Attended a student art show last night with a friend who teaches a class at PCA. There were so fantastic pieces created by the adult students. In addition of course there were other exhibits that we were able to tour. When I was in art school this was a place we visited often. Time to get back in the swing of things. The gift shop is still fantastic and filled with lots of unique items.

After brunch at Square cafe we needed to take a little walk and absorb some rays. It is a very serene setting and once they get the fountain running I may just come to sit and ponder. The building is so big and they offer many summer art classes so check out the website to see what they have. Events are held here all summer, mostly weddings. I went in to see the printmaking lab, I mostly do screenprinting but they don't have the light tables or screens here. The receptionist was so helpful and said that there would be printmaking classes over the summer and to call one of the directors to see what they might be able to do for me in regards to the type of medium I want to work with. If you need a place to do intaglio or relief printing they have a great space to print!

If you're looking for a fun and messy time at a splatter paint room then you should check out…read morePrimal Pigment! We had reservations for Sunday afternoon at 1pm. After choosing what paint colors we wanted, we put on protective gear, picked out our high energy playlist, watched a safety video, and went into the black-light-illuminated room. We got a bunch of paint and fun things like paint filled ballons and paint guns to splatter. We had such a BLAST throwing paint on our canvases (and ourselves)! It was such a unique and creative experience and I highly recommend it. And if you're worried about getting your painting home in one piece, no need to worry because they provide painting sized boxes for easy transportation! Some tips from me to make your experience easier: 1) There are protective glasses and face shields available. I recommend wearing contacts and then going for the glasses. 2) There's protective cases for your phone so you can bring it in and not get paint all over it which I recommend doing! At some point I sent my phone down and just recorded us for 10+ minutes and it was so funny. 3) While do you have disposable protective gear on, be warned that any excessive amounts of paint will eventually seep though (I opted to wear just socks inside the suit and the bottom of my socks had paint all over them at the very end). I highly recommend wearing lots of black underneath your suit!

Had a lot of fun here! I wasn't sure what I was getting myself into and the experience turned out…read moreto be a blast. The "paint masters" made the process simple, and showed us how to get the protective gear ready (and yes you can cover up your phone while still being able to use it in the room). We got to take home our canvases and I would totally come back with a bigger group of friends. Be sure to make a resy!

The merchandise includes jewelry (e.g., necklaces, earrings, bracelets, and pins), apparel (e.g., gloves, hats, t-shirts, onesies, and bibs), bath products (e.g., soaps, beard balm, aftershave, and shower steamers), foods (e.g., olive oil, vinegar, seasonings, and dog and cat treats), stationery (e.g., stickers, greeting cards, and magnets), and home decor (e.g., candles, coasters, prints, and knick-knacks). I bought one pierogi magnet for five dollars. This magnet sticks well to my refrigerator in my kitchen, and it looks cute.

Their jewelry is locally hand made and goes anywhere from traditional to whimsical motifs including Harry Potter, Disney, Hamilton the musical, mosaics, and even dried flowers! Their booth only carries a limited selection of what's in the store where they have partnered with local food vendors such as Olive and Marlowe, as well as other Pittsburgh vendors to sell you almost anything. You can find stickers, clothing, caps, coasters, keychains, soap, candles and so much more! I was able to chat with Jenny who is one of the owners of the business who told me that they offer various craft classes in the store as well as unique themed parties such as Harry Potter for kids. If attending a class is not your bag because of the pandemic then on occasion you can purchase a craft kit in store and arrange for a Zoom class on a particular day to make your craft. They are very flexible when is comes to meeting people exactly where they are. You can find most anything on their website. Have something in particular in mind? Just contact them and they will accommodate your every need. During my visit I picked up two pairs of earrings with surgical steel backs. Jenny gave me some rubber stoppers with my purchases to insure they won't get lost. I purchased a pretty teardrop stud earring set and the Hamilton inspired earrings. I'm all set to enjoy one of my favorite Broadway musicals-"Hamilton." I also learned they do "Wicked the musical" jewelry if you are fond of that show. It's a great place to buy local made arts and crafts showcasing Pittsburgh. Although they are based in Lawrenceville across from Children's hospital, you may run into this business at various events with the last one I saw them at was VegFest. They were also at Picklesburg. Jenny told me that If I ever make to the shop itself the cheapest parking is at Children's Hospital across the street for $3.00. Not a bad deal if you are looking for parking in the area. Will be looking forward to visiting their store this fall to check out their other offerings.
