Truly a wonderful dish as its made up of merguez lamb sausage, mezze pasta paired spiced tomato sauce, creme fraiche, garlic panko, parmesan, soft poached egg. OMG. When the worst thing you can say about a place is that it's hard to pick your meal, you know it's a winner. This is one of the best breakfast joints I've EVER been to, full stop. Originally 4 stars but 5 stars given they professionally remedied the situation I went here on a Tuesday morning for brunch and it was still fairly busy, but I was seated immediately. If you show up after 9am, be prepared to wait a bit or make reservations in advance on Toast to be safe. I tried their newer item, birria de res eggs benedict, which is served on cheese bannock, an indigenous Canadian bread, and opted to sub potatoes/salad for garlic fried rice for 3 CAD surcharge, which is well worth it. The beef was tender and the eggs are perfectly runny and the cheese bannock added heartiness and a more unique texture compared to English muffin. It is a combo of Mexican, indigenous Canadian, and Filipino influences all in 1 dish! To pair with the food, I had a pineapple mimosa which was of good portion. Originally, the dish had hair so I caught it and flagged the issue, so they immediately remade the whole dish for me, apologized, and comped my mimosa so despite losing 10 min of my time, I am okay with this remedy, so I rate this experience for the food and service outside of this incident. This place serves very unique brunch menu items. I got the "My Breakfast in Tokyo" and thought it was alright. It came with thick cut smoked salmon on top of sushi seasoned rice with poached eggs, seaweed, and spinach on the side. The seaweed pieces tasted old and were hard to chew. The seasoned rice had too much vinegar in it. The poached egg and salmon tasted fine. It also came with miso soup but it tasted strange, not sure why there was oil in it... miso soup usually does not contain oil. My fiance got the Breakfast in Manila and thought it was alright as well. The rice was too salty and the sausage tasted like low quality meat. It seemed like they were short on waitresses and it took a while for them to take our order and for us to get the check. This place is also a plant store and it felt cozy. One of the best brunch we've ever had!! Such a cute place! I was tickled to read the menu and loved seeing such diverse selection of entrees. Everything g sounded so delectable that we had such a hard time narrowing down to two dishes. We had Kaya French toast and crab fried rice. Sweet and savory...perfect combination! They were so tasty and presentation was equally delicious to the eyes! Someone on the review said be sure to order the London Fog tea as it will be a treat and boy, it sure was!! Didn't even leave a drip! My hubby ordered Cafe Mocha and that tasted like what we had in Europe. Rich and delish!! Our waitress was the sweetest and she really helped to complete our whole food experience at Maven. Cute spot to stop by for brunch! We came by after landing in Calgary for our first meal. There's a good amount of street parking and we didn't have any trouble finding a spot. There's two spaces - the more restaurant section in the front and the cafe in the back that's the plant space. We were seated in the plant cafe and loved the decor. For food we split the hoisin duck benedict and braised beef cheeks. Both had good flavors - the duck benedict came with a big salad and thin slices of duck. It was a bit odd that it was served on a slice of sourdough bread rather than english muffins but the flavors worked well together. The braised beef was also super flavorful but had a good amount of fat that was inedible. It came with spaetzle which was an interesting twist but I found the pasta to be too heavy with the braised beef and it didn't have a ton of flavor. Five stars for brunch. If you are heading back from a holiday in Banff, you should treat yourself and go to this Gem in Calgary. Unique style as the plates were decorative, cute small garden out front, and quaint small brunch spot. Service was good and received great recommendations on the menu. Last time I was here, they shrunk their congee to to 1/3 the original size but the flavour was still there. I still have a good review. This time, it was even smaller and with very little flavour. I did not enjoy it. I was saddened. If you have a good congee recipe, there is no way to go wrong. But Maven's did congee wrong on Wednesday! A cheap dish that Asians eat as comfort food in larger portion when made well. I am disheartened to return to Maven's. If the chef and owner can severely cut down the size of congee and its flavours without reducing the price, it would be worse with their other dishes. There is no other explanation other than to over charge for a smaller portion with less quality. I would not recommend this dish to anyone the way it is right now. read more

We felt bad about that, so we ordered some drinks. I was overcharged by three dollars for a mimosa that was supposed to be on special and on the menu the price of sparkling water is not listed. This is a great restaurant. It's extremely popular on the weekend. Make sure you are on the Yelp app early to reserve your spot. For a 12:00 seating you might have to put yourself on the waitlist at 9:30. However, in general I love the yelp app. You can wait at home and head to the restaurant closer to when a table is ready. The food was good. I ordered the Bannock Benny. Love the Bannock and the poached egg. I did not like their hash browns. I personally can make better hash browns at home. They do have a really extravagant menu with various different options pending on what you feel. I do like the plant store concept. It's quite neat. Overall, a great place for brunch. Amazing brunch place! We got there around 9am on a Saturday and were seated promptly. The decor is nice and vibrant--Art Deco-y with cute plates. There's an open kitchen, so you can watch the chefs make your food in real time. Drinks: I started off with a chai latte, which had a nice sprinkle of nutmeg on top. It was very smooth and actually came out at the perfect temperature--not too hot or cold. I also did the Beach Episode, a tart, slightly fruity mocktail with a tea base--delicious. My partner liked the coffee, but I can't render judgment because all black coffee tastes like sludge to me. We each ordered a brunch entree and they were both the perfect portion. I got the ginger saffron French toast, which came with incredibly thick slices of very fluffy bread--possibly the thickest French toast I've ever had. It comes with jam, cream, and a ginger-y, custard-y sauce, which was excellent. I find French toast to be too sweet sometimes, but this was the perfect level of sweetness. My partner got the citrus hoi sin duck eggs benedict, which had duck meat and poached eggs--maybe they were duck eggs but seemed like regular eggs to us. The sauce was rich and creamy and the pickled blueberries added a nice tang to the whole thing. The potatoes on the side were crisp on the outside but nice and soft on the inside. We were both very impressed by it, although I didn't pick up as much on the citrus. The prices were super reasonable for the quality, and they have a lot of creative and interesting-looking dishes.
