good, home made, thin, and the sauces were flavorful... so a solid 3 stars for good quality. I do have to say that our waiter approached us to ask if all was to our liking, and only at the end did I disclose our disappointment... I didn't know what they could do to make it better...and we were so hungry we had already eaten half anyways... well in this they excelled as they comped our cannelloni and gave us a very good tiramisu to top it off! Definitely 5 star customer service! This is a local family owned restaurant that prides itself in having happy customers, and we are just passing by... nonetheless they really tried, and succeeded, in having us leave with a happy face. And that gives them a solid 4 star overall! Enjoy.
