As a chef with many years of experience, I rarely feel compelled to write a review this direct, but this visit truly warrants it. My experience at this Italian restaurant was, unfortunately, one of the most disappointing I've had in Canada. The risotto --a dish that demands respect, technique, and precision-- arrived in a state completely opposite to what it should be. Instead of the expected al dente grain with a creamy, cohesive texture, I was served overcooked rice, mushy and without character. At that point, it ceases to be risotto; it becomes simply poorly executed rice. The shrimp, an ingredient that requires careful timing and delicate handling, were overcooked to the point of losing their natural sweetness, juiciness, and distinctive texture. Seafood treated this way can only reflect a lack of attention and skill. The fondue was perhaps the most confusing part of the night. Far from being a well-balanced preparation, it resembled a thick, heavy sauce, almost like a bechamel with cheese. And although they attempted to elevate the dish by adding truffle, no amount of truffle can disguise a mediocre product or justify an inflated price. As a culinary professional, I understand that not every day in a kitchen is perfect, but the lack of technique, execution, and respect for ingredients here was evident. I would like to thank them --ironically-- for giving me one of the worst culinary experiences I've had in Canada. Certainly a visit I will not repeat. read more

Really lovely people. My flight was cancelled so I had to stay at this hotel. I called the restaurant to get my food to go and it was pipping hot when I got there in ten minutes. The hotel recommended this place so we went. There is a good vibe, families celebrating together, romantic dinners, nice bar area. It was busy (good sign) so it took a few minutes to be seated. There is a unique bread grilling experience. 6 different types of bread 4 different types of butters... garlic, original, pesto, tomato. Once those selections have been made you place your bread on a grill and cook it up just they way you like it. The plates coming out looked wonderful. The portions were very large. Definitely ask for a take home box right away. I had the spaghetti with sausage instead of meatball. Hubby had chicken Parmesan. We both truly loved our meals. It is not often I give a place 1 star but my food was not edible. I ordered the gluten free bolognese. It tastes like chef boyardee out the can. Absolutely horrible. I even made others in my party taste it and they all agreed. My husband ordered the gluten free carbonara and rated it 2/5. Our friend ordered the regular carbonara and added grilled chicken 2/5. The Pacini restaurant is connected to the Acclaim hotel. We stayed there during our first and last evening in Calgary. Dined here twice. Breakfast and dinner. Breakfast was alright. They have an unlimited bread bar which was great. 4 types of breads, butter and jellies. You toast them yourself on the grill. Dinner was ok, not too amazing. I think we were all hungry. For 4 of us we shared the dinner for 2, mozzarella pomodoro and the risotto balls. The food was just under seasoned. I had to add a lot of salt to my food. The dinner for 2 came with steak, shrimp, veggies and fries on this wooden platter. It's good enough to feed 2. The mozzarella pomodoro was basic, came with pita bread/naan and arugula and mozzarella. Risotto balls were ok. Had some sauce to dip but had no taste. Service was decent both times. Restaurant is always busy being that it is connected to hotel and there are not much food options close by. read more

We did not eat the food and sent it back pretty much untouched, but they discounted only 15%. We noticed other tables with uneaten food when we came in... should have seen the warning. read more

This restaurant was convenient as it was located right next to our hotel for the night. Just a short walk away, we figured it would be suffice for dinner before an early night. We got there in time for happy hour as advertised by the hotel. Strangely, we were not given the happy hour menu. We had to ask our waitress for it , who checked her watch, confirmed it was and brought it to us. The moment we ordered, the menu was promptly taken away. We noticed that subsequent tables were not provided the happy hour menu either. Why have a happy hour when you don't want people to use it? We ordered drinks and the half flat bread with meatballs off the happy hour menu. A couple bucks off each item made it worth it. They also provide a selection of breads that you can grill yourself on an open grill in the middle of the restaurant. The pastas we had as mains were filling but not particular memorable. Good enough for a transit meal to your next destination. Just remember to check if it is happy hour and get the menu! read more

Our waitress was super clumsy and easily distracted which meant long waits to get her attention for ordering/etc They seated us outside where they had many many heaters for display but low and behold... Just reviewing their lunch service but would definitely come back for dinner too. It's hard to beat their four different lunch specials for $15 each which includes a bread bar with 5-6 different kinds of breads and spreads, and an open grill for you to have fun and grill it yourself. Our server checked back on us often and topped off our coffees, and whatever brand of beans they use it is excellent. She deserves high marks for proposing a substitute in pasta sauce since the default is not a typical red tomato sauce but rather an oil! The spaghetti lunch special hit the spot with ripe cherry tomatoes and meat sauce, it was a little bland forcing the need for salt and pepper but it was a generous serving with no leftover box required. Answers will vary. Hotel is adjacent, "included" breakfast is "make it yourself" toast unless you have a voucher, which is handed out to convention guests but not casual travelers like us. Otherwise, it is not inexpensive. So we went to Tim Horton's for breakfast, since we were going to hit the road anyway. Dinner is not cheap either, but, after a long day on the road from Jasper, we did not want to venture out again. All the food, 4 adults, 4 different entree's was excellent. Make it yourself toast again, but excellent bread. Staff, even the "hostess" could not explain the relationship between the hotel and the restaurant, "I guess we are separate businesses" she said, and, given that Pacini is a small chain, she might have been right. If flying in to Calgary late, or flying out early, we would stay in the hotel again. read more

Stumbled (ok drove) past this place on my way back to the hotel from a biz trip in Calgary. Due to a recent snowstorm I had been sticking close to hotel and training site for food which meant the pickings were VERY slim. First off, if you're driving, tons of parking! Phew. I was seated right away in the lounge area. You can choose that or the dining room; I was alone so the lounge seemed appropriate. It was dark and cozy and had my drink order taken quickly. While I waited I wandered over to the bread bar the server told me was complimentary with an entree. I have to admit when I heard "bar" I expected....more? There are baskets of 5 different breads, sliced, on a rop rack and then 6 kinds of butter below on a counter. Although I arrived at 5 pm the focaccia was out which everyone seemed to want. I didn't get the bread bar concept...poor wording. Maybe basket of bread and a couple butter to each table be better? I actually thought there would be olive oil and balsamic to dip but no. Just butter. I opted for the linguine alfredo with gratin. I thought it was delicious. It was creamy, cheesy, calorie laden and rich which is what I was looking for. Flight diverted into Calgary, airline put me up in the hotel that this place is attached to. It's really the only restaurant other than fast food in the area, so they kind of have the market cornered. It looks like a hotel restaurant, menu consisting of Italian things like pasta and pizza. I played it safe and chose a mozarella and basil pizza, it was undercooked and chewy. But, here is the kicker, they have a grill your own bread bar, so, in reality, because I am a carbaholic, I should have skipped the pizza and went full on bread. Massive grill in the middle of restaurant, shelves of sliced bread. Pick your kind, slather it with different flavoured butters, grill to your liking, grab some oil and balsamic, voila! Magnificent stuff. Screw the menu, order beer and the diy bread grill, without the bread grill this place would be a 2 star. Service was good. read more

Got a flyer in the mail last week for Pacini's. I had to come to the area to get my car serviced, so I thought I'd try them for lunch. Decor? Very nice and a bit understated. Dark wood, copper & stone. Service? Reasonably quick and very friendly. The food? The bread bar was a bit disappointing for selection, but what was there was tasty. I had the foccatia with oil & balsamic. 3 kinds of butter and you can grill to your liking. I had the traditional lasagna for lunch. Good size with traditional flavours. I will be coming back to try their dinner menu. Consider taking a drive out to Freeport landing the next time you have the urge for traditional Italian. read more

I was staying at the Wingate by Wyndham near the airport and didn't have a car. I asked about places to eat for lunch within walking distance, and was told the airport had a number of places. The shuttle driver suggested I go here instead. She dropped me off and picked me up. Great customer service by Wingate. Pacini's is a nice place. Good sized lunch crowd. Unfortunately there was only one waiter in my area and so service was slow. I had the crusted cod for lunch. It was tasty, but I think a bit pricey. The waiter brought extra cheese, which I appreciated. He left the container with the cheese on the table, and so I assumed I could help myself as I wanted to. Suddenly, in the middle of my meal he took it away and gave it to another table! Thought that was a bit strange. Overall this was an OK experience. Not horrible. They have a grilled bread station which I have never seen before, you add pesto, butter or garlic butter to your bread and you grill it out in the open, very social. The service was good. I had the bruschetta and was different, the pesto was a tad oily. Visited hear early (5pm) on a Saturday for my mom's birthday. Service was pretty decent for our group of 9, which included 5 kids. Reservations definitely required for large groups (which we had). Why did I give it 2 stars? 1. The food is rather bland, surprisingly for Italian. The parm fondant appetizer had no taste and there wasn't enough "chips" for the small serving (thankfully the bread bar came in handy). 2. The chicken parm was small and the zucchini and red peppers were undercooked. 3. They no longer honour their birthday discount(% off your meal based on your age). Instead, the birthday person gets a free dessert...but only 1 is offered on the dessert menu...ice cream with some soggy pastry smothered in your choice of chocolate sauce or caramel. Drizzled would have been much better. Actually, let the birthday person choose ANY dessert on the menu! 4. Their beer menu sucks royally. Typical Molson and Labatt products. With craft beers and microbreweries all the rage right now, get those on your menu! Thankfully, my Chianti with my entree made up for it. It was my first visit and sadly, will be my last. read more

A favourite to many is this restaurant's Bread Bar. Undeniably delicious. The bread bar is actually a self-serving area - complimentary when you order an entrée. A variety style of bread and flavoured butter is provided near the grilling station - once you have picked your choice of bread and had them buttered - the breads are then placed on the grill to have that crispy toasty effect. It's so good that you'll feel guilty after the 5th round of Bread Bar. I love my Fettucini Alfredo pasta with Chicken Breast from Ricky's All Day Grill - I figured since this is an Italian Restaurant - pasta should fare way better than a non-Italian restaurant. I literally had my pasta made for me 3 times and I gave up. The pasta was chewy even though I told them umpteen times I like it really really soft. Each time it turned out chewy - I emphasised strongly on having it real soft. Still they failed to serve me real soft pasta - all 3 times. The lack of gravy made the pasta lacked of moisture which made it difficult to savour - flavour was also lacking. Even though I hardly ate my entrée - they still charged me for the item - nevertheless I was offered a free dessert. A good dessert but I'm definitely not a fan. The only thing that really stands out is its Bread Bar and pizzas. Quite disappointing actually. I left quite unsatisfied and wouldn't consider returning again - unfortunately. read more

5 minutes from the airport, great spot to catch a quick bite before your flight. If you tell them you have a flight to catch, they do their best to get your food out quick. They've done this for me a few times and it's very much appreciated! Service is always spectacular here, they go out of their way to make sure you are having a good meal. Grill your own toast is such a great idea too. Idea being the key word. Usually there are a handful of kids going through their pyro phase here, parents MIA. It never works out for me, but the spreads they have are delish! Only quiffs I have with this place is...the food. It's always really just sub par. Run of the mill, Boston Pizza food. I think someone mentioned this in a previous review and I couldn't agree more. Pasta + Sauce. Pretty meh. Loved it On our was home from an amazing trip through the Canada West, we spent the night at a hotel close to the Airport and in doing so limited our options for dinner. Pacini Pasta was our only choice actually. We read some mixed reviews on yelp and I have to honestly say I can't figure out what the negative reviews were talking about. First off, the staff was very friendly. From the hostes to the servers, everyone met us and served us with genuine smiles. The restaurant was clean and beautifully decorated. It is a great place for a date or a family dinner. They have large tables and even private rooms for those who desire them. The bar was a bit quite while we were there but looks like a great place for a few drinks and has great TVs for catching a game. The food selection is great. There is something for everyone. The food itself wasn't the bets I've ever had, but it was good. Everyone was pleased with their mean. The bread bar is a lot of fun. I have never seen anything like this before. The different butters and spreads they have are very tasty (garlic, pesto, tomato basil, etc) and grilling your own bread is simple yet somehow really fun! Especially for the young ones. Our server (from Romania) was excellent. She was friendly, fast and took really great care of us. We were using a food voucher from westjet and the waitress told us as she brought the bill out that our drinks were not covered by the voucher however the voucher which had $90 on it had to be used in full. This was fine however she told us she was bringing out desserts for us to we could use up the rest of the voucher, she did not tell us the price and it ended up increasing her total tip by about ten dollars. We, on our last day in Canada before heading back to Florida where we live, we stayed at a hotel near the airport in Calgary (Not the Holiday Inn we had stayed at coming to Canada-see that review). We were surprised by a local restaurant at another hotel, The Acclaim Hotel. Anyway, we ate at the Italian restaurant named Pacini and our waitress, Jess was exceptional, as was the food. This is what they say about their restaurant: "Pacini is unlike any other Italian restaurant chain. At the head office and at each of the restaurants, love guides our thinking, decisions and actions. We love authentic Italian cuisine - from the quality ingredients, intoxicating flavours and inspiring aromas to the textures and appetizing presentations. And we love the people, young and older, customers, community members, employees, franchisees, suppliers and partners". We found this to be true and enjoyed our meals, our wine and our waitress very much. It was a terrific ending to a terrific trip. Usually we do not favor hotel restaurants, but this time it was exceptional! read more

A beautiful, beautiful restaurant. Servings on some things like pizza are too small to share, but they have a nice kid's menu, a great bar, and a confusing menu that tries to be just a little more than it needs to be. The sangria is nothing like a sangria in spain or anywhere else. The fried vegetables were just strange. Service was a little off the first night we were there, with long waits, but was much better the second night we went downstairs. The bread bar is nice, although no one told us about it the first night we were there. In this low carb world, it's strange to have an all you can eat, "toast your own", bread and butter bar. It was okay. For a run of the mill traveler's hotel building, the interior of this restaurant is really beautiful. Can't say enough about it. Wish they had room service, since they are so closely integrated with the hotel, but they do allow you to call and you can pick up meals and take them to your room. read more

Upon entering you walk past a little gift shop with an assortment of goodies such as Pacini sauce and pasta mixes, cookies, breads etc.. The restaurant is fairy spacious with tall ceilings, and it had a nice modern decor similar to moxies or milestones. One of the neatest parts of the restaurant is their all-you-can eat bread station located in the middle of the restaurant where you can choose from over 5 different types of bread and butter spreads (plain, garlic, pesto, and sundried tomato). Once you picked your bread and spread, there is a giant communal grill where you can toast your bread. Definitely a great way to engage the customers. Once seated, our server offered us a choice between sparkling or regular water which they filter in-house. The menu contains a variety of dishes including your usual Italian appetizers, pizzas, pastas, lasagnas, chicken, and steak. Our server was professional, nice and attentive. One complaint I had was that the food came out really slow but he was nice enough to let us know of the status. My bf ordered the Pizzas Rustica Duos (half a pizza and fettuccine alfredo) and I had the Lasagna Oceano (Smoked salmon lasagna rolls topped with a Rosata sauce and garnished with shrimps and scallops, gratinéed with Asiago cheese). The food looked good coming out but no matter how much cheese and sauce they slathered on my pasta, it was still flavorless and was missing that 'je ne sai quoi'. Overall, Pacini is 'meh'. If you live in the North East, Pacini is an option you're going to want to try. My only gripe is the location (just North of the airport), which is simply too far for me to travel especially by transit which is next to nonexistent when you get out that far. It's been open for about six months, and from my understanding the management has been changed since the opening. The management I dealt with were great and the staff very professional, friendly and knowledgeable. Again, I know the new management brought some new staff in when the changed happened, which could show that this new team knows what they are doing. The food is good, I have to say. I can't describe this as a traditional Italian restaurant, but it's safe to call it a modern Italian restaurant with a few unique twists. They have a complimentary bread bar where people can toast their bread and then slather on one of a few spreads, bottled water is offered to each customer- water that is bottled on-site and comes in either regular or carbonated just to name a couple of features. The food is good in my opinion. I had the assorted Bruschetta appetizer and a Lasagna with sausages, peppers and other goodies. The appetizer plate was very good (slightly dry) and the lasagna was topnotch. On the decor side of things, it is a big, modern restaurant that is meant to appeal to a wide variety of clientele. A big bar, high ceilings and a designer wall that changes colour give it a hip-bar feel, while the rest of the restaurant is ideal for dining in groups or in a date setting. I'm a fan, I just don't know the next time I'll be up that far North. read more

Friends were staying at the hotel on their stop over in Calgary so we ventured to something close for them so they didnt have to worry about driving. Even though this place is on the other side of town for us, we are always willing to try something new. We arrived and could not find parking. You would think since this restaurant is on the main floor of a hotel, they would have plenty of parking. Sadly we had to do a few laps around and found parking....very far away. Fail. Had reservations with a small group. 5 adults + 1 child. The restaurant is nice and great decor. It was busy and not sure why since its a Tuesday night and well after "normal dinner hours"? We were seated promptly at a table. Menus were dropped off and drink ordered taken. Ordered a couple bottles of red wine for the table and apple juice for the child. Wine and juice arrived and then our waiter left. We already all knew what we wanted since while he was away getting wine, we made our choice. Not sure if all the menus stalked at the end of the table threw him off or he wasn't ready to take our order? No idea? 25 minutes later he returned..... " Are you ready to order?" Not sure if that's a trick question but hey, we are ready. Waitor isn't overly friendly at all. 3 orders of pizza, 1 fettuccine Alfredo and 1 chicken parmigiana. As well as a kids pasta. All very easy orders and ordered quickly. We don't mess around when we are hungry! The restaurant started to clear out now and it was no longer that busy. We noticed by our table, some sort of buffet and patrons going up and back to their table. We had no idea what it was so asked one of the waitresses passing by. She explained it was a garlic bread station where you can make your own garlic bread and it's included in your meal. She said that when our waiter/waitress takes our order they will explain it to you. We advised her our waiter already took our order and he didn't explain anything nor did he even talk to us. Just took our order and left. She seemed perplexed? Not sure why? Eventually our food arrived...40 minutes later. Oy! What a gong show, but we are all too hungry to complain to anyone at this point. The margaretta pizza was so stiff and hard that sawing it with a knife wasn't working well. It seems that all three pizza's ordered, even though different kinds were all over cooked. FAIL. The fettuccine and chicken parmigiana were great. Mental note - should have ordered the pasta! Why did I order a pizza? Because I thought it would be quick. Didn't see our waiter during dinner nor did he replenish our wine since delivered when we arrived at the restaurant. Everyone finished dinner and we sat. Well except for the 3 of us who ordered pizza, most was not eatten at all. We just nibbled on the other two's pasta. Our lovely waiter showed up and with the bill???? No mention if we wanted dessert or more wine, just the bill. So we knew that was our queue to leave. He asked if we wanted boxes for the pizza since it was hardly eatten? Our lovely, out of town guest stated that all the pizzas were really over cooked and hard and none of us would be taking them home. They were horrible. His queue could have been an apology, maybe offer to take it off the bill, maybe even offer us dessert but all he said was "that's too bad". He left the bill and left..... We knew we may never see him again and would be stuck. So we went and paid at the front. I told the hostess that our waiter wasn't really that great and that is why I was paying in front since he may never return for us to pay and we just wanted to leave. She rang it up and didn't offer any communication or an apology for the lack of service. All very disappointing. Dinner at this place was not cheap. Entree's ranged from $18 - $35 for pizza and pasta and surly was not worth it. Between the horrible service and the food, I don't think I would make the trek to this place again. So much better options in the NE by the airport and this place isn't it. FAIL. read more
