I have a great passion for history and enjoy delving into my family's heritage. Visiting rural…read morecemeteries is a normal pursuit for me, but this particular cemetery is situated in a secluded area on private land. Fortunately, in Tennessee, there are no restrictions on visiting ancestral cemeteries located on private property. Generally, as a rule of thumb, I do try and get permission. When coming to Moore Cemetery, don't bring a low vehicle. It is much better to bring a jeep, truck, or SUV with a 4-wheel drive, especially since this is really out in the elements with mud and gravel. The cemetery's also a little off of the road, so you'll need good outdoor shoes that can handle the dirt. This specific cemetery holds a special place in my heart due to the abundance of intriguing stories behind those interred here. There's an 1812 patriot, a man who met a tragic end for stealing whiskey from his friend and then his brother, who later married his widow, raised a large family. The most interesting part? I'm a direct descendant of all of these people. Moore Cemetery is in Henderson County near Dogwood Lake. When you go here, put in the coordinates of 35.7175827, -88.2300515 to get to the location or find it on Google Maps. I put it there a few years ago, and I'm glad I did. That was the first time I had gone there. If you're a taphophile, then you will enjoy this excursion. This cemetery is another captivating stop among the many rural cemeteries and graveyards scattered throughout Henderson County, TN.

Grandfather is buried here, as his entire extended family, the Moore's. The cemetery is secluded and hard to get to, due to this man blocking the road way and destroying the easement to it. I've noticed that others have been there, seeing fresh flowers on a few gravestones at times. Rest assured you are not the only ones dealing with this man.

I've never met more caring people who would go out of their way and stay late at work for a complete stranger. I was able to get that one last goodbye with my mom. I wasn't going to ask to see her but something told me that I needed to and I'm so glad I did. A little weight was lifted from my heart after getting to see her; she looked so peaceful and finally at rest. I'm so glad Neal and Shane were able to give that to me. They both went above and beyond with their love and compassion for my mom, as well as being able to show me love and compassion in my darkest hours. It's a treasure to meet people like them and I'll forever cherish both of them! I cannot thank them enough!

McCall Cemetery is a historical family burial ground situated on McCall Road. While no direct…read moredescendants of the original McCall family remain, local residents generously maintain the cemetery by mowing the grounds and tending to its upkeep. Unfortunately, a recent storm caused several grave stones, some dating back to the mid-19th century, to topple over. Efforts are being made to gather funds for their eventual replacement, but progress is ongoing. Some of my ancestors are laid to rest in McCall Cemetery, including Joseph Reed Jr., the son of Henderson County's earliest white settler. His father arrived in 1817 and brought the family to the area in 1818. An intriguing story has been passed down, suggesting that Joseph Reed Sr. left his first two sons, William and Jack, in the care of the Cherokee people who lived in the area during a winter season while he went to fetch the rest of the family in Georgia. Upon his return, Joseph was accompanied by his wife, Polly, my ancestor Joseph Jr., his two daughters, and an undisclosed number of enslaved individuals. It's important to note that, as far as records indicate, there are no enslaved individuals buried in the cemetery, but efforts are also being made to find who they were and where they are laid to rest. This cemetery is easily accessible. It is right off of McCall Road, but there is no parking. I suggest coming here on a day that the road and grass are dry so you don't get stuck in the mud. I'm guilty of this happening to me a time or two.
