What a wonderful gem located in the Mexican war streets on the north side! I am always looking for a fun yet creative activity that I can partake in whether it'd be a solo out or with a group, and the War Street Art Salon is the perfect spot! I enjoyed a lovely Saturday afternoon there as a solo date to partake in the craft cafe. The salon provides a menu of craft choices and I went with the dried flower and candle making. The staff is very welcoming, warm and inviting! They provide you with a brief overview of the craft and give you a few tips and trick to make the most of your experience. The cost of the activity is perfectly set as you get to have an experience and get to take home a custom gift. Cannot recommend this place enough for the craft cafe, workshops or to host your private event there. Can't wait to go back!

It was something we have always wanted to do, but it always sold out before we had the chance to. As the glass blowing experience approached, I took the day off work and we coordinated an entire day around the session. We were very excited to go. On September 27th, we received our confirmation email reminding us of our upcoming session. On September 29th at 3:07 pm, we received an automatic cancellation email that our appointment had been cancelled and we needed to reschedule. The email provided no explanation for the cancellation. There was no additional email sent and no contact attempted by phone. Confused, my boyfriend tried the number provided and left a message. He also sent a Facebook message. Concerned, I called the company as well and after 2 calls, reached Janine (spelling?). She explained that they didn't receive the glass supplies needed for the session and that they were cancelling all sessions on Saturday and all sessions on Sunday. I asked if they were going to reschedule or offer an additional session for those who have already signed up. I was informed that I could reschedule after January 1st, 2018 because the rest of the pumpkin workshops were booked. I mentioned that a glass pumpkin wouldn't really do me much good in January and she agreed. I asked if we could come another time instead. She told me that she would speak with the guys who run the workshops and call me back. She didn't seem concerned and it was like she was caught off guard by my questions. On October 4th, I still hadn't heard back. I called the company again and left a voicemail for Janine asking for a return call. Today is October 10th. I just attempted to reach Janine again and it went to her voicemail. I left another message, but it's been 11 days since our first conversation. I don't have high hopes that she will call me back. I understand that things happen. I'm not sure why supplies weren't ordered ahead of time (since we booked 2+ months prior and they had already had a weekend of workshops), but even then I can understand that it might have been out of their control. I'm not an expert in glass supplies, but I would imagine that there has to be more than 1 supplier. All of that aside, there is absolutely no excuse for how it has been handled. I would expect a phone call or email explanation for the cancellation. As a customer, I shouldn't have to make numerous attempts to find out if it was cancelled intentionally or in error. When called, I would expect that a business do everything it can to accommodate those that were cancelled. An additional session could have been opened for those who were still interested in attending a workshop. Ironically, Vessel Studio Glass has a 48 hour cancellation policy in which you will forfeit 100% of your session fee if you cancel within 48 hours of your appointment. They provided only 24 hour cancellation notice to us and were not apologetic in any way. They also did absolutely nothing to try and make it right. I am extremely disappointed with my experience and wish that we would have had the opportunity to attend the workshop that we signed up for.

One of the best rooms in this space is a walk-in installation that feels like entering another world: maybe another planet, maybe another plane of reality, maybe a hidden portion of your own subconscious. In this room you will find a series of tubes, television screens, and neon lights, as well as a battered, graffitied copy of A.A.'s Living Sober that serves as a guest book, illustrating the ethos that nothing is sacred and everything is free game for the act of creation by collage. There is also an absolutely SICK piano keyboard that literally anyone is free to walk in and play with in this trippy, beautiful little alien room. Redfishbowl will take you to another dimension!

Having this place within literal walking distance of my apartment was the best. It's an absolute powerhouse of a collective where the vibe is brilliantly chaotic and endlessly welcoming. On any given night, you can wander in and find yourself surrounded by a wild mix of local art, ranging from moody, glow-in-the-dark multimedia installations to stunning contemporary paintings and custom apparel. But it's not just a gallery; it's a living, breathing community hub. I've walked over for everything from super chill community yoga sessions and intensely focused figure drawing classes to packed open mics, live band showcases, and the legendary Lawrenceville Art Crawl after-parties. Having such a kaleidoscope of local talent, music, and performance just a short stroll away made me feel incredibly spoiled; it's the definitive beating heart of the neighborhood's art scene.

There was a nice assortment of things to choose from including fingerless gloves and beautiful pottery mugs. They told me if I want to see more then head into the store. I did just that and got to meet up with the owner Eva and learn more about the business. Various artists from all over the country contribute their wares to this shop and some are even local. You can find most anything here from crafted "aliens" to wooden Nativity sets to various types of jewelry, glass, pottery and of course beautiful paintings that adorn the walls. Even Eva herself has some of her own works for sale here. There is so much to look at. She also told me some of the artists do charitable work and you can purchase things such as "cuff" bracelets that will signify the artist who created the piece. The drink mugs were beautiful and some of them had Bible verses on them. I was admiring a green one with a flower on the handle and then I learned that she hoped to get more selection in from this seller within the next week or so. I decided to hold off on my purchase until I saw what was coming in. Some of the merchandise can be pricey but it all depends up the work that is put into them. For example an artist, she was selling had hand drawn images of a few of Pittsburgh's landmarks as a cuff bracelet. It's a bit pricey but she told me all the labor that goes into making the design can be time consuming. They offer workshops and events from time to time. Most of the art is contemporary style with at least 20 different artists in emerging to mid career levels. Check out their on line shop if you want to learn more or make a purchase directly from your home. This shop is currently open Thurs-Sun only and of course you can walk in when the farmer's market is going on. Am definitely planning to return here so I can browse more of the collection. Situated on Main St near the Carnegie Coffee company, metered street parking is available across the street.
