Absolutely excellent spot with wonderful pastries and bread. Their coffee is also great and STRONG. The iced americano I had lit me up like a Christmas tree. It's really cute in their courtyard and they have much cleaner and nicer bathrooms than I've seen in most places in Oaxaca. I had a bagel yesterday for a mere 20 pesos and it was one of the best bagels I've ever had. And as a Jew from New York that's probably one of the highest compliments i can give. I also had a slice of chocolate cake which was excellent. A tad pricey at 75 pesos but worth every one. Wish they had more prepared foods outside of pizza and cold sandwiches as I'm sure they'd be excellent. Overall a fabulous place and I'll definitely be back. read more

Picked up a few pastries and they were amazing. The experience was easy. Love the bakeries of Oaxaca and this was one of the top ones!

A perfect cafe experience for me consists of outdoor seating, a solid selection of sweet and savory laminated pastries, and coffee that is served in proper glassware. For that in and of itself, Pan con Madre is a winner. This is the first cafe we stopped by on our week in Oaxaca and it was so good we went back later in the week. Staff is very friendly and helpful, offering recommendations if you have trouble making up your mind. There is a sense of leisure in the outdoor seating area and just sitting there in silence was quite peaceful to me. Iced lattes were very solid and they have oat milk as well! I wouldn't come here expecting a croissant in the traditional French style, it definitely has a Oaxacan twist, but that is what makes it so special and worthwhile :) read more

Artisanal bakery on the higher end. The bread is made from scratch daily and there is a variety of breads to choose from. We tried the maracuya tarta, almond croissant, ham croissant, dulce de leche croissant and plain croissant. There is no wrong option. Everything is delicious. Our favorite was the dulce de leche and almond croissant. For drinks we tried the americano and cardamom latte. Americano was a bit on the basic side and the cardamon latte had an earthy taste. Def recommend checking this place if you're in Oaxaca. read more

There are good bakeries and there's great bakeries! Pan con Madre definitely falls into the latter. But this business is also a cafe. I came here on the recommendation of a friend here in Oaxaca Centro for baked goods, and did not stay to try the food. I can tell you the food looks delicious, and the pastries are definitely first class. Not too sweet, fresh, crumbly, and well worth the walk to get here. I was pleasantly surprised. First the service was very friendly. I definitely recommend trying Pan con Madre if you're in or near the Zócalo. Even if you're not Taxis are inexpensive. 5 stars! read more

Run, don't walk to this bakery if you want a change from Mexican baked goods. Everything is baked on premises and you can buy right as the goods come out of the oven. The baguettes are better than Panera or any bakery I am familiar with in CA. Bagels are great, as is the banana bread and the choc croissants. Service is good and the kids who work here are sweet. Coffee is from freshly ground beans. My only criticism is the stumps of wood they provide to sit on for enjoying your purchase on site. read more

Not your everyday panaderia! This is our go-to bakery, just down the street from where we are. There is a small variety of bread, including whole grain ('integral"), english muffins, scones, and chocolate cake. Daily quantities are not huge (it's all made on site), so different breads often sell out, and it's not always available on a predicable schedule. Most days, there is bread in the morning, but one day, it wasn't there til mid-afternoon, so we got fresh out of the oven bread. There's no permanent sign outside, and the characteristics are similar to another business listed here on Garcia Vigil, so I'm wondering if it's sort of a pop-up business, or one looking for a permanent home. They have sandwiches to go, flatbread, cookies, crossiants. We prefer it to Boulenc even though it's way smaller . Closed Sundays.
