When you have a sick child you don't want to take them to just anybody. This is why my wife and I did our research and found PVMG to be just what we needed. Dr. Saad had great reviews and many years of experience and when we saw how well she was able to work with our child who had an ear infection we knew we would be seeing her for the foreseeable future. The office is very clean and they even have different entrances for sick patients vs. Not. The staff is super friendly and our son quickly made friends with everyone there! There is plenty of parking, but the only problem is that it can take about 15-20 minutes to get to the correct third floor entrance from the parking lot on a quiet day. We would recommend arriving to the parking structure at least 30 minutes just to be on the safe side. Overall we were very satisfied with the care and service of PVMG! read more

Have been going for several years for something specific and have started using them for yearly check ups etc. I typically see Kia Brown, NP as she has more availability and I usually call shorter notice, and she is amazing. Literally will answer any question and even scheduled a telehealth as a follow up when I changed medications. Highly highly recommend the entire office, Dr. Sher is the best too, he is just harder to schedule due to all the specialties. Hardly a wait anymore and I'm usually in and out within 30-40 min. I went here because I had pain in my lower abdomen area. The physician assistant listened to my concerns and suggested an ultrasound. The ultrasound tech told me everything looked fine and sent me back to the dr. I was then sent home with antibiotics for a UTI. Two days later I ended up in the hospital with sepsis for two weeks. I will never go to this place again! They rush you in and out and now they want to start charging a $300 fee? Ridiculous!!! If I could I would give them 0 stars. read more

This practice is owned by Kaiser... Which means you are not getting the best care. You're only getting the cheapest care. There is no pride of ownership here. The doctors don't really care about what happens here cuz they have no incentive. They have no financial interest. They are just employees. Dr. Sher prescribed an extremely dangerous antibiotic that damaged the ligaments in my hands. And and he did not care about what he had done to me. He is a horrible human being. Here's the thing: I've been going to this office for years. Most times I walk in, I get my vitals taken, pee in a cup, then spend 10-12 minutes chatting with my favorite NP. I get charged a $20 co-pay, my insurance gets charged for Lord knows how much more, and they call in my prescriptions. Everybody wins. But apparently this practice, in a rich community full of rich families with Cadillac insurance plans, just isn't making enough money. So beginning in 2024, they're implementing a *mandatory* $300/person annual charge just to walk in the door. Am I wrong to think that's insane? Like, I already pay for insurance. They get paid by said insurance when they provide care. I get that maybe certain services they provide (e.g., helping people fill out forms, or writing letters for schools or employers) aren't covered by insurance, and some don't pay as well as they would like, but that's what's called "the cost of doing business." Four stars for the solid care they've provided in the past. Negative two stars for the offensive new policy. I won't be going back. :-( read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. I went to PVMG two weeks ago with lower GI pain. (Yes, I had to give them $300 to see me.) I suspected I had a lower GI tract infection (as I've had this before). If left untreated, the infection can reabsorb into your blood stream and in extreme cases, kill you if you don't get the infection under control. The doctor was nice but said they had to draw blood before they could prescribe antibiotics. It would only take a couple of day for the results. I emailed four days later (since they never answer the phone). They said their lab work takes a week. A week and a half later I emailed again. They said they just got the result that morning and I had to wait until someone read the results. Would I like to schedule an appointment? I declined. Stupid me, I kept trying to describe what was going on - time is of the essence. No one cared. Finally they scheduled a phone call the next day with the Dr. so the Dr. would have time to read test results. The office called today (not the Dr.) and said they didn't run the right test. Could I come back in - today - and have them draw blood for the correct test. I asked them if they charged my insurance for that blood test that was no good? They said no but we all know that's not true. I told them I would just call my GI doctor - which I should have called in the first place. Then the person at the other end of the phone had the gall to say, "How long is it going to take for you to get in there?" Really? It was all down hill from there and I ended up hanging up on them. There are so many choices to go to for good medical care in this area, don't waste your time at PVMG. Now to get my $300 back... read more

I came in over the summer for a physical. Waited 6 weeks for the appointment, arrived early, then had to wait an hour to see the doctor, then sat in the office waiting another 30 minutes for the nurse to come in and draw my blood sample, making me late for my own work appointments. Based on the other reviews here, this is a pattern, not a one-off situation. My time is valuable too and a valued patient shouldn't be made to wait for such an excessive period of time without even so much as an acknowledgment or apology. I also heard chit-chatting by the staff from inside the patient room which is beyond irritating when you're watching the minutes on the clock tick by, realizing how late you're going to be for your own responsibilities. I was told by the Dr that they would email me with the results of my lab work within about a week. After 3 weeks went by, I emailed to ask about my results and was told they needed my authorization to send me my own information (this after I filled out all their paper forms at the office signing my life away and writing down all the same information they had already collected from me in order to set up the appointment to begin with). So I said okay, you're authorized. Then they just emailed me the raw data with no explanation or note from the doctor about how to interpret them. Hardly the personal touch I had been led to expect from the Dr. My most recent interaction for a Covid test has cemented my decision not to return here. This office was recommended by my longtime OBGYN whom I love (and who, in 15 years has never kept me waiting for an hour and a half). I had high hopes for this office and the Dr was nice during the actual visit but I am very disappointed by my overall experience. read more

I have been a long term patient at PVMG and have always felt that I have been given top quality care. In the past I will admit that the wait time could be longer than expected, however consistently for the last year I have had what I feel are normal or shorter wait times than expected for any medical appointment. The front desk has been responsive and communicate well. When I have called for appointments last minute they have been able to accommodate me. What made me write this review is that recently I have had some medical issues and have received great care and have had to have many forms filled out. The office manager Michelle and Amy who helps to see that forms are completed have been amazing. If there are any questions they reach out in a timely manner and complete the paperwork much quicker than expected. Other offices are taking two weeks or more while this office is timely and professional. When I first read PVMG's e-mail about certain fees I initially questioned them in my head. Then seeing the level of care and the individual treatment in a timely and professional manner not only do I understand them but welcome them if that is what is needed to have quality and timely care. I am so disappointed. I have been coming to this practice for ten years, luckily only for minor issues, and I have bragged--many times-- to friends about the wonderful staff, availability of appointments, and quality of care. I considered myself fortunate to have access to health care like this. But now I have seen behind the curtain, and clearly Palos Verdes Medical does not wish for patients of my caliber to receive the kind of medical care usually reserved for wealthier families. Or, at least, PV Medical Group has no problem dumping its less wealthy patients. When I heard the clinic was instituting a $300 per year membership fee, I paused only for an instant. Yes, I thought, I am willing to pay extra for outstanding medical care and the highly competent staff, and a $300 additional charge is definitely affordable. The devastating blow came when I understood that I could only continue as a cash patient: mere HMO participants are not moneyed enough to partake any longer. If I had an income high enough to afford PPO premiums, then Dr.Scher and his associates would be more than happy to treat me. So with sadness and a good amount of bitterness, I find myself cast out. During the ten years I was a patient here, I enjoyed never worrying about having solid healthcare. This security came from the knowledge that I was attending appointments alongside some of the most privileged families in California and that I was receiving the same level of courtesy and care. I never thought the practice would shamelessly and proudly move to drop "lower" income patients. I understand PV Medical Group is a business, and, of course, the doctors have every right to make as much money as they possibly can. The doctors are under no obligation to try to improve our broken health care systems, even in small ways, at the cost of personal profits. I imagine that, from the practice's perspective, the 2-3 hours of time that I took up each year can be replaced with new patients seeking profitable Botox procedures and other more lucrative ventures. I won't wish your practice "best of luck" -- I'm too worried about finding a new doctor right now. read more

This practice has been outstanding for my three children. The patient care manager has gone out of her way to assist our family several times. Today, I needed a form signed by the physician urgently. My daughter called from scuba camp to tell me that there was a miscommunication about a form that was needed and they would keep her from scuba diving if it wasn't returned. When I called PVMG, the patient care manager calmly reassured me that she could return the form in office that morning. Well, she took care of the form within minutes while I waited in the office. She was so patient and kind. I realize the volume of patients this clinic serves and am so grateful that she stopped what she was doing to assist me! Thank you PVMG! read more

Being sick, annual physicals, school sports check ups, allergy issues, vaccines, emergencies. They have been my dr office for 15 years and they have been consistently amazing. I absolutely recommend them to anyone who is looking for reliable and professional group of physicians. I would also like to add that during Covid, they were one of the only places in the entire region that stayed open and saw Covid patients when other medical offices turned people away or sent people to the ER. I was belatedly diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, negligently left undiagnosed and untreated, and prescribed the wrong medication to treat my condition by the providers at Palos Verdes Medical Group. When my blood work came back showing abnormal thyroid levels, my doctor, Dr. Elinora Madrid ignored my results and did not call me to discuss the results or give me a diagnosis. Neither did Dr. Lawrence Sher, the head doctor of PVMG, or anyone else from the entire PVMG office. Four months later, nurse practitioner Kia Brown re-did the blood work and did call me back, only to prescribe me medication for HYPOthyroidism even though my results indicated serious HYPERthyroidism. She misdiagnosed me even though any medical professional should be able to immediately understand the difference between hypo- and hyperthyroidism, and know how to read a blood chart. My symptoms got much worse, and I only found out I was prescribed the opposite medication of what I need when I saw an endocrinologist for my condition. At this point, all my hormone levels were more severely abnormal. After it became apparent that Dr. Madrid and NP Brown committed these negligent errors, they never called me back to see how I am doing or to apologize, though it has been several months since my consultations with them. All in all, PVMG will either not call you back at all, or call you back with a polite tone...only to misdiagnose you and prescribe you the opposite medication. I received great customer service and care in 2021. I recommended PVMG to a couple of friends. Both friends switched over to PVMG. In January 2022, they both complained about the care they received. This really surprised me.... Until now (February 2022). This month alone, I have had to call multiple times to get refills for my prescriptions. I sit on hold for several minutes waiting to speak to someone about my prescriptions. Today, I got to my appointment a few minutes early. I was taken to a room relatively quickly. I waited much longer than I should have for the doctor. She did not show up. I spoke to the medical assistant and was told it would be at least 20 more minutes. When I asked the medical assistant why she or the office staff didn't tell me the doctor was running an hour and a half late, she took no responsibility and blamed the front office staff for not communicating this to me. I think it's very crappy that the patient is not informed about the doctor running late. Today, at least an hour of my time was unnecessarily wasted because the office staff and medical assistant chose not to communicate with me about the delay of services. It's my opinion that I should have been told of the delay and given the choice to wait, come back in an hour, or reschedule the appointment. read more

We wanted to get our daughter vaccinated for Covid. A friend of my wife recommended this practice as our pediatrician isn't offering the covid-19 vaccine. My wife sent an email and was called back by a woman with a thick accent. She repeatedly asked my wife for the same information over and over, to the point where my wife became concerned with who she was dealing with. She scheduled our appointment for 3:05pm today. We arrived at 2:45 and began filling out information. As we are waiting and trying to keep our nervous 6 year old calm, one of the office staff comes out to tell us that they have no record of our appointment and they are out of the vaccine. Great, I took the afternoon off work for this?! When we told them who we spoke to they acted like they had no idea who it was. Moral of the story, don't even bother... just go to CVS if you can. read more

This office is wildly incompetent. Every single time I get a prescription or anything else from the doctor the front office people send the wrong information to the pharmacy and you end up having to call the office at least 5-6 times to get the correct thing. It happens without fail every single time. They charge you for services they didn't give you and argue with you about what you were prescribed instead of looking at your file. We took Same day PCR Covid tests here on Dec. 20 for travel the day after (our transit plans required us to wait to the day before our first flight to test). That evening we only received 1 out of 4 tests. Around 9pm we are panicked and looking for alternatives. In the mean time my wife emailed the office manager and to our surprise she replied with the remaining tests in quick order. Saved us $750 for a rapid PCR test at the airport! Today I took my daughter to get her covid vaccine for a 315 appointment. She got her shot at 410. Of course the waiting room is packed with people so we wait outside. I check in with the front desk every 15 minutes and they keep asking for her paperwork. I will no longer support a business that doesn't value my time. read more

What a wonderful office and medical group. PV Med Group has always been available, accommodating, friendly, helpful when I'm feeling sick. They've been proactive in treatment and follow up care. It's nice to know they care and want you to feel better. Their COVID testing is also top notch, they have the equipment and turnaround times. Scheduling is a breeze. I can always get a hold of someone by phone or email and they always call you back or reply. So refreshing in a world of virtual appointments. I have been a patient at PVMG since 2019 and have been treated with respect and kindness during every visit over the past 4 years. My younger brother and mother are also patients at PVMG and have had nothing but great experiences with Dr. Sher and Leigh Ann Schmidt who is the Nurse Practitioner. Leigh Ann essentially saved my mother's life in Sep 2022. My mom had her routine physical and upon listening to her heart, Leigh Ann heard a murmur and referred her to a cardiologist for an echo, turns out my mom had a congenital aortic valve disorder with severe stenosis and had to have open heart surgery to have her valve replaced. Leigh Ann, along with the staff at PVMG, are intelligent, patient and very kind. Each visit I have with her she takes her time doing thorough assessments, asking questions and truly listens to what the patient is saying. I love this medical group! read more

I really didn't want to write this review as I think the doctors are probably very good. This review is for the office staff. But it doesn't matter how much you like the doctors if you face frustration at every turn with their office staff. It's difficult to get through on the phone as they rarely answer and if they do, they put you on hold so long I often have to hang up. I actually left the practice because of insurance authorizations that should've taken 2-3 days but took 2-3 weeks and that was after I called the office to inquire why we hadn't heard and learned that they didn't get submitted at all, return calls that never got returned and other administrative problems. I have since found a new doctor who has submitted 4 different insurance authorizations for me and I received them all within 2-3 days! Now my son is going there and the same thing happened to him. Called the office because an authorization that was supposed to take 2-4 days still hasn't happened so when I questioned the office, they say "oh a miscommunication" (in other words, it fell through the cracks....again). I was sorry to leave the practice but it wasn't worth the frustration with the office staff. read more

I've been avoiding the office because of covid, I have asthma. I'm running out of my inhaler medication and I called in to have one refill. They wouldn't do it and insisted that I come in to see the doctor so I did. At my appointment they insisted on a breathing test for a medication I've been taking for the last 30 years I told him I just need one refill until my physical, which is scheduled in less than 30 days. They refused and started lecturing me on how I'm abusing my medication, the same medication I've taken to manage my asthma since I was 13. this is not the first time I've experienced their incompetence. When I scheduled a sleep study for my apnea they screwed it up three times and delayed my sleep study for almost 6 months. This place prides themselves on service and frankly they're horrible. They're just concerned about positive social media reviews and they're not concerned about my health care. It's only when I bring it to light does the office manager get involved and it's only because they're concerned about their Yelp stars. Horrible health care providers. I'm giving it two stars and not one as they at least had my husbands Covid test results back in 2 days. We had an appt for drive thru testing on Monday. My husband and I both in the car, got swabbed and left. He got his results, I still didn't. I called this morning to follow up and they had no clue what happened to my test. I go to palos verdes medical group to get tested for covid almost on a monthly basis. Sometimes twice a month during the recent surge. I'm a personal trainer and work with people. So to make sure I'm all good I get it done regularly. Everyone should. Anyhow...... the staff at palos verdes medical group are always great. Every time I call to make an appointment or have to reschedule. They treat me with such great respect and care. The staff at the testing tent are also very pro and very nice.
