I've been going to Dr.Joy Kim for the past year, currently twice/week, for infertility. After hearing so many success stories and reading positive clinical trials for TCM- traditional Chinese medicine, I decided to start (and commit to!) an acupuncture routine. If it's tried and true, why not? [Before settling into Dr.Kim's practice, I tried Shin Nong Acupuncture; the vibe was completely different- less relaxing!] Dr.Kim's practice has a clean, holistic, medicinal feel that's interwoven with a relaxing, healing energy. And I appreciate that it's always just Dr.Kim and her lovely medical assistant, instead of a host of unfamiliar doctors, receptionists and assistants. It's a small family dedicated to your individual healing. And those gals know their stuff!! How much: My insurance (Cigna) doesn't cover acupuncture unless it's coded for a specific condition (I highly suggest calling and asking what diagnosis codes are covered under your plan, just so you're aware.) Dr.Kim charges me $65/session for acupuncture with e-stimulation; the session lasts about 45 mins. She's in the Palmdale office on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Simi Valley on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Overcome the needles: Dr.Kim made it easy to overcome my needle phobia. Granted, I'm still working on it, but I've learned that your mind and focus are far greater than the initial twinge. Take your mind off the needle and focus on the energy that it's opening up in your body. It also helps that Dr.Kim has been doing acupuncture for a lifetime, mastering her application technique. The needle insertion sensation only lasts for a split-second, but you'll be feeling the incredible results for the rest of the week. She always places a warm red-light lamp, or if you're lucky she'll use moxibustion (you'd be surprised how lovely warmed needles feel), during the treatment. I always appreciate her peaceful, professional demeanor. She knows exactly what points to calm, and what points to stimulate for blood flow. After each session, I feel grounded and centered. I have used Acupuncture for many years. My hobby and passion racing motorcycles. I have experienced the excitement of victory also the agony of defeat. The Acupuncture doctor I used for many years retired a couple of years back. I have been lucky and not crashed for some time. This fall I crashed and then got my bike stuck in a hole. Made an appointment here along with my mom whose blood pressure was spiraling out of control. Her regular medical doctor was not listening to her and no matter what medicine she was on it did not seem to help. Can't claim that Dr. Kim is a medical worker but she definitely helped my mother with the headaches, tension and pain she was experiencing. My mom stating that she felt like the pressure in her head had been released. I had Dr. Kim take a look at my knee since I seem to suffer from runner's knee. Have to say that it feels much better. Will be taking my dad and more family members next. She is a very sweet and professional person. Despite us living about 5 minutes away I seemed to get lost trying to find her office and she waited outside for us to make sure that we would find her! I don't know where to start with my review. I guess I'll start by saying that I am VERY happy wit my acupuncture treatment!!! I definitely recommend it for anyone having problems (specifically my problem). A little of my backstory so you understand why I am so happy with my results: I had my son when I was young, about a month after his birth I got the mirena IUD for birth control. I had it for about 3 years and when it started hurting I decided to have it removed. That was 4 years ago and since then I have not been able to get pregnant. I never knew what was wrong until last year in December when the monthly pain I have in my uterus was so bad that I had to leave work. I went to the doctor and they did an ultrasound, from there I was referred to a gynecologist and she told me I suffer from PCOS. She have me birth control to "reset" my ovaries and I gained about 13 pounds the one month I took it. I stopped it right away and lost the weight. I decided I needed to do something natural in july of 2014 so I researched acupuncture for my problem and read that It was a good treatment option. I made my first appointment and came two more times after that. After my second treatment the pain didn't come and today I am supposed to be ovulating so I took an ovulation test and I am actually ovulating!!!!! After four years of pain and not ovulating I am ovulating after three weeks!!! The happiness I feel is amazing! read more

I went in looking to explore traditional Chinese medicine to boost my immune system and fight a stealth infection I have (ebstein barr virus and possible Lyme) but after telling Dr Kim about my current health state she looked like a deer in headlights and had no info for me. I've been going to this acupuncturist for one year, and the acupuncture is very painful. Now they lied saying they don't take my insurance, saying it is out of network. I have kaiser, I called and Kaiser told me that they are in network and they do take the insurance. Let me start off by saying Dr. Joy Kim is "fantastic". I only had 8 sessions with her for chronic neck and back pain due to a work related injury. She was able to decrease my pain levels and improve flexibility in my neck. She is very observant and detailed in her work because she truly cares for her clients. The front office assistant is very friendly and helpful as well. I enjoyed the individualized attention and the office energy. Firstly I want to start off by saying that I love acupuncture and have used it successfully for years, and I am a certified massage therapist and have a lot of experience receiving acupuncture and chiropractic care. A few days ago I went in to see Dr.Kim for acupuncture for numbness in my hands. I have never had a more unhelpful acupuncture appointment in my life. The application of the needles was sloppy and painful which I have never experience in years of recieving treatment. And then at the end of my session, without asking first, Dr. Kim took it upon herself to adjust my wrists. Since then my left wrist has been in terrible pain and I can't lift any weight with it. And when I called to inform her of what I have been feeling since our appointment she was extremely defensive and says that what she did was standard for her practice and has the nerve to suggest and I come and see her again: the person who's incompetence put me in this pain... Rough fast joint adjustments are NOT something that an acupuncturist should be performing, especially with no knowledge of the stability of the joint before hand. She at the very least should have asked if I had previous injuries before "manipulating the joint" Purely unprofessional at every turn, her treatment did not help my numbness ON TOP of leaving me incapacitated and in extreme pain. So basically I paid her to sprain my wrist and make it so I can't work. I would give negative stars if I could. read more

My experience has not been what the other reviews are touting. Granted, I have been helped in some areas, only to have pain in another. If it wasn't discounted by the acupuncture practitioner and her assistant a few times, I would feel better. I question if it is standard procedure to place a needle through two layers of clothing. I had such bad pain I almost jumped off the table. When I bring it up the practitioner acts like she doesn't remember it. I do not feel assured by that and it's been over a month since that happened and I still have pain at the exact site of the needle when I bear weight on that leg. I am disappointed. I have been to acupuncture practitioners in the past and have never experienced anything like this. It seems like they are taking the laziest, easiest and fastest route to get patients in and out of there. My first impression is that they only care about the insurance payments. I'm a retired health care professional myself and I know that it is unsanitary to push a needle into someone's skin through clothing. I had never heard of this in my life. At first I thought I had nerve damage, but hopefully it is just inflammation; which is bad enough. I may need an x-ray just to make sure it is okay and not a piece of needle is in there. One never knows. It's very sad because I have always believed in acupuncture and it has helped me a few times in the past. I am nervous about going to another acupuncturist due to this unpleasant experience. I will not be going back to this one, nor do I recommend them to anyone. read more
