Dalton Hospitality had not long catered the first Brisbane Diner En Blanc and I'd been hearing Jerome's (Dalton's fearless leader) name and praise for his food left, right and centre. Dalton Hospitality is how I became to be one of those people who have their picnic catered. And you know what? I don't regret it for a second, and here's why. Following my initial enquiry with Jerome, he worked one-on-one with me to develop a casual picnic menu for the day and within my budget. Tick. On the day he went out of his way to meet me at the picnic location to deliver the food all presented in beautiful cane picnic baskets to add to the atmosphere. Tick. I still hadn't seen the food until myself and the Yelpers started tucking into the gourmet delights that awaited. To say there was more than enough food is an understatement. We were spoilt for choice from fresh garden salads, smoked salmon salad baguettes, anti-pasto platters with brie and my favourite - the chocolate tart which got better once it warmed up a little. It had a subtle jaffa taste to it. None of us left the picnic hungry. After the picnic, Jerome arranged a time to come and collect the picnic baskets. All no fuss and just part of the service. Exceptional. Jerome and the Dalton team were so easy to work with and I know that by comparison, this picnic was a small scale task for them, however I was never made feel like it was any less important. I would gladly put Dalton to the top of any list where catering was called for!

Short on time, special…read moreoccasiosn and the stakes are high, or just out to impress; Sharyn and her daughter are who you are going to call for a cheese board to keep the fussiest of tastebuds delighted. Case in point. For a recent event I could have easily constructed cheese and charcuterie myself. But, after following TCP on Instagram and drooling over their cheese-prowess, I threw caution to the wind and outsourced that shizz. And you know what? No regrets. After briefing Sharyn on the number of guests, the style of event and what kind of crowd we'd be entertaining the creation of my cheese boards was left in very capable hands. Sharyn arrived on the night about an hour before showtime (enough time to let the cheese warm to room temp, she said) and set about creating the cheese that would indeed please an audience. The price for the boards includes cheese, charcuterie, bread and crackers. Plus all instruments for eating (cheese knives and boards). For the lack of stress alone it was worth every penny. Plus I don't think I've ever seen two cheese boards devoured with such ferocity. On a side note, if you want to meet and try the delights of TCP but don't have an excuse to feature them at an event, they have a stall at the Powerhouse Jan Power's Markets each week.

A young woman greeted us at the service desk and presented us with seats outside, we looked out at the bay admiring the lights of the hornibrook bridge and further along to kipparing and woody point. The staff member behind the counter was able to describe what food we had queries about. The food was a little more expensive than what I would of liked to pay but the food made up for it in the end. All and all I had enjoyable night with my partner and I will be back to visit soon.

We settled on either Sandgate or Shorncliffe but as we passed the local fish and chip shops we were put off by the 10 deep queues. We noticed the Full Moon Hotel, which is neslted along the beach road, high on a cliff overlooking the water and bushland. We were lucky enough to snag a table with a view, although the table wasn't clean it seemed a better prospect than being sandwiched amongst the other diners without a view. The tables are set very close together to the point where I can tell you the business of all the diners who sat near us. The menu is a little expensive for what I would consider to be bistro style food. We settled on the beer battered Fish and Chips for twenty-one bucks a plate. It was well presented and tasted fresh but it didn't stand out from any other fish and chip plate I have had in the past. The customer service was friendly but in a superficial kind of way, I didn't feel like my experience was really all that important to them. It was nice to be able to walk off the stodgy fish and chips along the boardwalk afterwards. Good option if all the fish and chip shops are closed or too busy.

The staff are so attentive and helpful. When I was giving my presentation, we needed a laptop because my Mac wouldn't work. They were so quick to come to the rescue. As soon as the meeting begings, they bring out the hot breakfast promptly and also provide a self-serve cereal station and toast/jam on the table. They will come by and offer tea and coffee and have water and orange juice at each table. I think it'd be a great place to have a function and I love the staircase that takes you upstairs. I really enjoy coming to this venue. The Brisbane Polo Club has a dress code of smart casual so that's important to keep in mind as well.

It's a workers pub really with a couple of well sized out door areas. The plus was free pool from 2-4 on a Sunday. Our other pleasant surprise was our bowl of chips. Dusted with herbs & chicken salt they were great with the aioli. I do have to say I love that they serve Somersby cider as its one of my favorites. All in all, not bad for a quick drink, but at the end of the day it is just another pub in the vein of leagues clubs et al.

A bit silly, but we were in desperate need of a feed and some coffee. Slightly sleepy, and very hungover, we managed to string a sentence together to inform them that we would like a table for breakfast if there's one available. They were prompt, though clearly a little agitated that we hadn't made a booking, which confused me seeing as the restaurant was virtually empty. After pushing a bunch of tables together we were happily seated and ordered our coffee and breakfast. The menu was pretty standard with staples such as eggs benedict, omelette and muesli. I ordered the grilled haloumi and thought it was delicious, but some of my friends weren't happy with their meals like the omelette that was more mushroom than egg. Oh well, you can't please everyone but I enjoyed my meal. The coffee was good and our bill was very reasonable considering I had always considered Eve's a high-end restaurant previously. One thing about this place is that the view over the river is stunning. It's got a great relaxed vibe to it, which is probably why it is hugely popular for functions and weddings. It was a lovely dining experience and I'd definitely like to go back to see what they offer for lunch and dinner.

The wait staff were prompt, friendly and very warm and I quickly recovered from my paranoia. I was very excited to find gluten friendly menu items were highlighted and there was a nice array of options for me to choose from. I ordered the Confit Duck Leg w red curry sauce, lychee & jasmine rice (small serving) and my partner ordered the Market Fish w a crisp pumpkin & peanut dumpling w hot and sour dressing and heart of palm & coriander salad. Drinks flowed with conversation and we felt very looked after. The meals arrived after a thirty minute wait to much rapture - the wait staff explained the confit was a complex meal to prepare and apologised for the wait profusely, but they needn't have bothered. The succulent flesh and amazing flavour of the duck leg completely justified the wait time. I savoured every moment of what I can only describe as "the perfect dish". Lychee was meant to be eaten with red curry sauce, and jasmine rice provides the perfect fragrant partnership. My partner was impressed with his market fish but lamented that he should have gone with the Eye Fillet - an unfortunate case of post-order remorse. We both agreed that we will definitely be coming back to this gorgeous location. Eves on the River feels so homely and comfortable but in a strong and confident way. I can't wait to explore the menu further and enjoy more balmy evenings on the water.
