Wow, what an experience! I heard fun things about the store and decided to come by. It was super…read morepacked with teenage kids playing the claw machines and the parking lot was packed but overall a fun experience. When you walk in you're greeted with rows of blind boxes of various kinds. I ended up getting a sunny angel to open, which was kinda fun. The best part of the snack aisles. Endless options of chips, candies and drinks to try. My only grief is the cost of everything. You can go to Daiso, or an Asian Market in the area to get some of the snacks for a fraction of the price. I will say that their home and beauty section is superior. I saw folks stocking up on skincare and I certainly need to spend more time there next time. The staff were super friendly and willing to help. They also checked in to make sure we didn't need anything during our shopping experience. Overall we had a great time and would venture back to find new interesting snacks to try.

This store is also cheaper than H-Mart for a lot of stuff as well if you're familiar with that grocery store. Upon further inspection, it was produced in Australia (the long journey probably resulted in less freshness). However, I've had great luck with the Asian pears and most of the vegetables we bought here. I think it just depends on what you're looking for! Once you head out of the produce section, there's a great ready-made food area with everything from bento meals to breakfast favorites. This area is also where they have offered free tasters of dumplings and noodles in the past. Right past here are beverage aisles, frozen and refrigerated foods, then shelf stable items. Fresh fish and meats can be found along the very back of the restaurant. I'm particularly partial to the huge drink aisle where I've found everything from papaya milk to zero sugar sodas. Great selection of a ton of brands. You'll find similar impressive variety in their other aisles. Checkout is pretty simple afterwards with a traditional cashier, and as you leave, there is a great food court with a ton of different choices. The parking lot is a little hectic, but I would just make sure to take the back exits rather than the ones off the main road: it'll take forever if you want to turn left (since there are no traffic lights or signs for oncoming traffic).

On my way to Assi (a Korean grocery), I saw the Zander Import Groceries sign with the curious winged lion. "Another time," I thought. But, it ate at me while I was shopping at Assi. So, I read a few Yelp reviews in the parking lot and decided to endure the six o'clock traffic on Milwaukee Ave and drive back there. The reviews said bread and pickles, try the bread and pickles. That was the mission. I believe it not chance that Zander was grinding fresh Turkish Coffee beans for another customer as I walked in. The smell was inviting and immediately perked me up. Now I know I'll come back when I have coffee drinking guests to entertain. There are plenty of good Indian, Pakistani, and Persian stores within a few miles of Zander Import Groceries, but Zander earns his relevance due to certain specific Assyrian goods he offers. The breads are acquired from bakeries in Skokie and Chicago, and the quality is good. The lavash was particularly nice, but the heavily floured crust left me wanting some of that coffee to wash it down. The Assyrian bread had a great bite and reminded me of a doughnut without sugar. (Does that make sense?) A kind gentleman patron directed me to a spicy homemade pickle of cabbage, carrot, and spices. I must say, it was delicious and I hope my husband loves it as much as I do. Zander also had some imported pickles and olives which looked fascinating. There were other staples, too, as you can see from my photos. This shop is definitely needed and earns its place with some unique offerings. Then she shopped here at Oak Mill Mall up until she passed away. I still come here for my sausage, ground veal and ground sirloin. I think of my mom every time I walk in. I'm thankful they kept and carried on the traditions from Milwaukee Ave. They continue to make their parents and relatives proud by their consistent high quality. The location is extremely convenient. The minute you walk out of the Kedzie Brown Line stop you make a right and you're there. There's parking, which is good to know. The grocery store is huge and has a variety of Middle Eastern and Turkish goods. I bought several cheeses, from Kashkaval to Halloumi and most importantly my Labne! The meat looked extremely fresh, but I wasn't going to risk dragging it on the train with me all the way back to downtown, but I'll definitely keep that in mind if I drive back there. The isles are organized and neat. There's also a mini bakery in the store and it has delicious sweets and lots and lots of fresh bread. They also have the famous Middle Eastern Mankushe (thyme and cheese flavors)! I wanted to buy so many more things but there's only so much I can carry with me. Can be very crowded during peak times and hard to move around other shoppers. You do have to be aware of prices--sometimes they can be crazy high, especially for fresh fruit. And the young cashiers can be inattentive and occasionally rude. Still, one of the best supermarkets around, IMO.
