Unfortunately I failed to read all the negative reviews posted here which mimicked my same experience, and which would have prompted me to go elsewhere for my annual exam. I anticipated paying out of pocket to some degree, even though my supplemental vision insurance through Aetna typically covers everything including a trial pair of contact lenses. However I was told at check in that my 'fitting fee' would range anywhere from $40 to $190 and that my contact lenses would not 'necessarily' be covered. So after the initial introduction to Dr Wise I explained that in the past I had been a patient at Pearl vision in California and because I'm on a monthly budget and my questions had not been clearly answered by the staff, I was not feeling comfortable about the exam. Dr Wise responded that her staff does not provide a cost estimate until the insurance makes that determination. That she was the 'Doctor' and I should be happy to have the exam and that no one ever asks her about costs. She then told me to go back to Pearl - and California - and refused to proceed with the exam. As others mentioned below I am still in disbelief that anyone engaged in the medical industry could be so uncaring about a patients financial questions within today's rising costs. But more importantly as a senior citizen I felt totally disrespected and discriminated against. Since I had been on vacation in Beaufort at the time, I scheduled the next appointment with a Charleston optometrist who was able to give me an exact outline of what to expect on the date of exam with nothing more than my membership ID: No out of pocket - zero deductible - first sample pair free. The receptionist was very compassionate and said that since we had driven that far, she would make sure he stayed in the office after he finished the procedure he was working on if we wanted to head that way for a consult (same day!!). We were never rushed or pushed for a commitment, but Dr. Daniel spent nearly an hour with us and even prayed with us before we left. Within a few days we found resources to make it possible and every single person on staff was amazing! We knew we were in great hands but they kept us encouraged throughout the process and remained compassionate even after the appointment and any time I called with questions! It's not like others who will not return your call once they have the money... they were happy to hear from us each and every time we called with questions, pre and post procedure! It took us a little while to get my motility back to normal, but my regular urologist put me on Clomid, which boosted my motility from almost 0 to normal within 3 months!! Buyer beware - I paid almost $900 for glasses I could not wear. These were the more expensive "wide view" lenses. This did not resolve the issue. Their resolution - the frame vender agreed to refund the cost of the frame less $35 restocking fee. I returned the glasses and was refunded $400. No accountability or refund for the poor quality lenses. I was out almost $500 while they profited at my expense. Very disappointing.

After scanning my ID and Ins card at the front desk, I just had time to sit down comfortably when my name was being called. A quick trip to the blinding lights and the eye puffer, and I was in an exam room. After a very thorough questioning from the nurse/assistant/whatever you call them, Doctor Bowles was tapping on my door within a very short 5 minutes. I expected a quick 1 or 2, a or b, but was pleasantly surprised as she not only took her time with me, making sure I was tracking what she was saying, she also explained my eye scans (all normal, yay) and went over her thoughts on correcting my vision and gave me options as to how I wanted to go. OPTIONS! Amazing. Seriously. So bottom line is, if you are in the Savannah area, ESPECIALLY if you are a Gulfstream employee (they happily take VSP), forget about the big chain places and head to Effingham EyeCare. I was told someone would call soon from Schulze Eye to schedule an appointment. Almost one month goes by and no word from Schulze Eye. Thinking I might have missed their call, I dropped by the office of Schulze Eye on May 7, 2026, to see if I could schedule an appointment. I met with a friendly black lady at the front desk who informed me that I had not missed a call that, in fact, the person who processes referrals has been out on leave and that she would most certainly call me within a week. That did not happen. On May 18, 2026, I received a call on my cell phone which indicated "Potential Spam". Of course, I did not answer. However, upon immediately checking my voice mail, the call was from Schultz Eye, requesting that I call them back to schedule an appointment. I called back right away and was transferred to their voice mail. I left a message with my identifying information, requesting that someone call me to schedule an appointment. Today is May 27, 2026, and I have yet to hear from anyone at Schulze Eye Center. Obviously, scheduling appointments is not a top priority at Schulze Eye and staff are not being held accountable. 6-19-24 Had an…read moreappointment at this office for my annual body check. First time here as I am new to the area and my primary doctor referred me here. After a checking they noticed a something suspicious on my back. Oddly enough it was located next to where I had a melanoma removed 30 years ago. The biopsy came back that I have melanoma again but they caught it thankfully in its early stages. They followed up with an appointment to remove a larger area so that they got it all. That will take place end of the month at their Hilton Head location. Next they scheduled appointments every three months for the next year to do checks on my body. I think they have done an excellent job catching it so soon and their plan to get ahead of it is wonderful. Thankful that they are very detailed and got it early.

I am going to try to make my families appointments at another office or maybe another group entirely in the future . This is really unfortunate , and a poor representation of the personable , skilled medical providers at this location .
