The chair where her clients sit had wears and tears in the chair. I had showed her a picture of the color I wanted to achieve beforehand. Asked her repeatedly if she was able to do the highlights for my hair and ash brown to my roots. She told me that it was doable. Once she started the process to color my hair, she said that dark brown would be applied. I had told her that is not the color I want for my roots, and then told me that she was using ash brown instead. After the color was processed, we went to go and rinse out my hair. She did not put a towel under my neck to rest on the sink. It was very uncomfortable and disturbing. After my hair was rinsed, we returned back to the chair and my hair was dried. I looked in the mirror and I was in complete shock and very disappointed of how it turned out. My roots were a lighter color and the rest was dark brown away from my roots. Before the color was applied to my hair, my highlights had already grown from my roots. She did not do the highlights to my hair at all after the color was done. I told her that it was not what I wanted at all. She kept insisting that it was what I asked for. Then she told me that I would be charged more for the color. I told her that I would not be paying more than what she asked for and that my hair was already ruined by her. The response was that she does not do light colors on her clients and does dark brown. I would not recommend anyone to her for a hair color or highlights at all. She did the complete opposite of what I wanted and it was horrible. This is by far the worst encounter I've ever had with a hair stylist and salon I have ever been too. Please do not waste your time and money here. It was very unprofessional and very unsatisfying experience over all!! You can see in the picture that it was not done as shown in the picture to the right. Complete disaster and absolutely not worth going to her at all! This was done two weeks ago!

I learned about this place through a friend of mine, as well as a co-worker. They both told me that everyone is really sweet and suggested I try it since I was in a desperate need of a styling. So I popped in after work one day, not entirely sure if they did walk-ins or not. Maureen was there and happily greeted me. She wasn't able to get me in that night, but kindly asked if I'd be able to come back the next time she was working, which was in 2 days or suggested she schedule me for someone else the following day. I was fine with waiting the extra day since she was so nice and helpful, I even made an appointment for my boyfriend per his request (I don't tell my boyfriend he should get a haircut, if he wants to grow it out more power to him). I showed up not knowing what kind of cut I wanted or needed. I'm the worst when it comes to getting my haircut, I always tell the stylist to surprise me. I don't do it to be mean, I do it because I completely 100% trust in them, even if I've never been to them before. It's because this is their profession and they should know more about it than me, they should understand how hair-styles work on different types of face shapes, and how hair itself is all different. Maureen seems to know her stuff! She was a little surprised at me telling her to surprise me, so she started throwing out suggestions. I just told her whatever she thought would be best and the fact that it's hair and will grow back. She laughed and said alright! She did a great job, gave me some layers that added some volume, even gave me a little side bang type thing. After she finished I asked her if she had time to do my eyebrows, she was able to get me right in after cutting my boyfriends hair. She did a great job with my eyebrows and was really gentle, well as gentle as you can be while ripping hot wax off of someones face. My boyfriend has some crazy thick hair. According to him (and the floor after she was finished) she did an awesome job thinning it out and styling it for him. He was really happy with his cut.

Anjelica (and all of the staff I encountered) were incredibly attentive to what I wanted and went out their way to make the experience comfortable. I have lived in Hollywood and San Francisco and been to some high end hipster places in my time, and I can confidently say I have never had a better experience than I did today. I decided to try it out for a cut and color before a trip south to visit family. I wanted a dramatic change so I requested a senior stylist and made an appointment with Mileena for cut and color, and Karlie for brow wax and tint. I had shoulder length dark blonde/light brown hair with lighter blonde highlights but I missed having bold hair. I mentioned when I scheduled I was thinking about going cool red/purple with a peachy money piece and they passed the note to my stylist. Mileena already had an idea in mind when I sat down. She mixed 3 colors for the perfect red and off we went. She was so sweet to talk to, and everyone in the salon had a great vibe. When we first finished I wasn't thrilled with the money piece (my roots rebelled the peach) and we game planned to try a pink overlay to fix the neon orange tones. Took just a little longer and I felt so bad asking for a change but Mileena wanted this project to be perfect! And it turned out amazing. She is INCREDIBLE, I'm so happy with my hair! Karlie was also very wonderful. We game planned the shape of my brow (I sucked at telling her I didn't want them so rounded but she understood) and asked if I preferred wax or threading. I didn't care so she did a mix of both to get the perfect shape, and she tinted my brows a touch darker to match the new tones of my hair. She is located in Mountain View in one of the recently built residential on top, business on bottom, combo buildings. You can schedule via telephone or online. Keep in mind, she is usually only taking appointments during the weekends. Once at your appointment, you park in the back of the building and you enter a code via the backdoor. Island Style has large windows that look out into the main road. The shop is quaint and clean. Black and Red is her vibe. She has a large mounted TV for your entertainment. I personally see Kawehi for "long hair Hollywood blowouts" for me and/or my daughter. Despite having ethnic hair, I'm in and out in an hour and a half. Lots of stylists call themselves "master stylists," but they can't handle ethnic hair FYI, it's a total joke. Any way, the amazing Kawehi is outgoing and always makes great conversation. Her prices are definitely competitive. I would be asked to pay almost double for the same service elsewhere. She colors my mothers hair often, so I can say she is definitely an expert in that arena also.
