I had been to the prior location at Northwoods Mall multiple times and just stopped into their new location at Tanger Outlets over the weekend. The space is cute and colorful. The staff is helpful and friendly and they have a variety of ceramics to choose from to paint. They also have options for painting canvases and creating glass art, which I haven't tried yet. I like the new location, which now has a space in the back with booths, etc for a quieter experience or for a group that needs a little more space to work. The only thing that threw me off was that there are a few different spots that have the ceramic options to paint, but they are on opposite side of the room, etc. So after browsing & selecting an item to paint, I happened to see another display on the other wall with items to choose from, but didn't notice them until after the fact. It would be a little easier to see all of my options in one area, but I also understand that people need the space to browse without being too crowded. I like being able to do something "artistic" without having a plan or following instructions. It might not always look the best, but I always have fun doing it! read more

My friend and I had a ball today at Palmetto Clayground!! They accept walk-ins for the simple pottery painting items or a basic canvas. They offer classes for glass fusion and guided paint classes (the walls had some super cute images!!) amongst other themed classes. Upon walking in, we were greeted and asked if this was our first time at the location - it was our first rodeo so she explained the setup. Essentially you pick an item (price on the bottom) and once that's established you pick some colors and paint on! I know with supply issues it may be hard to stock for inventory, but found the selection enough for me plus was stumped on what to decide on! I like how they have seasonal items like ornaments, dreidels, halloweenie goodies, Easter, St Patrick's Day, etc. plus the basics like plates, cups, and side dishes. There's a range of prices from $6-$250 (that one was a gnome riding an owl statue lol). A little paint goes a long way plus I liked how they re-used the plastic palettes so that's environmentally conscious. It was super calming to paint plus liked the spinning wheel to avoid touching the item as much while getting each nook and cranny. It'll take around 2-3 weeks to pick up the item I'm guessing due to kiln space so I'll post the after picture then! If I had kids I would definitely host a party for them here, lovely way for folks of all ages to flex their creativity. Wish there were more studios with pottery wheels to create from the ground up. If you are looking for something fun to pass the time away adults or children this is it. They have so many choices of things you can do, which is to paint pieces already done, or paint canvases. My daughter I chose to paint cups. I love owls, so I was glad to find one. You choose your paints and just have at it. You only pay the amount of your item. Once you're finished, you leave it with an instructor who was actually great. They will put it in an oven to glaze and call you in about 4 days or less to pick it up. The young lady was of good help and very honest and straightforward with the prices, and process .she was very helpful to the kids. They painted I even went in the store next door while they painted their pieces. I picked it up in less than a week. Everything looks good I will be visiting again prices are kind of expensive but they do have items that cheaper $5-$15. read more

I came to Plametto Clayground for an acrylic pour class. Upon entering the shop I was pleasantly surprised at how many different ceramic pieces they have for you to choose from and paint (I'm definitely going back to paint something). Let it be know they also have Glass Fusion projects to conquer (I'm definitely definitely going back to do a glass fusion project). Now for the Acrylic Pour class...my project came out awesome as you can see the in pictures. The instructors explained two different methods of pour while visually showing you how to do each of the two methods; a dirty pour and a puddle pour. Then they come around and give you the colors you would like to use for your pour (this took a while because of the class size ratio to teacher was large. My only issue with this awesome class was that there were not many colors to choose from and they ran out of some colors for your pour project which limited many of the attendees projects. I did ask for some extra paint and mixed colors to make different shades of pink for my project which made up for the lack of color selection. read more

I want to start out by saying this was a great time overall and we had a lot of fun painting the ceramic pieces. The manager was so friendly and helpful. We made a deposit back in August for a private party, but since they switched systems, they lost our reservation, so we weren't alone in the studio like we were supposed to be. We got refunded 50% of the deposit. I thought that was nice. The pottery turned out really great and I would highly recommend this place if you live in the area. However, if you are on a shorter timeline and need the pieces by a rushed order deadline, I would be more hesitant. We got to the store to pick up our pieces at 11:30am which is when they said it would probably be done by to begin with and we didn't leave until 1:40pm. The pieces were still in the kiln and was taking a really long time to cool down. The manager was communicating with us the whole time as to how much longer she thought it would take, but it was frustrating since we were trying to go home from our vacation back over 5 hours away. I think this is not ideal if you're around for a long weekend, but if you're not pressed for time in getting your ceramics back, you should do it! read more

Friendly staff, reasonable prices, and great place to distract the kids when it's too hot or rainy outside. I went there with my 3-year old and was able to paint a gift for mom. The pottery is ready to go and then you just paint the piece. The staff will the. Fire it in their kiln and then contact you when it is ready. I was able to pick up the completed piece within three days. While there, I saw they off painting and other crafts. Overall, a great experience for kids and adults. read more

Amazing canvas birthday party for my 9 year old daughter. She LOVED it and her friends had a great time! Jess the instructor was awesome and so patient! She walked the girls through each stroke and helped when needed. So organized and CLEAN. Compared to other local pottery/paint parties that we've had, this far surpassed our expectations. This was my first and last time at this place! I wold not recommend this business for children 5 and under!! My daughters and I decided to go here because our other Pottery Studio was closed. Next time we will just wait!! My 5 year old was painting a 21$ piece of pottery. She decided to use markers to mark where she wanted to paint poke dots on her princess' dress. The manager came over there and called her down like she had committed a crime!! Of course my little girl started crying!!! She barked at her stating the markers were not for the pottery and put them back!! But they were in the pottery section. At this point the whole experience is ruined! My girls and I use our craft time to be creative and unique! We find great peace by creating our projects! I left this place very upset and the whole experience ruined our girls day!! read more

My children and I visited Palmetto Clayground on a random day off from school. We were warmly welcomed and the process was explained well. They have a huge selection of ceramic things to paint as well as glass art and canvases. The girl working there was very helpful throughout the entire process - even my 6 year old son loved it! This art studio allows anyone to show their creative side and also helps creatively challenged people create really cool stuff. There are no age restrictions and you can come in any time the Northwoods Mall is open. No appointment needed. My oldest son, who is nine, LOVES to do glass fusion! My youngest has been painting pottery here since he was two and just loves it! The staff is always there willing to lend a hand even distracting the children so that mom or dad can finish what they are working on. They have recently started a homeschool happy-hour, which is really great! Check them out you won't be disappointed!! read more

Came in today in hopes that my daughter could paint something, when a gnome fell over that my daughter didn't even touch & was told I had to pay for it since SHE broke it, even though she didn't. The Store manager 'Jessica', had a very nasty, negative attitude about everything. Basically laughed in my face when I asked to speak to the owner, BECAUSE of her attitude. She then claimed she handled all "personal affairs" like this. How can you handle a personal affair, when the issue is you? When I told her she needed to work on her attitude, she laughed & said "I'll think about that when I look at myself in the mirror tonight". I wasn't even upset about paying for the stupid gnome, I was genuinely pissed about her crappy attitude, snarky comments & shady smirks about everything. This was our first and last visit to palmetto clayground. And I will gladly tell everyone about what a horrible place this is.
