We made note of a few other sites we'd like to stay at and plan to return. We liked the privacy that the Wagon Wheel offered, compared to the Lakefront (parking lot camping is not our thing). There was plenty of path for us to ride our bikes so we spent most of our time riding. Next time, we plan to bring a bow and arrow so the littles can try some archery. All in all, it was a great visit and we are looking forward to our next one.

This is a very popular state park. It was busy over the weekend with families. Now it's the…read morechildfree camping time. Roads are reverting back to nature (lots of holes and ruts) in the section closest to the St. Clair River, but they are reasonably sized campsites. In the newer section of the park the roads are better, but the sites are smaller. And there are culverts between the sites, which right now are breeding mosquito pits. I'm surprised that there is still a shooting range here at the park, but if you don't mind that noise all weekend, it's not a big deal. I love watching the freighters go by all day long. Its mesmerizing. I think I will try for a river view next time.

On my way, I spotted a large walleye that had been caught, a lovely garden for children, and the Huron Lightship museum. There were so many more photo-worthy spots to explore. I highly recommend the fresh air, bird watching, people watching, and the stunning blue water.

Marine City Beach has officially become our new favorite beach! What I love most is how close…read moreeverything is. The beach, playground, restaurants, and even the porta potty are all within a short walk, so you're not dragging chairs and coolers forever just to get settled. The beach is perfect for families. The swimming area is roped off and looked a little small at first, but once we got in, it felt surprisingly spacious. The lake bottom is soft sand too, so we didn't even need water shoes. The water is definitely chilly, so I'd recommend visiting on a hot summer day. The highlight for our kids was watching the massive freighters cruise down the St. Clair River. They pass through regularly, and every time one came by it felt like an event. It made an already fun beach day even more memorable. We had such a great time and will definitely be back. This little beach is a gem!

There are remnants and historical storyboards pertaining a family farm previously existing on the property. This is my favorite nature walk in Chesterfield Township. There are multiple entrances. The main entrance is well hidden, way back off Hooker Road. Follow the paved road past the new subdivision, take the winding dirt road and drive until the road ends. Another entrance is under development off Jefferson, kitty-corner from Brandenberg Park. The township is also developing trails behind Kroger off 23 Mile Road. The township plan is to connect all trails into a grand network. Since the area is still under active development, prepare for frequent changes and possible confusion. The trails are not marked well and parking can be a creative pursuit. Regardless, the trail network is a wonderful addition to the community.

With so much to see, it makes the walk even more enjoyable. The blue water and the view of Canada across the river are absolutely breathtaking. I also loved watching the boaters, the birds, and everything else I could spot from this walk. So far, I've only walked to and through a tunnel, but it was definitely worth it to see the art inside. It's a great walk, and I recommend wearing good shoes to fully appreciate the rich history and exciting future of this amazing park walk.

Go on a hayride--more of a tractor pulling a large wagon with no hay. Went for quite a long bumpy ride out to a pumpkin patch. It was fun. You can get off and pick your own pumpkin (extra cost) or free flowers. Then they come back and pick you up. So many prepicked pumpkins were for sale at the main building. There were a lot of activities for kids. Hamster rings to roll in at the Rat race. A rubber ducky water trough race. For smaller kids a pumpkin maze. A large loose corn area for kids to play in with small trucks. A tricycle racetrack. Outdoor fire. Petting farm. And more. Then you can buy delicious cider and donuts as well as other foods like hot dogs, jellies and metal yard decorations. So glad we finally found this place. My grandson did not want to leave as he was having so much fun.
