There were two key things that I learned from attempting to hire Elite Movers. First, demand that…read moreany moving company you request a quote from completes an onsite visit to your home when providing the estimate. Second, ask the moving company specifically - will your team work in the rain? Key take aways for Elite Movers: - Do not hire this company if you are selling a home - Do not hire this company if you have a contract with a buyer - Do not hire this company if you are on a schedule - Do not hire this company if a rain delay will impact your sale - Do not hire this company if you want to work with a professional organization that will go the extra mile to make things right and ensure that the job is finished. What a disappointing experience we had with Elite Movers. The day of our scheduled move, I received a call from the foreman around 8:00AM stating that they were concerned about moving us that day because it was raining. They stated that they did not want our items to get wet. Understandable and greatly appreciated, but unfortunately, we did not have a choice. I explained that we were on a clock - the final walk through with the buyer was scheduled for 4:00PM that afternoon. The goal was to have the house empty before the final walkthrough and be ready for closing the next morning at 11:00AM. The foreman was totally understanding and said they would come to the house to see if there was a way to move us and keep our items dry. I was concerned that maybe this was the opinion of one person and that the company might not even realize this was the direction the conversation was going in. I called the company's phone number and spoke to Sean. I explained the situation and Sean immediately started side stepping my concerns and stated I needed to talk to a team member with Elite Movers. I realized that the 'sales team' that answers is actually an answering service that does not work for Elite Movers. They are booking agents. I asked to connect to a manager or owner with Elite Movers. I was transferred to Luc, who is a local Tallahassee resident and one of the founders of the company. I walked through the situation; we talked about the timeline, and I explained that our closing was approximately 24 hours away and we were under contract to sell the house. Luc explained our items would get wet in the rain and that if we wanted to move that day, we would have to sign a damage waiver. Not ideal - but better than nothing. The team arrived with two moving trucks and four movers around 8:30AM. They attempted to back the truck up the driveway and realized they did not have sufficient clearance to make it to the garage door. They told me they would not be able to help us. And left. I called Luc back and said 'your team just left'. Then the story changed. Luc explained that Elite Movers does not permit their employees to work in rain due to the potential for liability from a slip and fall. Keep in mind that now we've been told they can't move us because they don't want our stuff to get wet. Then it was signing a waiver. Now the story has changed a third time and they can't work in the rain. Red flags everywhere, but I'm getting that desperate sinking feeling in my stomach and trying to hold this deal together. My next thought is let's give them a chance to make this right. We started chatting about the options for moving during the afternoon. The weather app showed a break in the rain after 3:00PM. Luc explained that his weather app showed rain all day. Luc also explained that their team can't work past 5:00PM so they wouldn't be able to start a move out that late in the day. Luc offered the day after our closing as the next best option (entirely skipping over the day of closing). After we agreed that wouldn't work, it was very clear that Elite Movers was literally backing out of their agreement the day of the move. They were not willing to make it right, not willing to work late, not willing to start early, not willing to find a solution. And they seemed quite comfortable simply walking away. I asked for and received a cancelation notice from their system. Luckily, after 3 hours of making calls, we found out that there ARE professional moving companies in Tallahassee. These companies are NOT locally owned, they DO work in the rain, they DO work past 5:00PM, they WILL start a move late in the day, they WILL arrive early the next morning to finish the job, they CAN add extra movers, extra trucks, and extra equipment on short notice, and they ARE professionals at what they do. If these are the qualities you are looking for, call Browning Moving and Storage. They are a United Van Lines company based out of Lake City with an office in Tallahassee. Also - their trucks had sufficient clearance to back into the driveway up the steep hill. If any owners of Elite Movers read this, I would love to receive a phone call and talk through how poorly this experience went.

I am writing this as a public service announcement: Do not hire New Chapters Moving Company. What…read morestarted as a $579 quote turned into a $1,200+ disaster that left my belongings broken, my apartment half-empty, and my storage unit a dangerous mess. 1. Property Damage & Negligence The most devastating part of this move was the complete disregard for my electronics. I provided professional TV boxes with foam corners; instead, they shoved my TVs into two-piece boxes with the screens exposed. Now, both TVs are ruined. One screen is visibly shattered, and neither unit will even power on. They took "professional" equipment and treated it like trash. 2. Price Gouging & Bait-and-Switch This company practices predatory pricing. I was quoted $579. Once they had my items on their truck overnight, the owner demanded $1,260. I felt completely extorted. He offered a measly 10% "discount" when I complained, but the final price was still double the estimate for a job that wasn't even finished. 3. Chronic Unprofessionalism The movers arrived 1.5 hours late and spent the first 30 minutes on the phone with their boss. Despite having a reserved freight elevator and a storage unit only 4 miles away, they moved at a snail's pace. They went "radio silent" for over an hour while I waited for them at the storage facility, later claiming their phones "died." 4. Incomplete Work & Reckless Packing * Abandoned Items: They left numerous boxed-up items sitting right by my apartment door, forcing me to deal with the move myself after paying them over $1,100. * Storage Disaster: They packed my unit so poorly that I can only open the door six inches before items begin falling out. Sentimental items were crushed and broken because they lacked basic stacking skills. 5. Zero Accountability When I sent the owner photos of the damage, he spent 30 minutes on the phone defending his "professionalism" rather than offering a refund for the damaged TVs or the unfinished work. He is a smooth talker who takes no responsibility for his crew's incompetence. I had to hire another company to fix the mess he made. Save your money and your sanity. This company is dishonest, overpriced, and will break your expensive belongings.

A few days before the move, they called me and had me go over every little detail of everything that was being moved, etc. again even though I had already provided all that information. Still quoted around $500. Move ended up costing $1,200. They insisted on cling wrapping every single piece of furniture, even if it was already padded and then charging for those materials. One of the movers was excellent, fast and efficient even though he stopped for a few smoke breaks. Even he said everybody says that it's way more expensive when than what they were quoted. The other one was a trainee who damaged the new place, clearly didn't know what he was doing and worked at a snails pace compared to the more seasoned mover. I had to chase the company for the insurance to cover the cost of the damage to the wall, and they offered me a very small amount compared to the quote that I got from the painter. Would not recommend this company at all.

You could keep that money and invest on your employees' training who pack the natural flowers vase in a kitchen household box. I had a terrible experience with this moving company, and unfortunately, I am still dealing with the consequences more than two weeks later. On June 12, 2026, two movers arrived at 8:30 a.m. for my move. Shortly afterward, the company called and asked if they could send two additional movers to speed up the process. I trusted their recommendation and agreed. Around 2:00 p.m., I had to leave. Everything seemed to be going well until my wife, who was at our new home, called me after checking our security cameras. She noticed that two of the movers were standing around talking instead of working. Around the same time, my neighbor called to complain that the moving truck was blocking her driveway. I contacted the office, and they apologized. While these issues were frustrating, I considered them manageable. When the movers arrived at my new home, they asked me to pay before unloading, which I understood was their policy. They also informed me that I would be charged until 6:45 p.m. and that any unused time would be refunded if the job was completed earlier. The real problems began after the move was finished. One of the movers, who was professional and courteous throughout the day, informed me that my bed headboard had been damaged and showed me the damage. He also told me that the crew had finished one hour earlier than the time I was charged for. He called the office himself and advised me that I should receive a refund for one hour of labor for four movers ($240), plus an adjustment to the fuel charge, for a total refund of approximately $300. After the movers left, I immediately discovered that my brand-new 75-inch Samsung QLED TV had been severely damaged on the bottom-left corner. When I turned it on, half of the screen was black and unusable. This was a TV I had recently purchased so my family could enjoy watching the FIFA World Cup together. Today is June 27, 2026. More than 15 days after the move, I still have not received my final invoice, and I have not received the promised refund of approximately $300. I submitted a claim for both my damaged bed headboard and my TV. The settlement offer I received was not even enough to cover one-third of the TV's value. I did not accept or sign the settlement because I believe it is unfair and does not reflect the actual damage. I contacted customer service to dispute the settlement. After waiting on hold for nearly an hour, my call was disconnected. When I called back, I was told that my claim would be re-evaluated, but they made it clear that there was no guarantee the revised offer would be any closer to the actual value of my loss. The representative repeatedly told me that the settlement was based on the contract I signed, which compensates customers according to the weight of the damaged items rather than their actual value. My response was simple: I trusted this company. I trusted them when they asked to add two more movers to my job. I trusted them to handle my belongings with care. I never expected that they would damage my brand-new TV and then tell me that its value was determined by its weight. I also requested my invoice. I was transferred to another department, where I was told they were short-staffed and that my invoice would be sent the following day. That was over a week ago, and I still have not received it. More than two weeks after my move, I still don't have my invoice, I haven't received the promised refund, and my claim remains unresolved. This entire experience has completely broken my trust in this company. From the damaged property and broken promises to the lack of communication and poor customer service, I have spent more time chasing answers than enjoying my new home. Based on my experience, I don't recommend this company.
