I have brought my dogs to Packanack Animal Hospital for the past 12 years and feel they have been well cared for. The staff is extremely kind, professional and thorough. The Veterinarians on staff there answer my questions and take as long as we need. As a dog owner, I feel it is my responsibility to do the research also into the best care and feeding for my dogs. One of my dogs had a unique condition and Dr. Sharon Capone took the time to attend a seminar regarding canines with Neurologic conditions, so she could ask specific questions in Banshee's case. Their hours are very accommodating and I have never had difficulty getting an appointment. In the enviable day my beloved pet and I had to part ways, we were treated with much kindness and understanding. The retirement of Dr. Noose certainly makes huge difference in the culture of this establishment. I will be going to a vet closer to my home because I feel this establishment is more concerned with making money than treating the animals needing their care. The staff will not let me speak to a vet, and I've been told I can only address my concerns with the office manager who is away for the week. I would give this vet a 0 if I could. I've been going to Packanack for my two dogs and cat since 2017 and recently switched over to a different vet after several negative experiences. While my experience was pleasant in the beginning, I began to notice the turnaround of doctors and staff was very frequent and the caring service I used to receive tanked. The new staff are rude, incompetent, uncaring, and will charge you for every little thing. We had a very hard day but want people to know that Packanack Animal Hospital eased the pain of losing our beloved Rajah, a Bengal who we've loved for 14 years. I can't begin to express how grateful we are for the compassion and care we received from Dr Gonzaga and Kiri today. So hard to say goodbye to our girl but knowing how gently and peacefully Rajah left us made it easier to accept. Packanack Animal Hospital's staff is so caring and friendly. I started going to Packanack after I moved to the area, and needed to find a new vet that offers acupuncture treatments. My dog sees Dr. Yim, she is excellent and so accommodating. My senior dog receives eastern and western medicine. The receptionist's are so helpful and the hours are really great. The technician's are knowledgeable and kind. I can't say enough great things! Dr. Yim is one in a million. read more

Gave this practice a shot when we moved to the area back in July of 2018. I will say that overall the doctors seem uninterested in actually getting down to the root of an animals issues where its more like guesses. Our cat was misdiagnosed by the male doc/owner with nasal issues and referred us to specialist. He actually said " I don't know what it is". You would think after years of practice that you would have run into this before. It ended up being on obstruction/growth on the trachea, they couldn't bring him back out of sedation due to the obstruction, so sadly we had to let him go. Just take a little more time with your patients. Care about what their saying and don't just worry about what you can charge. Get back to brass tacks and remember what you got into veterinary medicine in the first place, to diagnose and help animal no matter what the cost. Just my two cents - take it or leave it. Today we had to put our dog Rosie down which is never an easy situation. The doctor and staff really cared about Rosie's end of life and made sure we were comfortable all along the process. We recently switched veterinary practices and we are so glad we did. The compassion that both doctors showed from the time Rosie was diagnosed to being put to sleep was incredible. I have a sensative dog breed, they have almost killed my dog twice with reactions to injections he didn't need, they don't listen. He ended up at the emergency room ($300.00 later) for an allergic reaction to shots he didn't need. He has sensative skin which we are always getting treated, they never examine him just check his heart and bills us. They are quick to charge you but treatment is sketchy. I would give a zero if I could, keep your pets away from them. This place wants you in and out and of course here is your bill. They love money more than your pet that's for sure. read more

I took my beloved corgi to Packanack Animal Hospital for a little over a year. During this year, his gums and tartar buildup had become a serious problem. Each time I went to Packanack (for vaccines and other issues), I'd have them look at his teeth, as I was concerned about how they looked and smelled despite me brushing them and giving him dental chews. (you could smell him from across the room, and I don't think it takes a professional to see how bad his teeth and gums were. The vet was never concerned other than "some tartar on the canines" and simply suggested I "try brushing more often". Two months ago he started experiencing frequent back twitching and Packanack couldn't get him in for a few day, so I ended up going to another local vet who could get him in that same evening. While the new vet wasn't worried about the twitching (it went away on its own), he took one look my dog's teeth and said "These NEED to come out ASAP!" Two days later, I took him in for his first cleaning and what was supposed to be 2 extractions. During the procedure, the vet found and extracted TWELVE TEETH that were either rotting or fractured, and each had abscessed. If we had waited even a few more weeks, the infection could have spread and this could have been far, far worse. I feel so awful for having NO idea how bad this was, but when The vets and techs at Packanack kept waving it off and saying not too worry because he is "too young to need cleanings" and "would only need dental work if he's showing signs of pain", it was easily to trust that a trained, educated professional would know what's best. Please do not let yourself end up in this same position as me - take your precious pets to someone who cares about them and their wellbeing, and - more importantly - listens to you when you insist something is wrong. read more

When our family experienced the heartache of losing him, the staff and doctors went above and beyond in their support of both our dog and our family. We just adopted another puppy and are still experiencing the same love and care at Packanack. I've had a few different vets and vet techs and have had good experiences with all of them. My dogs are (understandably) nervous at the vet, and they've always been treated and handled well. The staff is friendly, helpful, and was able to get me an appointment within the hour for my dog with the illness. read more

I brought my kitten here on two occasions, and both times the staff left me feeling very unsettled. The first time was an appointment to get my kitten spayed. The surgery itself went well, but when I picked her up, barely any information was given to me about the after care of the surgery (helpful things like bring her litter box close to where she'll be sleeping because she won't be able to walk much, or how she was also given a vaccine during the surgery to which no one told me she'd have to redo if I didn't bring her back within a month). The tech who also brought her out had a major attitude because he wasn't able to get her collar on because she was hissing at him. My response was 'well if you got your ovaries just taken out I don't think you'd be in a good mood either.' The second time was to re-do the vaccine she was given because I wasn't told there was a time window in which she needed to get them done. She was so scared to be in the room - my guess is because the last time she was there she had surgery and also because of the smells of the other animals. The tech immediately made comments on how angry my kitten was and even said "what a shame she's so nasty, she's so pretty." which I found really rude. The vet then came in, didn't even acknowledge me or introduce himself, and INSISTED he give her the shot although she was CLEARLY petrified. I was SO unsettled with how scared my kitten was and the lack of concern or respect with which the vet was showing (I have never seen or heard her hiss or growl the way she was) that I actually had to ask him to stop and if I could bring her back after maybe giving her sedative, because I didn't want to make the experience any more traumatizing for her. It's clear to me this facility doesn't have the experience, patience, or any type of care for well-being to deal with kittens or maybe even animals who don't warm up to them immediately. The unprofessionalism and comments made by the staff were totally inappropriate and I for sure will be looking for another vet. read more

After being turned down by other veterinarians because my pet was not a current patient, I finally got in touch with PAH. They told me to come as soon as I could and they would fit me in. Under the circumstances of Covid I could not go in with my cat. The assistant who came out to get my cat was so sweet. I could hear him talking gently to my cat on his way in the building. The doctor called me on the phone and did not rush me through my ramblings of what was going on. I highly recommend this practice. 24 hours later, my cat is doing great. read more

I have multiple pets; a 2 year old Siberian Husky, a 1 year old German Shepherd and a 7 month old Persian mix cat. They are all treated by Dr. Neuss, he is very knowledgeable and polite. He is our favorite! The staff is very nice and friendly. Every time I call they always squeeze me in even if it is a last minute appointment. Prices are very reasonable and the facility is always super clean and organize. I wouldn't go anywhere else in this area. read more

A month ago, I brought my boyfriend's newly rescued pup, Piper, in to have an examination/consultation and the first of two lyme boosters with Dr. Neuss. Dr. Neuss's devotion to animals and the instant connection he makes with them is evident. At this visit, Piper was given a sample of Heartgard and a sample of Nexgard, and I was told by Dr. Neuss, at our next visit for the lyme booster Piper would receive a second set of samples. Dr. Neuss also recommended a vaccination to prevent an infection that a dog may get from drinking from puddles containing bacteria. Since Piper is not my dog, I said I would discuss it with my boyfriend and if he thought she should have it, we would get it on the follow up visit. Today was that follow up visit, and I honestly felt like I was walking into a completely different office. The vet tech seemed to have no idea what vaccine I was talking about when I asked for the shot Dr. Neuss had recommended, but after consulting with another tech, he told me they were out of it, and it wasn't that popular. OK... So, she got her lyme booster, and I asked the tech for the samples Dr. Neuss had told me I would be receiving free of charge and went to the counter to pay the booster. At this time, a woman who identified herself as the office manager told me free samples were a one time offer, and that in order to receive them today, I would have to pay, and the office would not "eat the charge". I explained this was a complete contradiction to what the Doctor had told me and since the doses must be given monthly, had I known I would be paying this month, I would have arranged to by them in bulk after the first visit. She made it very clear, my option was either to leave without the doses today and risk not administering them within the 30 days noted by the manufacturer, or to pay. Obviously, I paid. But explained that the lack of knowledge of a Doctor's own practice's procedures, should not be visited on clients left with no choice but to pay for their error. It should be noted, that upon looking into purchasing online, the savings are only about 10%. However, the convenience of buying bulk and not having to visit the office monthly to purchase is undeniable. Moreover, feeling like I had been party to a bait and switch, was infuriating. read more

We've been taking our 3 dogs to Packanack for as long as we've had them. The staff is always courteous and caring. When one of our dogs was diagnosed with lymphoma, they gave us the unvarnished opinion that we wanted in a sensitive manner. I've called when the answering machine answered too, but I attribute that to them being busy or handling emergencies, and certainly wouldn't count it against their ranking here. As pet owners, we sometimes have to wait for routine visits so other animals can receive emergency care. It's the same as with people. I'm certainly not going to complain about it. I've never felt that the wait was unreasonable. read more

Packanack animal hospital has become my veterinarian of choice. I lived in little falls for years and was accustomed to the vets adjacent to me. I won't go into the reasons on why I started to seek recommendations for another vet but I am sure glad I did. Everyone I have encountered at Packanack over the past 3 years have been both professional and pleasant to deal with. There was a review below where someone stated they try to price gouge. That's complete BS. A year or so ago my dog had an issue which I thought was an emergency and wanted to get her in asap. The tech checked with the doctor and came back on the line to explain they could take her immediately but would have to charge me the emergency fee. She recommended I wait until later in the afternoon so they could classify it as a standard visit. I did just that and that piece of advise saved me a pretty penny. Bottom line....Excellent and honest staff. Don't waste your money elsewhere. read more

I have been going to Packanack Animal Hospital with both my dogs since we first got our male GSD (because that is where the breeder took the litter when they were tiny pup for first shots). So i just continued. The office is nice but today I experienced a SHOCKER. My Diesel cut the back of his paw. Hubby wanted to take him to see the doctor because the wound looks like it may need stitches. He called to give a heads up but the girl said they only have an appointment on Saturday. Then I called and explained my hubby didn't call for an appointment but to give you heads up we will come to have doctor check the cut. She said no and that if we wanted we can come tomorrow morning and then we can pick him up later in the day. I told her we both work and we would like to come today and she said sorry can't today. I'm very disappointed. I proceeded to ask her why I would have to leave Diesel for the day if doctor didn't even see the cut. She said for stitches he will need to be put down. I reminded her about Bella and our Memorial Day getaway...she cut her paw very badly and we took her to a vet in PA. They were able to give her local anesthesia, stitch the cut and she was out in 30 minutes, clearly drugged up but out and walking. The point is: My dogs are VERY important to me and when they get hurt I need to get them help and YES it's urgent. If the hospital felt a cut that may need stitches is OK to sit on for couple of days than she should have said "Diesel will be OK if the wound won't be stitched up until couple more days, it's OK not to have it check up by the doctor today." If this was a child I would have gone to the emergency room, can you image them saying "sorry we are booked up come back another day"??? Im extremely disappointed. I feel cheated that I trusted a place and when I need them they passively blew me off. Yet when I book appointments for check up they happily greet me and happily charge me. Now I can't even count on them? Don't go here if you want to pay for care to someone who actually CARES when you need it the most! I will be going with Diesel to Dr. Mecheal of Lyndhurst Animal Hospital. I have gone there for over a decade with my cats. And I will save HUNDREDS of dollars to boot! I'm very disappointed. You get 2 stars: 1 for the aesthetics of the building and 2 for HOPE that you will shape up for the balance of your customers. read more

My daughters female dauchound was in to have her two fatty tissue deposits removed Thursday 7/2. Dropped in morning and was told to return at 5 for pick up. Upon arrival to Packanack Animal Hospital she was informed her dog had one deposit removed and the other in fact was a hernia. Her dog also was scheduled for teeth cleaning. There were 5 Vet Techs present at her discharge not one provided postoperative instructions. My daughter asked for a head cone. Was given printed instructions for the TEETH. Never even informed her that she needed an appointment to have all stitches removed nor to limit physical activities. The dog was given meds with my name on the bottle. Requested over 2 years ago address change never changed. My daughter called first thing Monday morning and of course never got a call back. By Tuesday made yet another's call to Animal Hospital and asked all questions of concern and was informed that dog shouldn't have been doing half the activities she was. And oh yes those stitches needed to be taken out. Been with this practice for years but upon next visit all this dogs records are coming with her. There is no excuse for this and really are all very unprofessional and inexperienced and This practice needs to be told and will next visit. read more

I would never recommend anyone to bring their pet here. If there were 0 stars, thats what i would rate. They are incompetent, and dont know the new vet techniques. My dog has been a diabetic for 2 years now, and we are learning from the emergency vet, that Packanack animal hospital has NOT been treating our dog with correct follow ups(getting gluclose tests) and mis treated on the location of incline shots. I have been bringing my animals here for more than a decade. The quality of care in recent years has degraded to the point that I simply cannot go back, despite having such a long relationship with the practice. I had my dog in for a routine dental cleaning today (second time, first was uneventful), and I am horrified how she returned. They offer to clip the pet's nails while under anesthesia- more like butcher, apparently. Nails on ALL FOUR PAWS were cut down to the quick (flesh) and bleeding. Now, if one nail was cut short, I wouldn't be upset at all. Mistakes happen, even though my dog has clear nails and I've never done that in the nearly 8 years I've owned her. But the fact that nails on literally every single paw were cut to the quick and bleeding, plus the fact that the IV looked like it was placed by a toddler (on a thin, vascular dog), clearly show the utter carelessness and lack of respect with which my dog was treated. Whether for a human or pet, a tremendous amount of trust is put into a physician when anesthesia is involved. You are trusting (and paying for) care in the best interest of the patient's well-being. What a shame to violate that. I called and spoke to someone at the office, who apologized and said she would call me back. I'm still waiting for that call with bated breath. Aside from this incident, I have had many issues with extremely rude office staff (not today). Sometimes you'll get someone nice, but often you'll have more enjoyable interactions at the DMV. It's a shame, because the two original vets (I've not yet met the new one) are usually quite nice during exams. But somewhere along the line, there is a general attitude of carelessness with techs and office staff- who you actually wind up dealing with more than the vets, just as in any other practice. For those reasons, I cannot recommend Packanack A/H. read more

I just want to comment on the last 2 people who gave this animal hospital bad reviews, I know them both, and my Pom was the one that passed away. They think they are doing me a favor to comment negatively on this Vet, not knowing all the facts and they never will. It turned to be a reaction from the anethesia ...I have all the records from the vets office and also an Necropsy from an outside Pathologist. The reason for one star is they're more concerned about making money then caring for the animals!! I've seen both Doctors with both of my dogs. First, our dog had a skin infection they refused to do any scraping saying it was an allergy. Gave me 2 rounds of antibiotics at 145.00 each and steroids along with a steroid shot. I was charged office visit every time instead of only being charged for a recheck! Second, our other dog needed her rabies shot in order to renew her license. When I called a young guy tried to inform me I needed to have her examined since her last exam was over 3 months prior. I got upset and stated to him even people only have a check up once a year!! I told the young man I would be in to pick up both of my dogs records and hung up. The young man called me back and said he spoke with Dr Nuss and to just bring her in for the shot, which I did. I have since switched vets. Oh and btw that skin allergy was Mange which took months to clear up. My new vet did a simple scraping and sensitivity test. We were able to use a generic antibiotic for 14 days worth at 42.00 instead of 145.00!! Only problem was we had to keep her on antibiotics for several months due to the fact it wasn't diagnosed until I switched vets!! Our new vet also gave us medicated shampoo that helped make our dog a lot more comfortable!! Do yourself a favor and use Dr. Krupnick at Pequannock Animal Hospital!! read more

I spent many months and thousands of dollars and was told that my pitbull had an abscess in his prostate. The ultrasound and biopsy, according to Dr Nuess, showed an infection that I was told was NOT cancer and my dog was given multiple rounds of antibiotics which did nothing to help him. The day I went in to get the results of the biopsy, Dr Neuss brought out a vile of grey fluid that was aspirated from my dog's prostate. He asked my son and I if we wanted to smell it as if it were some joke. He also called my dog a p---y because he was always so nervous to be there. I finally went to another vet for a second opinion only to find out my dog had metastatic prostate cancer. The new vet was able to give me this information within 48 hours and didn't charge me anywhere near what Packanack Animal Hospital did when they insisted it was only an infection. If my dog had gotten the correct diagnosis in time he may have had a chance that treatment could've saved him or at least given him more time with us and a better quality of life. Instead, it had spread to the point where nothing could be done and he was in so much pain that the multiple medications we tried couldn't help him. We had to put him to sleep to end his suffering and I am devastated!! read more

Unfortunately, I must agree with others that state that the vet is dismissive regarding the symptoms of your pet. I adopted my cat Smooch at 3 years old and the only reason I was going to Packanack Animal Hospital was because that is where the original owner brought her. I brought my 12 year old cat in for a checkup due to retching every several hours for 1 week. I explained that I do not think it's normal for her to retch day & night just over a hairball with no expulsion. He said she was healthy but bring her back if she lost any weight. I went to North Jersey Animal Hospital who immediately took an x-ray. Smooch has late state lung cancer with masses throughout her lungs and chest. 4 days after her initial visit to Packanack, I had to put her down. Thank God, I went to another vet or I would have ignored her retching for several more days! read more

I can't believe it but I feel like I'm doing the doctor's job. Twice, I brought my dog who is having new seizures and partial paralysis due to disc disease. The doc never laid a hand on the dog to examine. The vet tech took the dog for an xray, that's it. It had been over a year since the last visit, too. Take out your stethoscope and listen to the heart and lungs! Look in the eyes and ears. Do an exam! After all, I paid for it! Then the dog got an ear mass and the doctor said we'll have to call in a specialist for surgery. How about trying to aspirate the mass? How about taking a little biopsy so we know what we're dealing with. I had to tell HIM what to do! The mass was easily visualized and anesthesia was not required. I'm so disappointed, I can't tell you. I was supposed to hear today what the biopsy results were. NO CALL. My dog is not long for this world but if he were, I would find another vet. The charges are over the top, too. read more
