Coming here was kinda confusing as I had to look to the walkway to find my way to the shore line so walking down the path was fun and interesting all to its own and with the beach at the end I was all for it! The beach is long and has a way for cars to drive down the middle of it seeing this was kinda a trip to me as I'm not used to cars driving on the beach as you just don't see that in many places outside or Mexico. This spot was definitely a locals spot as I can tell I didn't fit in here which is one of the main reasons I went here as those are generally the best beaches. The beach was right and the time I spent here was awesome I really couldn't have asked for more. Overall super cool spot that has a handful of parking spots right next to the trail and just a ton of beach for you to enjoy. With that said who knows when or if I'll get back here again but let's just say I'll always have another beach day somewhere.

We found our way into the end of the boardwalk & happily shared the boardwalk with pedestrians, families & little kids with scooters! It left us off NEAR the beach-there is some walking still to get to the other side of the beach road in soft sand. Had a nice conversation with a whale watcher stationed at the end of the walkway. Be like the locals & check out Ocean Hammock Park Walkway!

The pavilion was nice and covered perfect for our big picnic! Right next to us was the bathrooms, shop, and little restaurant. We were able to change easily into our bathing suits to go swim at the beach and my friend was even able to buy a bikini from the store since she forgot one - so convenient! The beach is beautiful and the water is stunning, be prepared to walk across a lot of sand to get to the water part. After swimming, we went to get some ice cream from the shop, and I got a root beer float, which was good. Overall, such a nice time!

It was definitely windy, but honestly it didn't take away from the experience at all. If anything it made the waves more fun to watch and kept things from getting too hot. The playground was a big hit with the kids. They had a great time running around and burning off energy while we relaxed nearby. It's one of those spots where both adults and kids can enjoy themselves without feeling cramped or bored. Between the scenery, the clean beach, and the family friendly setup, this is an easy five star stop. Would come back again without thinking twice.

My parents and I came here for a Black History Month event as they are commemorating the month with the flight of freedom. This is a journey of how enslaved people came to Fort Mose to obtain freedom. I only knew of this place as the Underground Railroad, based on my ancestry, knowing that my ancestors came from the Carolinas and Georgia down to this area, but I learned so much more in the short period of time I was there. This particular weekend showcase a reenactment, and teaches the story of individuals who trekked the long and perilous paths to be free from enslavement. From different stops with a real Yamasee Indian who was the chief of the tribe. He gave us a deep and in depth history of the Yamasee Indians and their role in the flight to freedom. During the reenactment, we made different stops along the way and the end we got to watch a demonstration of the soldiers shooting and firing off the canon. It was a very emotional experience and much needed - we need to learn from the past and continue to teach this type of history. Before the experience, my parents and I did have the opportunity to stop into the visitor center, which cost about $2. It definitely gives a timeline of events during the start of colonization and Florida, however it also has a lot of artifacts that were discovered in Saint Augustine from the 1700s and onward. Definitely make a stop here while visiting the city!

I prefer to stand. I'm glad I chose to for this event. It was my first time there. I didn't realize there was an area where you would park your vehicle about two blocks down the road and then they shuttle you in. That was pretty nice. No waiting for that. I would go there again and enjoy the historical state park as well.

Problem is- signage isn't very clear on how to get to the parking lot for the park! The directional sign on the road says "Sculpture Park" with a right arrow- and if you make the next turn you are sitting in front of the police station. Which is where we parked and walked down the sidewalk on A1A to get to the park. Turns out- there is a back exit to the parking lot at the police station that goes down a road and dead ends into the parking lot for the park. Who knew?- not this woman! Oh well- the Lakeside Park/Veteran's Memorial/Sculpture Garden park has a large round memorial to all of the service branches- very pleasing to the eye. In the center is the American Flag and the POW flag below it. There is a board walk along the lake- which provides a wonderful view of turtles! I'm sure you could see some birds too- depending on the time of day. The path winds South and is adorned with a variety of sculptures- hence "Sculpture Garden". I think my favorite was the one that looked like a Phoenix- although there were several that caught my eye. Plenty of shade, benches and art! Oh Well- the big sign at the Southwest corner of the park said Lakeside Park, Veteran's Memorial Park.

The trail is…read moreoften overshadowed by it's big brother trail, Graham Swamp, a popular MTB trail just many miles South, where most riders tends to ride more. So what is so special about Mala Compra then? Well, Mala Compra is considered a blue rated trail (intermediate). It has 5.5 miles that loops its perimeter. Along the loops, you will encounter 24 Technical Features, which you can either attempt or bypass entirely. The loop itself is an easy trail. It becomes a challenging loop the more Technical Features you tackle. The loop is great for Intermediate or Advance Beginner riders. Mala Compra, in comparison to Graham Swamp Trail, is a more tamed trail....BUT...BUT... as Sir Bike-A-Lot would say "I like Big BUT and I cannot lie..."... what makes up for Mala Compra's hype is a trail called CLOUD 9. CLOUD 9 is a Double Black Diamond trail that you will find inside Mala Compra's loop. The trail is littered with black diamond (very difficult) and double black diamond (most difficult) trails. CLOUD 9 happens to be one of my favorite trails. It has been the most technical trail I've ridden to date. This is a "Proceed with Caution" type trail. Not that it's dangerous trail, but it just requires alot of balance and technique riding some of its obstacles and features. This is a trail where you do not want to get overzealous with either. One false move and it's SPLAT!!! Some CLOUD 9's features, I am humble enough to say that I will never dare try; I know my limits. But if you're up for the challenge, then be my MTB guest. Additionally, Mala Compra Trails is situated nearby a cool county park called Bing's Landing. Great scenery, has a boat ramp and a cool BBQ joint called Captain's BBQ, which makes for great post-biking feasting. And if you prefer hiking, there's a trail for you inside Mala Compra too. What more can you ask for?

We made the trip south of St. Augustine to ride our fat tire bikes on the trails. We aren't beginners but we aren't experts either and the blue trail was perfect for our level of ability. There were some technical aspects on the trail but each one had an option to go around it. There is an option to ride a more technical trail called Cloud 9 but we didn't venture onto it. We'll definitely go back because we weren't able to ride all of the trails. Bonus - there's a great barbecue restaurant across the street from the trails so after you've worked up an appetite you can grab a bite to eat!
