I recently moved to the area and needed to establish myself with a primary care physician. You all know how stressful this can be. My daughter recommended Palmetto Primary Care and Dr. Teachman. I called to make an appointment and they were very nice. They texted me a link to fill out all my forms, attach a copy of my insurance card, and pay my copay ahead of time. It was so easy and allowed me to breeze right into the appointment. The assistant was very nice and put me at ease, taking my blood pressure and history. I really liked Dr. Teachman. He said he wanted to get to know me. He took time to understand my family history and talk about my lifestyle. I felt very comfortable, not nervous, like when I usually visit a new doctor. I trust that we have a good plan moving forward for my care. Checking out was easy, and I made a follow-up appointment for 6 months. The offices and waiting room are beautiful and clean. The staff is super friendly. If you are looking for a doctor that takes time to get to know a patient and really listens while providing excellent care, this is the place for you. Mount Pleasant Location: I would give this office zero stars if it'd let me. I had an extremely frustrating experience with this office and would strongly caution others. I originally came in for a routine physical, which should have been fully covered by my insurance. Instead, I was billed for standard services like bloodwork. It took SIX MONTHS of repeated calls and back-and-forth to get this addressed. Every time you call, you're routed to a call center, which makes resolving anything even more difficult. After reading other reviews, it seems like this is a common issue here. On top of that, basic accuracy seems to be a problem. I'm 5'10" and fully grown, yet they initially recorded me as 6'1". When I questioned it, my chart was later updated to 5'6" -- which is wildly inaccurate and concerning. The most frustrating part: I specifically went in last fall to establish care and ensure continuity for a prescription after moving from NC. I clearly explained that I didn't need a refill at that time since my previous doctor had just sent one in. I was told that was fine and that I could simply call when I needed a refill. When I called today, they refused to fill it and said I'd need to come in for another appointment and pay again -- completely contradicting what I was previously told. Overall, this office is disorganized, inconsistent, and incredibly frustrating to deal with. I would AVOID AT ALL COSTS. read more

Just moved to Charleston and was looking for a new doctor. My daughter recommended Palmetto Primary Care. The staff was so friendly and really seemed to care about people. Doctor Teachman was friendly and made a great connection with my wife and I. We enjoyed the time he spent with us evaluating any health concerns we may have. He reviewed my records and determined that i was on medication that i didn't need to be taking based on my blood work. I'm glad to be off of medication that is not necessary. He was very detailed about my family history and any current issues regarding my health. This place is reasonably priced and will not break the bank. Co-pay was lower than most other places we looked at. I would recommend Palmetto Primary Care. read more

Dr. Teachman is amazing, nurses are amazing, and the checkout person is great. However the "office manager" and first impression at the front desk, Amy, needs a new job. She has ALWAYS been rude and acted miserable every time we have entered the place. Everyone had an off day, but this repeated behavior resulted in this review. Sorry to anyone else who has this encounter as she needs a new job. As a person trying to take care of their health, first impressions are everything and this girl makes every visit seem dreadful. If you want to hold a managerial position you will need more personality and kindness than she holds herself with. Such distaste. read more

Please find a new receptionist. There usually is something ALWAYS wrong each time I attend. Not to mention if there's anything ever even the slightest request to go out of her way, the receiptionist AMY will give you the worst attitude ever. It's like she has her eat shit attitude on standby waiting to be rude if you have a question. But that's just when you're over the phone. In person, she's as fake as anything. FYI, customers can still hear AND see you behind the glass sectional. First, I make an appointment with Amy to see my doctor. As I sign in I'm told my doctor hasn't worked there for a while. Why wasn't this brought to my attention while making the appt and then given the choice of which doc I'd prefer to see? ...And I was switching doctors now...( thanks customer service!) then while in the room, I mention to the nurse I need a prescription, she writes it in the computer even looks at the bottle to ensure what she's writing is correct. I never received the medication for it. So now I have to call in and review that I never got the script and the nurse day of had the information. Still waiting on that call-in prescription. ... days later I'm checking my bills/records. Turns out Amy didn't charge me the appropriate co-pay. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt, I did switch plans but still under the same provider love. But then her attitude is back!! And instead of assisting she repeats herself in a negative tone as if I were a toddler who is incapable of hearing what she said two seconds ago, the first time , and then she directs me to billing to have it sorted. And the last time I called request an overcharge they billed me for a new patient charge and then apparently a smokers charge(...FYI if you tell the doc you aren't interested in more info about her wanting you to quit smoking, that's a charge.)To make it even better, "mhmm okay bye bye now" is not how you end a conversation. Great representation of your job. Once again, if you enjoy receiving constant attitude, ridicule, and basic incompetence and having to double check if you're being overcharged continuously then this establishment welcomes you with shit attitude and lack of customer service!! Well...I totally miss Dr Laura. But Kate is also a pleasure. I have seen Dr Teachman once and he is also great. Girl at checkout is wonderful too and the nurses are delightful. I have to agree with a lot of the reviews on the check in/office Mgr. Sometimes she is pleasant, but mostly she is short and doesn't want to be bothered. I'm not sure if there's just too much on her plate and she doesn't like to multitask. But this is a first impression situation. I have sent friends there because of the Dr and PA. They all tell me the same thing....rude girl checking me in. Smile!! Life is too short to be that miserable. read more

Dr. Teachman and the team on James Island are the best. I've been seeing them for about 3 years since I moved to Johns Island. I am a healthcare provider and this this is a top notch team. I have never had an issue with anyone there and they are responsive to phone calls, messages via website, etc. I highly recommend Dr. Teachman, he takes the time and listens. read more

This place is absolutely terrible. I never saw an actual doctor. When I requested to see one, the receptionist (who is a terrible human being) denied my request. On my first visit, Kate changed my psych meds without knowing anything about my medical history. In addition, all of the referrals they provided did not pan out. Here's what's based off my mother's experience and what I've witnessed over the since years since he completely stopped giving her the pain medicine. Why did I wait until now we'll...the jerk is still at the least wrong for the way in which he handled the situation and I felt like letting him know what's happened to her since. And at one point he was more than willing to give her pain pills before the law was changed in, 2016. My mother went through withdrawals that lead to seizures that lead to more brain damage that now has landed her in a whirlwind of trouble and pain. Since you so conveniently cut her off and I know you did give her a "warning" (and I know this law sucks) but you were so ugly and wrong for the way you acted. You honestly have nothing but hate in your heart. There's no way someone could've done and said what you did if you had compassion. My mother is disabled not a faker and obviously has no right eye but you still talked to her like a dog that day. She cried and you were still rude. I only regret not saying something to you then. My mom almost died 2 months ago and the doctors and I are looking at when this all started. How convenient, that it was since seeing you. She can't even mention your name without getting sick. I tell you what the nurse you have working for you, I pray you treat her good because the hug she gave my mother when we walked out with her crying so hard meant the world to her. (God I wish I could remember her name.)I do have a lot of dislike for you, Dr. Teachmen and I still don't know why you were hateful, but how about help someone find another doc and talk to them like their human before doing what you did that day.
