Every minute of the class has a special activity -- different songs, activities, etc. They have drums, scarves, fun lights for a dance party, a lullaby to end with, etc. The teacher we have is super positive and allows kids to truly express themselves and interpret the activities however they want. I've enjoyed meeting the parents here too and all have been super nice. We did a trial with a friend and immediately signed up.

I LOVE this studio - Nica was an awesome instructor (she's also the studio owner), and I immediately felt welcomed and like pottery was something I could do. The studio has a way of drawing in wonderful people and creating such a warm, welcoming atmosphere - everyone is so helpful and kind and you really can build a community here. I had such a great time during my first 8 week class that I've ended up signing up again and again for more 8 week classes -- I'm on my 4th one now (these last 3 sessions have had Jeff as the instructor and he's also fantastic!) -- and I've brought my husband with me for us to do a one night class for Valentine's day. We've even got plans to come back with our friends the next time they're in town.

After I finished my practice pace, I made a stained glass Christmas box with a ribbon on it. Photo below! Her studio is in her basement; it is very well appointed with high ceilings and all the safety equipment that you need for working with glass. Her classes are small, so everyone gets individual attention and support! My granddaughter (age 28) had been there before; she designed and made her own 10"panel with over 20 pieces of glass! The first picture shows the two pieces that I made, the second one is my granddaughter's. 10 out of 10 I would highly recommend Liz and the Glass Patch. If this 77-year-old grandmother can do it, so can you! It was a terrific experience!

I'd run into an issue but I called the studio, and the woman who answered was super friendly. Karlee, the instructor, was very patient and welcoming. She gave all instructions clearly and made sure we all were caught up before moving on to the next, and still ended the class on time. Their drink menu is great and we all loved the mimosas. The studio is very beautiful with all past paintings on the wall. I was also impressed by the size of the studio. I was told that they need at least 3 people to sign up to run a class, so make sure you grab a few friends and go there!!

At some point I guess we ran short of time because the instructor sped up severely. None of the painters were anywhere near the stage that she was talking about. She kept saying don't worry I'll repeat it. Well the repeating was a quick listing of all the things we should be doing, with no chance of actually doing those... like reading a grocery list very quickly. And the urgency that we need to take a group picture now and we could finish our paintings after taking the picture. This gave us about 3 minutes as they were taking our paints and brushes... basically kicking us out the door... that really left a bad taste and ruined the whole night. I understand that the employees would like to go home, but can we maybe have a steady pace instead of waiting for the next step in the beginning and then sprint at the end.

We started by picking out our paint colors and then learning how to properly combine them to get ready to put on our board. They showed us different examples of how we could pour the paint to come up with different designs/looks. It is so cool to see how many different ways you could take your creation. It was so cool to see the finished product from the day and I'm even more excited to see how it looks once they finish their work (I think the boards get a resin finish and not sure what else!) We had Tara and she helped make the experience super fun. She helped with paint combinations and also gave thorough instructions throughout, so we felt confident when we had to put paint to canvas. The owner was in the studio as well and she was so friendly and enjoyable to talk to while working on our art. I feel like there could be so many cool combinations, and I wanna come back to make another project in the future! They do take walk-ins as long as there is availability, but you can book online to ensure they are ready for you. Highly recommend checking this place out!!

Art With a Heart is a non-profit with a mission to provide hands-on visual arts experience to educate and inspire at-risk children. My experience began when I signed my daughter up for Re-Generation Indy, a group of local artists that lead affordable art workshops and host Youth Art Shows around Indianapolis, using this space. For only $5, your child can spend a couple of hours getting creative and expanding their mind through with others. A Youth Art Show is scheduled on March 4th to highlight work done by participants in the program. We were roaming around the school thanking the teachers, learning about what the students accomplished during the summer and looking at art work when we were approached by a man. He asked if Gylani (my little 4 year old at that time) would like to continue her art program and that the art class she had during camp actually offered honors Saturday classes. I looked at her dad...we shrugged and signed her up...that was 2004-2005.... Gylani is now 14 and a starting freshman at North Central...and she is also a honors student at Art With a Heart. The knowledgeable caring teachers, the ability to work with different mediums of art, field trips and the family atmosphere has kept our family in the Art with a Heart Program. This not very well known program, this gem, deserves your support and if you know a child, especially one from a low-income household that loves art but doesn't have the resources to attend expensive costly classes, this is the organization for that child. The child will grow, be nurtured, be inspired and be taught how to be confident in their skills.

She taught 8 of us, some first-timers, others had some experience, but she made getting messy a dream come true for me. I'm so glad my daughter in law gifted me this experience as a Christmas gift last year. The classes fill up super quick, but man, was this truly worth the wait!!!!
