On 1/2/26, we noticed that our five-year-old dog, Lexi, wasn't herself and that something seemed off. We took her to our veterinarian at Willowbrook Animal Hospital in Fairfield, NJ, where she was seen by Dr. Ilka Bott-Wentworth (Dr. BW). After examining Lexi, Dr. BW told us that she had injured her back. She prescribed medication and advised us to monitor her closely. By 1/6/26, we noticed that Lexi had begun dragging her back right paw. We immediately reached out to Dr. BW, who recommended that we take her to Eclipse Emergency Hospital. Throughout this time, Dr. BW constantly checked on Lexi and truly went above and beyond her duties as a veterinarian. She also communicated with Eclipse Hospital and checked on Lexi. Dr. BW spoke with the doctors there to see how she was doing. I would highly recommend our veterinarian, Dr. Ilka Bott-Wentworth. If it weren't for her quick action and dedication, Lexi could have been paralyzed if we had waited. The care and love she showed Lexi were truly above and beyond expectations. Trust the 1-star reviews! Be very skeptical of the 5-star ones. This is an old school, traditional vet. We decided to try this vet after receiving a "Welcome to the Neighborhood Coupon" for a free exam and nail trim. The vet assigned to us on 3/7 was Ilka Bott and the assistant was Larissa. We brought in 2 of our cats, but the "exam" lasted less than 2 minutes for each cat, and they never did the nail trim for one of them. One of our cats became distressed during the visit, and despite us specifically asking them not to touch his belly, they did anyway; causing him to hiss. Instead of handling the situation with care, they quickly shoved him back into his carrier and ended the exam. What's even more concerning is that after expressing our concerns the day of, the only response we received was an invoice for an expensive surgery; with absolutely no explanation or discussion on 3/10. It's clear their priority is making money, not caring for animals. I'm sharing photos of my experience as a warning to others. Save yourself the trouble and find a compassionate, trustworthy vet elsewhere. EDIT (3/15): After emailing my concerns and posting my initial review on 3/10, I requested my 2 cats' medical records on 3/14. It was sent to me this morning and conveniently, they contained incorrect details that contradicted both my email and this review. They misrecorded my cat's diet despite specifically asking me about it (showing poor attention to detail) and told us she had swollen lymph nodes; yet the report claimed she was normal. The medical report states ("OWNER WAS RESISTANT TO SUGGESTIONS. explained to client that I had spent over an hour and 1/2 with them and politely explained I had other urgent cases waiting and needing my attention but that there is no charge for Meowy's appt. it would be a good idea to schedule an appt on the meds for a more thorough exam"). In reality, the doctor walked in on us and the vet tech and bluntly said, "I need this room now. You've been here too long," before rushing us out. Most of the visit was spent playing with my Toyger and asking questions they later failed to document accurately. The report's claim that we were resistant to their suggestions is simply another attempt at covering their mistakes. Their effort to disguise the truth with embellishments is not just misleading but also dangerous. I regret not recording the visit to expose their inaccuracies. The reports are unreliable that I can't even use them for future visits with other vets, despite having paid for the service. More examples of their negligence: - Their coupon had the wrong phone number- minor, but a red flag. If they can't even get their own contact info right, how can they be trusted with something as important as pet care? - The vet tech misweighed our cats and only corrected it after we asked her to check again. The owner urges unhappy clients to reach out but ignored me entirely. Don't bother saving face publicly if you won't stand by your word privately. Clown. Bottom line: They consistently overlook small details and are NOT trustworthy vets (cats specifically). read more

I brought my senior dog for a routine physical to have her anal glands expressed and her nails clipped. I also asked if they could do blood work to so that we could renew her heartworm pills. My husband and I both took off from work to take her to the vet visit. When we arrived, a tech met us and said "This was only listed as a tech visit." She brought our dog in the back and came back about 10 minutes later saying that all she could do was the nails because our dog "squirmed" too much. She handed me a bottle of trazadone in the waiting room in front of about 10 other patients and and told us that we'd need to drug our dog the next time around if we wanted them to see her again. While we picked our jaws off the floor, we got a bill for $88 for the tech to clip her nails. We won't go back again. read more

We took our cat to him and he diagnosed her with Diabetes. We were told Diabetes is not reversible. After giving her insulin for some time we took our cat to another Vet and she was diagnosed not having Diabetes! And to this day she still does not have Diabetes. When checking for Diabetes they need to do bloodwork AND CHECk URINE. The insulin which was not needed caused her to become constipated so badly she was in the hospital for 4 days. Sometimes Glucose levels can be high from stress!!!!!! read more

Wow... Blown away! Just returned from our first visit to WAC with my four dogs. INCREDIBLE STAFF. Everyone was attentive, caring and very efficient. Excellent communication. Dr. John was a breath of fresh air. He actually took the time to personally review the health for each of my dogs with me. My previous vet typically had a vet tech review the visit with me. Additionally, Dr. John offered suggestions that may ultimately bring the cost of care and feeding down as opposed to looking for ways to pad the bill with add on sales as some other vets tend to do. I can't even begin to tell you happy I am that I made the difficult decision to switch to WAC. read more

My cat was having a winky eye when I got back from vacation and unlike most vets I called, Willowbrook were able to get me in the next day even though I was a new customer. They explained every part of the process and why they did something and even followed up with me a few days after to make sure my cat was doing okay, which was really nice! Since he was alright we rescheduled for a later day to do a more extensive checkup+vaccines so that I wouldn't have to come in several weeks in a row. read more

I have had so many problems with this vet its not even funny, but the icing on the cake for us was them sending home my clearly unstable cat. I took my cat in on 09/13/24 because she was constipated and I thought she had a stuck hairball. This was the first time this specific cat was seen by them or any other vet because she was very very aggressive. Because of this aggression she hasn't had an updated rabies vaccine in 4 years, but she was an indoor only cat so I didn't think it matter much. Clearly it did because this office refused to see her without one and if it wasn't for me telling them she is barely eating they would've outright refused her. I take her in and they couldn't do anything for her because she wouldn't let them touch her. I was sent home with hairball remedy, constipation care, and gabapentin and was told to come back on Monday with her drugged up to see if shes more calm if she wasn't they will sedate her so they can take xrays. Monday 09/16/24 comes and I drop her off, they automatically Dr. john tells me shes getting sedated but he will try to keep the cost down as much as possible, which I was more than fine with just wanting my cat to get better. They kept telling me they don't vaccinate sick cats, but kept making a big deal about her rabies shot, but I didn't think they would do it if she was sick. Later in the afternoon I get a call to pick her up and they tell me she has a slight case of pneumonia but they caught it early, so its not that serious of a case. They give me antibiotics pills/shot and told me I can come get her. I pick her up and the vet tech is down playing this whole thing telling me shes going to be sleepy for the rest of the day and to let her rest, but other then that shes good but if she gets worse to take her to a emergency vet (they loved to tell you that especially near closing time for them) and they also have her the rabies vaccine. I was taken aback but figured they wouldn't do anything to harm her. I get my cat in the car and immediately I notice shes breathing kinda labored but I trusted them they wouldn't send him a very sick cat just because they told me they don't have a overnight shift to watch her. I WAS VERY WRONG!!!! She got worse in the middle of the night, so me and my husband take her to VEG, but by the time we got there she was gone. While the vets there were doing CPR to try and bring her back they kept saying her pneumonia was way worse then I was told and her chest was filled with fluid. Its taken me 3 months to write something because the whole experience was traumatizing and I don't want them to do this to anyone else. AND to top it all off this whole experience happened about a month after our new kitten died because they missed the symptoms of parvo. This place is nothing but money hungry and saw a desperate young person willing to do anything for her cat and took advantage of me. read more

I don't even know where to begin with how wonderful Dr.John and his staff are. I have been going to this office for about 3 years and I have never come across a staff so dedicated to animals. To begin, it is a meticulously clean office. You would never know animals were in there as there is no hair, dirt, or odors in the waiting room or exam rooms. The staff is always courteous and friendly, and they go out of their way to make you feel like family. I also noticed that they never schedule too many pets at once which leads to smooth transitions of patients and not a million dogs barking at one another or getting anxiety before their appointments. Dr. John is so friendly and caring..my dog absolutely loves him and so do we! You can tell he is passionate about what he does! Finally, I absolutely love that after the appointment the staff calls to check in/ follow up on your visit which is something that I feel sets them apart from the other clinics in the area. I have been going to this office for 10 plus years with 3 different dogs. The latest visit was the worst, I brought my dog to have her nails clipped, I was called on the phone to pick her up as the technicians said they could not cut all her nails, to come back tomorrow and give her this medication to drug her so she was calmer. Came back the 2nd day for them to tell me they still were not able to cut all her nails even thow she was drugged and this time 2 technicians were handling her. NOTE we never ever had this problem before. The kicker of this story is they billed me for the 1st day and then double billed me for the 2nd day because they said 2 people needed to help cut her nails and the nails were still not cut, so you charge me double because 2 people had to work on her nails???? I asked to speak to Dr. John I was told he was not there and they will have him call me this was 6 months ago, I never got a phone call. 5 days ago 6 months later I received a bill in the mail for 68.00 for nails that were never cut a receptionist who told me off and in return I did the same. Learn how to control your employees and teach them how to handle your customers pets, it is just a nail cutting, so sad I am flabbergasted not only were they rude they lied about what happened with the dog to cover themselves up, and Dr. John condones this. This place is great! My dog and I moved here last year from the west coast. We were recommended to Dr. John by a family member and him as well as his staff have been nothing but helpful. We've moved a lot over the years, and have been to a lot of vets, and this is by far the best we've ever been to. Doctor John is amazing. At our first visit, he spent about 45 minutes talking to us about anything and everything from the food we give our Bentley to his allergies. Each and every staff member is so nice and courteous, and they really care about your pets. The parking is great, there's a little dog park outside, and inside is clean as can be.
