I went to this school from a few years, and it really changed me. On the good side, I loved how we connected with the Quran and started memorizing it early. But when it came to academics, it felt like it was all about memorizing and repeating, not actually understanding or thinking critically. The teachers are some good and some not so, this situation resonated with me. I was once accused of something I wasn't involved in, and it became a traumatic experience that affected my mental health for a long time. I was interrogated about something I had no knowledge of, pressured to admit to something I didn't even understand, and made to feel guilty for something I didn't do. The emotional toll this took on me was huge. Even after the situation was resolved, a teacher continued to imply that I "deserved" the treatment I received. While I was there, the school environment felt more about fear than safety. There wasn't much room to express problems freely, and the atmosphere was isolating, especially since the class was so small. The academic focus was heavy on memorization, but without much critical thinking or deeper learning. I think that lack of a supportive environment, both academically and emotionally, made things harder than they needed to be. My experience at this private school was frustrating, overly controlling, and academically disappointing. One moment that still stands out happened during lunch when I was seated with younger students, around 9 years old. One of the kids criticized another student for eating McDonald's because it was "unhealthy" and claimed he never ate fast food. I pointed out that he was literally eating Subway, which is also fast food, and called him a hypocrite. The child started crying, reported me to the principal, and I was immediately pulled into the office. Instead of handling the situation rationally, the principal accused me of using a "curse word" because I said "hypocrite," then launched into a religious lecture about how God curses hypocrites and how I should never use that word, even if what I said was true. It felt less like discipline and more like being shamed for basic honesty and critical thinking. The school also enforced rules in ways that felt extreme and disconnected from reality. At one point I had a very short haircut, yet staff told me it was "haram" because the sides were faded -- despite the top being just as short and not even long enough to comb. It came across as nitpicking appearances rather than focusing on education or character. What made the environment even more infantilizing was the way students were treated regardless of age. I was 14 years old and still being escorted around 15 feet to my father's car by a student patrol member who was literally 9 years old. Experiences like this made the school feel unnecessarily controlling and embarrassing instead of supportive or academically focused. Academically, I genuinely have no idea what kind of education this school advertises or how my parents believed it was acceptable. Looking back, I'm extremely glad I was pulled out. The school seemed far more focused on religious studies than on building strong academic foundations, yet many of the instructors did not seem qualified to properly teach either. I remember answering extremely basic questions that any average 9th grader in a public school should know, and the students around me reacted as if I were some kind of genius. The academic standard honestly did not feel comparable to even a general education class in Fairfax County public schools. If your goal is for your child to become well-rounded, intellectually sharp, and properly prepared for higher education or the real world, I would strongly reconsider enrolling them here. I am writing this review to make other parents aware that unfortunately this school does not resemble our peaceful religion. The students are taught about having manners and not bullying, however I am sad to say that the teachers bully students themselves with harsh language and their manners are no where near how religious they appear to be. Teachers are always yelling so loudly and I have witnessed staff yell at students in an abrupt manner as well. Kindergarteners and little ones also get yelled at extremely loudly. This does not foster the love for learning in our children. I love for my kid to be taught the religion in a good manner, however, being too extreme will cause our children to hate our religion. We put the kids to this school knowing they were religious and I appreciated that, however when I say extreme, I mean extreme, they want your children to just follow their beliefs and opinions and mathhab. Everything to them is biddah, like someone misspelled a word and they said it's bidah. The only positive thing about the school is the security and the students are very nice, other than that, the teachers are not polite to students and do not act like how muslims should, and some are not qualified to teach as they pronounce a lot of the words wrong and my kid comes back home saying the words wrong and I have to teach him. Since the entire family works at the school from sisters, to brothers, to sister in law and the grandmother, you will see their little kids running and roaming around the school like it's a daycare (your child maybe asked to babysite their kids during school). You also can't complain to the principle freely as most of the teachers are related to the principle. Lastly, the homework amount is ridiculously long and when I say long, sometimes it takes them 4-5 hrs a night. They get assigned homework during winter break and during EID! My kid was stressed out about it. They also make them write quran surahs several times and this makes students hate learning quran. On top of that, we pay $12,000 and they barely have soap in the bathrooms. They threaten students if they fail standardized testing that the recess will be taken away. They talk bad about other mosques, this is NOT islam! I hope this review will help families out as I wish a real review existed for this school before I put my kids through this. Hi, my name is Anonymous. When I was in eighth grade, I attended Palm Tree School. I have a few good things to say about it and a few bad things -- unfortunately, mostly bad. When I joined Palm Tree School, there were a lot of promises made to us, but many of them weren't kept. The school had a curriculum that was half Islamic studies and half general education. While I believe learning about Islam in school is valuable, I felt the classes were more focused on Arabic and Islamic studies than on core subjects like history, math, and English. I used to do really well in subjects like math and English, but the problem was that the classes were too easy for me -- and probably for many other students as well. I know another student in my grade who felt the same way. I won't mention his name, but he also ended up moving to a different school with a more advanced approach so he could learn at his own pace. For example, when I moved on to ninth grade, I had to take geometry because I had only taken Algebra I in eighth grade -- something I felt put me behind compared to students at other schools. Another issue I experienced was the school's strictness. In my opinion, the teachers were so strict that it made the learning environment uncomfortable. I admit that I was sometimes irresponsible -- like when I didn't complete my homework -- but instead of helping me understand the importance of it, the teachers would often resort to yelling. While I recognize that my actions played a part, I don't believe that level of harshness was necessary. The quality of the food at the school was also disappointing. Lunch cost $5, but all we ever got was either pasta with microwaved meat, chicken nuggets and fries, or some strange combination of those. There was never a healthy option, no fruit, and nothing that could be considered a balanced meal. It definitely wasn't the kind of food that would help students stay energized and focused throughout the day. One of the more troubling aspects of the school was that it felt more like a family business than a professional educational institution. Many of the children of the school's administrators attended, and while some of them were friendly, others created a negative environment. I had a personal experience where one of the students came up behind me and tried to physically harm me by attempting to snap my neck. When I thought about reporting it, I remembered that I had overheard staff dismissing similar concerns as "silly" -- so I felt discouraged from speaking up. That experience made me feel unsafe and unsupported. To be fair, I'll admit that many of the teachers were kind and helpful when I needed assistance. However, the overall behavior of the students often didn't reflect the manners and respect you'd expect from a school focused on Islamic values. I noticed that a lot of students who had been at the school since early grades struggled with anger issues and emotional regulation. I even witnessed a classmate who had been at the school for years become so stressed that they lashed out at a teacher -- and honestly, I couldn't blame them. Being in that environment for so long would take a toll on anyone. In my opinion, Palm Tree School didn't provide a balanced education. While I understand that some parents prioritize Islamic education, I personally believe that Islamic studies can be pursued outside of school hours while still focusing on a strong academic foundation. A balanced approach -- one that includes academics, Islamic studies, organization, and a healthy, stress-free environment -- would help students thrive both educationally and spiritually. Finally, the school's administration had serious communication issues. When I transferred to a new school, it took them months to send my transcript, which delayed my enrollment process. This lack of efficiency made an already difficult transition even harder. For these reasons, I personally wouldn't recommend Palm Tree School. My younger sister attended, and though I never went there myself, I constantly heard about the incredible support and challenging academics she experienced. She always felt motivated and pushed to do her best, and the teachers were not only knowledgeable but also always available to help and tutor whenever she needed extra support. The environment fostered both academic excellence and personal growth, giving her the confidence to succeed. Now that she has moved on to Mason, I can confidently say that Palm Tree School prepared her well for the next chapter. Initially thought very high about palm tree school. But in reality it turned just to the opposite. In a nutshell, this school is nothing but a family business. They sounds very high but do very little. They claimed for mannerism when they have lacking of it. They talks about advance curriculum but in reality it is not compatible with Fairfax County public schools. They actually compare their curriculum with the schools in Egypt I.e. ridiculous obviously when live on America. I left a review on Google where I mention that the "well manners" and all the stuff they claim the school to be is utter nonsense, and the school took down my original comment. I guess one thing this school teaches is that the only way to solve our problems is to run away from them. Please note that all the other reviews left about this school lists mainly false information. I should know. There are people who don't even take their kids/go to this school and they left a review so.... To summarize what I said, the school is a mess. Everything is disorderly and last minute. The cafeteria food is terrible. You pay $5 to get a sad plate of the wide selection (lunch is either kraft mac n cheese, reheated spaghetti, microwaved chicken nuggets with fries, or a plain salad with only lettuce in it. Remember that they have one lunch option for each day) that they call their "lunch menu" without any fruit or drinks. While some teachers were very kind, most of them don't have an actual degree in teaching. They teach grade level things to everyone. The office has got to be the worst thing about this school. They don't listen to teacher's requests and critiques. They don't care. They're unbelievably rude to some people who haven't done anything to them. Basically, it's the military: one step out of line and you're out. Except "stepping out of line" in the military is when they do something bad, and at this school, stepping out of line is not robotically agreeing to every single thing they say. It's a dictatorship. Literally. Whatever you do, don't take your kids to this school. Public school is better, where they can at least get a taste of actual people who have normal views and opinions.
