I am not sure how I've never been to this studio before for painting with friends. Their calendar is great and I was easily able to buy tickets online. I'd run into an issue but I called the studio, and the woman who answered was super friendly. Karlee, the instructor, was very patient and welcoming. She gave all instructions clearly and made sure we all were caught up before moving on to the next, and still ended the class on time. Their drink menu is great and we all loved the mimosas. The studio is very beautiful with all past paintings on the wall. I was also impressed by the size of the studio. I was told that they need at least 3 people to sign up to run a class, so make sure you grab a few friends and go there!! read more

Went to paint a cute Santa Claus picture with my adult daughter. At first it was easy to follow the instructions and we were having fun. It was slow going though. At some point I guess we ran short of time because the instructor sped up severely. None of the painters were anywhere near the stage that she was talking about. She kept saying don't worry I'll repeat it. Well the repeating was a quick listing of all the things we should be doing, with no chance of actually doing those... like reading a grocery list very quickly. And the urgency that we need to take a group picture now and we could finish our paintings after taking the picture. This gave us about 3 minutes as they were taking our paints and brushes... basically kicking us out the door... that really left a bad taste and ruined the whole night. I understand that the employees would like to go home, but can we maybe have a steady pace instead of waiting for the next step in the beginning and then sprint at the end. read more

Please say that louder for the folks in the back. We're listening.* I signed up about one or two weeks ago for the cute Sanderson sisters gnome painting event. Super excited! However, I tested positive for Covid and the event is today. I have a major sore throat and a cough. Because of that cough, I asked to reschedule to another event or maybe when this one is offered again. She told us no. Less than 24 hour notice, you get a kit, and written instructions to do it at home. She absolutely was not willing to work with us. Just incredibly selfish. Unbelievable. We spent $82 for a special night out, the whole point is doing it in person! I'm a visual learner, I cannot do this with "written instructions". I'm never doing booking with her again. We've given her a lot of business, even had our daughter's birthday party there. I am so disappointed and angry. read more

Last year, my mother in law and I painted Grinch porch leaners. We were both a little nervous for the pacing of the instructions, as we are not the most artistic, but the pacing was perfect. Our instructor, Kat, explained every step perfectly and made us feel at ease with our project. The wine based drinks were delicious, although small, so keep that in mind. Jessica who taught the class was great, which is why this isn't a 1/5. There was another woman there (heavier set with short white hair) that was rude and condescending. She conducted the candle making "class" and didn't let people mix/match scents, which is the whole point... she said pick just one scent. We've done similar classes before and they let you mix/match. She was also very condescending with questions, the kind of person who intentionally takes your question out of context to give you a condescending answer. She treated adults like elementary school children. We won't be going back. Thank god there was alcohol or I would have left from the rude woman's behavior. Update to Peggy's condescending answer: Thanks for the condescending answer Peggy! "I am sorry you found the step by step instructions condescending" lol. I NEVER said "step by step" or implied such. You're putting words in my mouth to again, be condescending. May I remind you of this conversation with you? You: Jessica will take your drink order "Where do I order drinks?" -You: With Jessica (she's standing 15' behind you) "Ok, but do I order them back there (where Jessica is standing) or there (me pointing to classroom)? -You (rudely): No, that's Jessica. (Pointing at Jessica) You order them with Jessica. (Jessica steps in and nicely says she'll take our orders in the classroom.) You say your scents are "premixed." What do you mean by that? Lol. What are we paying for? There's no creativity in just taking a singular scent and pouring it into a cup of wax. We are not children. Also, your scents are not "premixed." They're singular scents that can easily be mixed together. I'm going to start a build your own burger joint: I'll give everyone the same beef patty and they get to pick what bread to put it on. How exciting! Maybe your painting class should be a premade painting and we just sign our names to it! Maybe you give us all blank canvases and a big sticker to slap on there! Where do you draw the line? You did not say we can pick more than one scent. In fact, you were again quite condescending by saying multiple times "if you cannot pick one, and you must pick two, don't blame us if they don't mix well, but you really must pick just one." You repeated this or an iteration of multiple times. No fun... Let me give you some advice. Don't ever say to a customer "I'm sorry you feel...." that's condescending. It's pretty obvious my review is accurate based on that alone, and you putting words in my mouth. It would have been better to say, "I'm sorry we didn't live up to your expectations and I appreciate your feedback and the time you spent to share it with us. We will strive to make the experience more enjoyable by responding to your feedback. Please give us another opportunity some time." read more

Painting With A Twist is located at the opposite end of J.C. Penny's strip center on Michigan Road. Easy to find with ample parking in the large parking lot. As I entered I followed the line of folks arriving to check in at the back counter. Here, I was greeted, checked in, and received that scary blank canvas. I have one watercolor class under my belt but this is my first acyrlic class. Nervous! To say the least!! Six eight-foot tables are arranged by 2's in 3 rows with 20 students per group of tables. It seemed like a lot of students for one instructor but she was available to all who needed assistance. Today we were painting a beautiful landscape scene. The instructor broke down each step, even each brush and provided detailed instructions. She came around to assist those requesting help and provided suggestions on how to improve the painting. She was great! I learned a great deal that I can apply toward my next class. Several people were there to celebrate birthdays, a few were having girls night out and a group for a bridal shower were coming in next for a private event. The website lists the age group for each class, mine was 15 and up. No children, toddlers or babies are allowed in the adult classes. They have separate classes for Family Day and Kids events. The online calendar is well marked and color coded for public events or private events. Fun entertainment for a Date Night class or a bachelorette party, baby or wedding shower, birthdays or a girls night out. You can even create a special keepsake painting for the event. How cool is that? Snacks and beverages, including wine, are reasonably priced and available for purchase. Pre-packaged food and non-alcoholic drinks in a unopened container may be brought in. Valid ID is required for anyone purchasing alcohol. Grab a friend, or go solo, and paint your own masterpiece. I had a great time and I'm looking forward to my next class. read more

I absolutely LOVE Painting With A Twist. Painting used to intimidate me but not anymore. I first went on November 10 to celebrate my birthday and try something new and was amazed. The classes are all fun and the instructors are all amazing. They explain everything to you so well and are patient with you. They even come around and help you and give you suggestions on how to make that painting of your pop! I have been there 4 times in the month of November alone and I already have one class booked for December. I appreciate the fact that they have rewards points as well as free SOS classes so that you can go back and fix paintings if you get home and see changes you want to make. The painting instructor did a great job and provided a great experience. My issue was with the woman who checked us in. After informing us that we couldn't have outside drinks, which is understandable, my wife explained that she needs to have access to water due to a medical condition. Her response was that they have water for sale, which is like saying "you can only have your medical necessity if you pay us first." My wife took one last drink of her water bottle before handing it to me to take to the car, and the woman got an attitude with her. The attitude continued after I pointed out that she was just taking a last drink before I take the bottle to the car as instructed. At this point the only reason I didn't demand a refund and leave it because my children were with us and excited to do the painting. This whole situation could have and should have been handled so much better. I personally don't agree with forcing disabled customers to pay for access to water, but if there is a good reason it must be done this way then am actual explanation would have gone a long way. Simply saying "no outside drinks allowed in the studio" in a nasty tone wasn't helpful. read more

Saturday night, I was looking for something to do. I noticed online, Painting with a Twist was having a ladies night. I am brand new to town and don't have any friends so a ladies night seemed like a good activity. I signed up and paid for the class online. I arrived about 15 mins before class started. As I arrived, I was instructed to check in. Check in was easy, but a little uncomfortable when I found out I was the only solo person. I sat between two large parties. The group was women of all ages. Oddly, there was also one man. Not sure why he came to a ladies night, but it didn't seem to be a big deal. No one made him leave. Anyways, Painting started about 15 mins into the class. Aarika was the instructor and she started by giving clear instructions. It was pretty lonely to paint alone. I ordered a drink and painted. No one was talkative so I focused on my artwork. As the class continued, Aarika appeared to rush and give directions. At times, the people around me were lost. Aarika is a former teacher and she reminded us multiple times. Not sure why she felt a need to tell us about her former profession, but it became annoying the 8th time she said it. Two hours later, the class was over. The class ends with photos. I was solo so I skipped the photo part. I am giving this review four stars due to the teacher being a little annoying and the overall vibe of the place. It is a place for groups, not solo people. I also think it shouldn't be advertised as a ladies night if men can attend. read more

I can't believe I've never reviewed this place. I have been here several times and will definitely be back. Today I went for a Game of Thrones theme painting and had a blast as usual. The check-in process is uber easy. The instructors are pretty decent although during my last 2 visits I found the instructors confusing, but they do really go above and beyond to try to help you out. Drink prices are pretty reasonable. Pretty diverse style of art. All in all this place is a winner. Great for b'day parties, girls night out, or just because. I'm definitely a fan! Very disappointed . Maybe my expectations were too high. Purchased a Twist At Home as a Mothers Day gift. My thoughts were, " Perfect gift for relaxing and chilling at home. Even put in the online order Mothers Day Gift. Looked inside the plain brown shopping bag and said, " Is this it"? Included were 4 plain white old school paper plates, 3 of those hard paper towels that you find in public restrooms, the artwork print was placed in a clear 3 ring notebook report cover. And there's the canvas 1 red chinet paint cup. 2 paint brushes for 7 different paint colors. All were packed in a large enough zip lock bag. I bought a brightly printed shopping bag to put everything in and scalloped the edges of the notebook reports cover so at least now it will look like a gift and not items just thrown into a brown paper shopping bag. read more

I had a great time with my mother in law and her friend at Painting with a twist. We did the Cherry Blossom painting, which I had been wanting to do for a long time. I think we had a newer teacher as the owner kept coming up and giving her advice in between her instructions (it was pretty cute actually)...but she did a great job. I really liked the layout of their studio. I have been to a lot of paint and sip type classes and it is hard to place the stage in an optimal area where everyone can see and hear...they did a great job. I really liked that they had individual self portraits painted by the different instructors hanging over the desk...it made me feel like the whole place worked as a community. Our department had a team building event at PWAT. Our class didn't start until 2:30, but we wanted to meet ahead of time to have a catered lunch and play some games. I asked the friendly event coordinator if they would mind if we showed up a couple of hours early and they said no problem! They even offered to bring us folding chairs so we didn't have to sit on the painting stools the whole time. We had a wonderful experience. We work for an airline and chose a picture with an airplane in it and they asked if there were any changes we'd like to make to the plane. We immediately chose to customize it from a prop plane to one with engines like the ones we fly. Much to my surprise, they had a painting already made up as an example with our customized plane on it when we arrived! The artist was patient and kept the atmosphere light in guiding us through the steps. By the end of the class, we all felt empowered to become artists! I am already planning another party with PWAT with some of my tennis friends. I highly recommend! read more
