A perfect cafe experience for me consists of outdoor seating, a solid selection of sweet and savory laminated pastries, and coffee that is served in proper glassware. For that in and of itself, Pan con Madre is a winner. This is the first cafe we stopped by on our week in Oaxaca and it was so good we went back later in the week. Staff is very friendly and helpful, offering recommendations if you have trouble making up your mind. There is a sense of leisure in the outdoor seating area and just sitting there in silence was quite peaceful to me. Iced lattes were very solid and they have oat milk as well! I wouldn't come here expecting a croissant in the traditional French style, it definitely has a Oaxacan twist, but that is what makes it so special and worthwhile :)

best concha i've ever had. the vanilla shell was sweet and actually tasted like vanilla (not just sweet like many conchas). unlike many other conchas i've had where the bread is more dry, the bread was as soft as a croissant. i fear that i won't able to have concha as amazing again i didn't get to take a photo because my bf and i scarfed it down. service was good and the bakery had a very warm ambiance

The panque de plátano (rebanada) was moist and full of flavor and the iced Américano excellent. They speak English.

Artisanal bakery on the higher end. The bread is made from scratch daily and there is a variety of breads to choose from. We tried the maracuya tarta, almond croissant, ham croissant, dulce de leche croissant and plain croissant. There is no wrong option. Everything is delicious. Our favorite was the dulce de leche and almond croissant. For drinks we tried the americano and cardamom latte. Americano was a bit on the basic side and the cardamon latte had an earthy taste. Def recommend checking this place if you're in Oaxaca.

We stayed down the street from here and ate hot pastries every morning. They have a list of baking times for various pastries and serve coffee too. I suggest the chocolate bun.

Wow it's like being back in Paris the croissant amazing that's all I can say. If you ever visite Oaxaca you need to come and have coffee and there pastries. At Pan de Madre

Absolutely fantastic bagels. They have lots of other pastries & breads that I'm sure are great, too. Nice patio to sit & eat.

Terrible...for diets. Wonderful for sharing a coffee and treat with a companion (get it? Con-pan-ion).

An Oasis on the outskirts of Central Oaxaca City. It's definitely worth the walk!…read more The Patio is a tropical haven from the heat. You have to try a few items on the menu and share plates. We ordered a few items and were completely satisfied with everything! The food tasted extremely fresh! Just look at the vibrant colors that cover the plates. The Toast Con Pina was a delicious way to finish breakfast, which was served with a side of fruit. I'm not going to describe the food here, because the pictures I was able to capture say it all. The color, the texture, the layers, the aroma...as they say, you eat with your eyes. You can sneak a peek at the ladies in the back making the bread from scratch in an open-space area that's hard to ignore. You are captivated by every inch of this place. The live music by a violinist, just "wow"!!! Oaxaca is represented well by this place!

Step off the sidewalk a few steps into a gated street to find this gorgeous courtyard restaurant…read more At 6pm, I had the place to myself. This hidden gem has a small but diverse menu of fresh and tasty dishes. It's mango season, so I jumped at the salad option. I could have had more jicama, but the salad is a nice change from the meat/tortilla/queso diet I've been on the last week and a half. Ceviche is a big deal in Oaxaca, and this is one of the best I've ever had. The coconut milk is an unexpected and refreshing twist that adds a depth of flavor to this delicious fish. I was also pleasantly surprised by the sauvignon blanc from Baja, California. This lovely Cafe offers breakfast, lunch and dinner Tuesday through Saturday and breakfast only on Sunday and Monday. Check the Google Maps listing for hours, that seems to match what's posted at the restaurant. And if you're wondering what a Chepiche is, it's a Mexican herb apparently similar to cilantro often used to season meats. That explains the very herb/vegetable forward menu. Reminds me a lot of California farm-to-fork cuisine. Great Playlist of extremely romantic soft rock/folk music in Spanish. I've been Shazamming almost every song! This is not my cheapest meal in Oaxaca by far, but sometimes self care looks like a date night for one. Thanks, Chepiche Cafe. You were just what I needed and more tonight.
