The Blue Piano - Tasty Tom Yam Soup

Walking around 18:30 in Birmingham looking for a place to eat is no easy task, as everything in…read morethis city closes at ridiculously early hours. So this is how I found The Blue Piano... because it was the only restaurant open. From the outside, it doesn't look like a restaurant, but more like a small office or hotel. The whole entrance and first look of it was quite intimidating because it looked like a place I could not afford. But surprisingly as I scanned the menu, the prices were reasonable. The waiter was helpful and attentive. The cuisine is Southeast Asian. I ordered the jackfruit and rambutan red curry and chicken ho fun. Both dishes were delicious and well seasoned. I have no complains during my experience and time here. Every factor from the list I consider important when eating in a restaurant (food, service, price, location, décor, and other random factors depending on how I feel on my day) was checked. This is the perfect restaurant to have dinner whenever you want to impress friends or that special someone, or you just want to feel posh even though you aren't. Highly recommended.

The venue itself is a little like being in someones house and the welcome you get in similar. So friendly! I asked for a Bloody Mary and despite it not being on the menu was made it no questions asked :) After a drink we decided to share one of the two sharing platters. It consisted of some sort of savory cake, top hats and chicken satays. Everything was honestly amazing....fresh and generally spot on. The star for me was the satay sauce...it was literally perfect. Just the right amount of spice! I am 100% going back for a full meal here asap so expect a full review. This is a great find and somewhere I will definitely be taking friends to.

My…read moreex-girlfriend and I got cheap flights and went over because we had heard great things about the country and always enjoyed cooking Thai food at home. I love Thai food even more now I have been to Thailand, and I have a good taste for authentic Thai cuisine. Siam Thai offers traditional Thai food for quite moderate prices. They restaurant in itself is small, comfy and not too gimmicky. I hate themed restaurants, they offer nothing but orientalist perceptions of what they think are cuisines and cultures. Siam Thai just concentrates on the food. It doesn't pretend to be something it is not, it simply just sells Thai food. I went for the Chicken Satay Thai style for my starter. I was hooked on chicken satay when I was in Thailand and this version of the dish did not disappoint. The peanut sauce was out of this world, it was simply perfect in its taste and texture. My main was the Kang Pet Kung, a Red curry cooked in coconut milk with red curry paste freshly prepared by blending fresh lemon grass, galangal, lesser ginger, garlic, shallots and red chilies garnished with sweet basil leaves. This intoxicated infusion was further complimented by being filled to the brim with juicy tiger prawns. It was quite simply the nicest meal I have had since I visited Thailand.

It seems not to seek out customers but have searching customers seek it out. I'm glad I did, well, not seek it out, but stumble across it more like. With no pretension at all my attention was entirely on the food. And the food is delicious. Lots of classic Thai dishes cooked with very fine ingredients resulting in a delicious a balanced outcome of rich, spicy yet light. With chicken Tom Yum to start and Prawn Mee Krop I was entirely satiated by the end of the meal. I have been to many restaurants proclaiming to serve authentic Thai cuisine but I think Siam overshadows them all with their food and service. Being just around the corner, I'm overjoyed I discovered it.

I visited Karaoke Box last night with a few of the Yelp Birmingham crew and was not disappointed…read more The many themed rooms make it hard to decide which space you want to use and cater to parties of three right up rooms that could easily take twenty. The rooms themselves are all comfortable with good karaoke equipment including wireless mics, touch screen tvs to select the music and large screens to display the lyrics to your chosen songs......obviously I could not resist a few diva number with Whitney and Cher being firm favourites from myself and Adam S! One really good thing about this place is that the bar prices are pretty standard and what you would expect from a normal bar/pub in the area. Usually places like this have stupidly high bar prices so that was pretty refreshing....and very welcome! If you are looking for a good night out with the boys, girls or whoever I would recommend heading to Karaoke box.....this place would be 100% perfect for birthdays, hen do's or people just looking for something that little bit different on the weekend :)

You aren't doing it right if your night out on Broad Street doesn't end with Chris Cornell-esque…read moreshredded vocal cords, hearing loss, and at least one video of you on Facebook doing something embarrassing. Fortunately I was able to tick off all of these at a recent Yelp Social event at Karaoke Box. The nascent venue is located off Broad Street in the Regency Wharf area. The space opens to a bar that stocks a moderate selection of beer and cider, several wines, and spirits. There is plenty of room in this lobby to hang out with friends while waiting on everyone to arrive. The Karaoke Box is laid out with two hallways, with private rooms on each side. Unlike pub karaoke, the only audience here is those you choose to witness your shame. Each room carries a theme, some that repeat on either hallway. The grand dame of the box is their large London Underground themed room that can fit a sizable crowd. Karaoke here is state-of-the-art, with lyrics displayed on large LED screens set into the wall. A control panel allows for the selection of songs. Their library is very comprehensive, and while lacking in the latest top 100, has pretty much any song from the naughts and before worth singing. Up to two mics work in each room, and vocal controls help disguise my crow like crooning. The venue hosts a limited food menu where you'll find a lot of fried from frozen snacks. Honestly, I would suggest eating before or after, as the foods are a bit overpriced and not too tasty. The bar prices are somewhat reasonable depending on what you order. Basic beers and wines are a value, but steer clear of the liquor. My time spent at the Karaoke Box was some of the most fun I've had in Brum so far this year. The prices to rent each room may cause sticker shock, but they aren't too bad when split evenly amongst friends. Overall, Karaoke Box is definitely worth a second look.
