I first started taking our dog Lily to Dr. Wellington a couple of years ago after I couldn't get an appointment with my long time veterinarian for months. The care provided by Dr. Wellington has always been thorough and professional. Recently, Lily, who was 14 years old, was diagnosed with end stage kidney disease and after Dr. Wellington dianosed and provided medication to keep her comfortable, my wife and I decided to euthanize her. The compassion and professionalism displayed by Dr. Wellington and his staff made a very difficult time much more bearable. We decided to have a private cremation. Lily's ashes arrived in a tasteful light wood box with a name plate and a condolence card signed by Dr. Wellington and his staff. All of this was packaged in a blue velvet drawstring pouch. My wife and I were truly moved by the respect shown for Lily and the recognition that her death was a truly sorrowful and difficult event. Thank you to Dr. Wellington and staff for treating Lily like the valuable and loved member of our family that she was.

A neurologist recommended we seek acupuncture, in addition to medication management along with 8 weeks strict crate rest. For the first 7 weeks Victoria could only sleep/lie with her back straight and head tilted. After just two treatments of acupuncture /electropuncture she is sleeping curled up again & the pain in her belly significantly reduced. After the fourth treatment, Victoria can stand stable with no shakes or wobbles. Her paws are not knuckling as much nor are her legs giving out on her. She shows no signs of pain. It has been challenging getting her through the treatments as she is anxious by nature but they are patient. Dr. Brazer's skills have been paramount in the healing of our lil girl. Dr Brazer is a miracle worker in our opinion. We still have a way to go but we haven't a doubt we are in the best possible hands. Never once did they try to sell additional services. Amazing Just look at this happy baby! ~

My original vet wouldn't preform the surgery being how extensive it would be. I reached out to Dr. McConnells mother who is a friend hoping for some advice on how to handle it. We brought our girl into Montclair Animal hospital first for an exam. Dr. McConnell is affiliated with both! She was warm, caring and kind not only to our pup but to us as well. She immediately said yes....i can take it out!! We scheduled the surgery a week later. Surgery was yesterday 5/13 and I can't THANK her enough! After dropping her off in the morning, I received a voicemail telling me that she was ready to perform the surgery and to reassure me she was doing well and was in good hands! Once out of surgery, she called me to let me know she did great!! Picking her up at 4:30pm, Dr. McConnell came out and gave us all the info about the surgery. She even brushed my girls hair! What vet does that?? It should be yours!!! Thank you Dr. McConnell! Thank you for helping my baby!!

I simply gave up on them, as they have clearly taken on a workload that eliminates any chance of being flexible and results in very long wait times for appointments. The local animal hospital down the road is also a single-Vet practice and while they seem to be a bit more accommodating, I think that trying to maintain a practice like this in such a busy suburban area is a mistake. While Dr. Wilson may be a good Vet, that becomes meaningless if an ill pet cannot receive timely treatment and the owner is turned away by staff that is devoid of compassion and concern for the animal. If you live in Cedar Grove or the surrounding area, spend the extra 15-20 minutes to go to Oradell Animal Hospital in Paramus. The quality of care and service there is truly impressive, and they have the resources to provide any level of care, including emergencies. A small single-Vet practice cannot offer much more than routine care and will send you to local emergency referral centers for urgent situations, more complex care, imaging, etc. anyway, so it makes sense to drive a relatively short distance to obtain comprehensive care under one roof.

Dr. Lewis in…read moreparticular is exceptionally caring, listens well, appreciates our concerns, answers our questions thoroughly and is typically very compassionate. Additionally, the staff is generally pleasant, conscientious and professional. But - and the but is substantial - Eagle Rock's policies seem to almost always necessitate expensive additional, many times unnecessary or repeatedly declined tests, shots and treatments. There has never been a "quick stop by for a vaccine" before boarding or "can you take a quick look at this" with Eagle Rock in the 5 years we've gone there. There is always an upsell for something additional. After a recent upsell on an annual exam only 7 months after the last annual exam, I calmly explained that the only reason we needed to come in was for the shots. I was told the recommendations were Eagle Rock's policy; I was offered a call back from Dr. Miller, who is listed as Eagle Rock's owner on their website. Dr. Miller called me back, and when I suggested we plainly acknowledge that for our 3 (rescued) pet household, Eagle Rock's veterinary practice management and visitation monetization strategy was starting to wear thin on us, Dr. Miller condescendingly denied even understanding what I meant by "upselling" or "practice management" (both core ideas presented at virtually every veterinarian trade show in existence - Google it). He then followed up with a parochial lecture on "standard of care" which implied irresponsibility on my part ("maybe you don't think your dogs require so many visits, but they age 4-5 years so we want to see them again") and - with the suggestion that I bring our dogs to Petco for vaccinations since "money is clearly an issue" - a cheap one as well. I ended the call with "Well clearly I have been 100% mistaken, nevermind". I can't remember exactly what couple of words Dr Miller said, but the unmistakable tone was "Yes, clearly *you* were mistaken." The customer doesn't always need to be right, but any business, if they don't agree with the customer, should at least acknowledge their opinions and experiences. But if a business chooses to belittle a customer, they won't be a customer for much longer. Have it your way, Dr. Miller. One less family of pets for you.

Although I am a physician I am not familiar with this procedure in canines, but apparently open incisions are used to cut into the bladder for stone removal. My. Baby girl was discharged in howling pain, which was traumatic for my sister who had retrieved her. She had to return her to demand appropriate pain management for the dog as she was only given gabapentin and Rimadyl (doggie Advil). Even women who have cesarean sections are given strong analgesia for at least 3 days postoperatively. My baby suffered for days. I called the office the following day to get information regarding her diet going forward, as bladder stones can definitely recur. Not only was I not given any information, but I was merely switched to another person who just asked for my financials to make payment for the "extra (much needed) meds." I was given a generic receipt, so my insurance denied the payment, and I was NEVER given the invoice for the surgery, which was almost 3k and paid in full up front. I sent an email requesting the invoice, and to date they refused to respond, so I will not be able to submit for the reimbursement. When my son called the office he was told that they "didn't know" about the insurance- even though it is on file. Although they claim they will submit, I don't have much faith that they will. Further, why was this not handled from the beginning before they tortured my baby? If a human patient is treated this way there are patient advocates & lawyers promptly involved. I guess things are different in Veterinary Medicine.... But animals deserve compassionate care, too. Some people love their pets more than their spouses. In addition, pet parents should be counseled regarding the operative course, what to expect, and how to manage their pets post-operatively at home. My family, and especially my dog, were traumatized by this experience. This vet got good reviews on Yelp for some reason; maybe they are acceptable for routine well care visits and minor illnesses. But if you have a pet with serious illness or require invasive or surgical intervention I encourage you to seek another Veterinary practice.

Dr. Dolin nd his team at Essex have been treating our pets for over four years. When it was time for us to get pet visas so that we could take them to France, we relied on them to help us. We were in great hands! We discussed what we wanted to do with Dr. Dolin several months in advance. He explained what the process was: vaccination requirements, the importance of properly timing them, the paperwork involved, how to best to prepare them for the trip and what to do during the trip to keep them comfortable. The office scheduled the vaccination and follow up appointments for us for all 4 pets. Once our pets had all of their vaccinations, Dr. Dolin filled out all of the paperwork and told us how we should post the applications to Albany. Everything went swimmingly. If you need passports, it is really important to work with a vet who is familiar with the process. Essex are pros at this!
