Prior to my appointment in January I received an email describing the new location - a building with a secure entrance, a welcome change from her old location. When I arrived Bri welcomed me into her new space. It was light and cheery. She explained the service I had requested, color, and she did an amazing job! The color was natural and blended with my own hair color while adding depth at the same time. I wish I had taken photos. Daydream Salon was a refreshing change from the previous Salon she worked at, Thairapy PDX. Not only was her environment bright and airy, but Bri was happy!! I made an appointment for my daughter to get extensions and color, review to follow. I will say my daughter was very pleased and looks even more beautiful! (I am a Mom after all.). However, it just wasn't. She was nice enough, but the talk of her experience made me feel like there was more talk than walk. She also told me stories of people who didn't like her approach and/or cutting technique in the past. Why disclose that information? Why talk about negative experiences from prior clients. Then there was the cutting...it was over in about 20 minutes. Anyone who's had a real Deva Cut knows it takes much longer than that to employ the technique correctly. Although she cut my hair dry, she said she would pull apart and cut every curl separately, that didn't happen. She even cut several sections of my hair straight across with no attention to how the curls fell. Who cuts curls straight across?? At the end of the appointment, she said, "I can tell you're uncomfortable, so just call me and come back to fix any issues. Do Not Attempt to fix it yourself." Sorry, but no...I won't go back. At 6 weeks post appointment I was left with a messy grow-out of inconsistent curls. Boo. Don't go. There's got to be a better stylist out there for your curls.

We confirmed the time and place again one week prior. She was an hour late for my hair trial, then cancelled entirely (morning of) a week later for my scheduled haircut. Then, she didn't show up on my wedding day. After calling/texting for 30 minutes after she was supposed to be there, she said she had a sick dog and couldn't make it. Just a heads up to any future brides.

I upgrade each time to the light therapy facial which is an hr & half for $20 more & you can add extraction for $5. Most of the time is spent just under the light. At one point, during the 1st facial, I thought maybe she forgot about me. I like that she offers the paraffin treatment for your hands and can turn the bed massager on if you want it. The massager just vibrated & when she went to put my hands back under the blanket, after the paraffin removal, it was thrown not gently placed. The heat pads on my tummy & around my neck were nice touches. She has a lot of knowledge about products which is nice but when I get facials I'm one of those people who like complete silence. I mentioned that I'd let her do her stuff & just fall asleep a couple of times & she did eventually get it. I get weekly facials & massages so I compare the experiences to different salons/spas. My 3 star rating just means the treatment was good but not exceptional & needs improvement. Most facials do offer paraffin for hands, extraction, aromatherapy, massage for face, neck & shoulders (some even offer massage for feet) while the mask is setting. So esthetician never leaves the room. Average cost is $50-$60. Her treatments (chemical peels, microdermabrasion, light therapy etc) are priced high but she does offer pre-paid packages that make them less.

After the facial, my skin felt so light weight and soft. I had a couple people comment on how nice it looked! She also does optional extractions for your facial, which I of course wanted. Carrie is one of those rare talents. Before meeting her, getting my haircut was always a…read morenightmare. She was the first person which whom I could just sit down and say "make it look good." She started her career when she founded the 220 salon across the alley from Berbati. With Carrie, you never have to really give instructions unless you have specifics in mind. The best way to work with a really talented artist is to just let them do their thing. This is where she shines. I believe she has the intuition and skills to give anyone the correct haircut without having to tell her what to do. Carrie had extensive training in NYC and it shows. When she moved away for a couple years, I had to use other people so I got experience with other good hairdressers. One other main strongpoint is that Carrie's haircuts grow in incredibly well. This is the mark of a true professional. A mediocre hairdresser will leave you with bad hair days after 3-4 weeks. It is not uncommon for her clients to go 5-6 months depending on their hairstyle, between cuts. There are times when it appears her cuts are on the short side. Just wait a week or two and you quickly realize that she knew exactly what she was doing and her haircuts grow out amazingly well. Carrie is a longtime favorite of many Portland rockstars and fashionistas so don't be afraid to give her a try.
