Looking forward to pancakes for breakfast and they were open at 6 AM. The interior of the restaurant was spartan but clean. Prices were affordable. We ordered the Big Breakfast (eggs, sausage, biscuit and two pancake) and blueberry pancakes. The scrambled eggs were fine, the sausage and biscuit tasted like they were reheated. For a restaurant named the "Pancake House" the pancakes were disappointing. They were small and thin - barely thicker than crepes. The syrups were watered down. The blueberry sauce for the blueberry pancakes was just thawed frozen blueberries. Nothing was bad but nothing was great. If you're craving great pancakes in Liberal, continue your search. read more

Within moments of arriving I knew we had made the right decision. The second we were seated the server had hot coffee ready to pour and drink orders working. I had the strawberry pancakes. If you don't stop here you are missing out. First of we both ate breakfast for less than $20!! The wait staff was amazing my coffee was never even half empty (and she gave me a cup to go). Stopped here on our road trip to Chicago. My daughter says there's a Pancake House on Pancake Blvd, let's go! Since we were going through there, we thought why not! Driving all night we needed to stretch out and have breakfast anyway... So, of course! On to the pancakes! So glad we found this gem of a place! The service was excellent! The hostess and waitress were very nice and friendly! Oh, and talk about pancakes, they had every kind you could think of! In addition to pancakes, they also had waffles, crepes, and your normal breakfast items. I got the bacon & eggs with a side of pecan pancakes. My daughter had banana pancakes with a side of sausage and home fries. And our friend had chicken fried steak with home fries and a side of blueberry pancakes. It didn't take long for us to get our food. Everything was delicious! We were back on the road in less than an hour. If we are ever back this way, I'll definitely come back! read more

I challenged the owner to build me a cooks choice meal. Excellent coffee (a must), multi ingredient pancakes trio. This is a pancake restaurant by the way. Very flavorful warm house syrup to top the toasted pecans. The chef built me a fresh vegetable and meat omelette paired with an excellent American fries side. I have made this challenge many places. Good place to eat. It was diner food for the most part but the pancakes and waffles/ Dutch pancakes are way superior to everything else. We had banana pancakes and a side of eggs. Along with oatmeal. The oatmeal is nothing to write home about and could be skipped but it was really the only gluten free thing on the menu other than eggs. The banana pancakes were an 8/10 they had great flavor, and we added pecans which made them even better. Definitely not a fancy place but cheap prices and great waffles & pancakes. If you're in the mood for some good tasting gluten definitely get a stack of cakes! You can easily finish 6 if you are hungry as 3 weren't that much! read more

Moving on down the road to the Pancake House, located in at 640 E Pancake Blvd in Liberal - a city who pronounces themselves as some sort of pancake capital of the United States - I'll simply say that from the moment we walked in I wanted to leave - and wished more and more that we'd have ordered the full dozen at the Donut Whole. Stating up front that I really did not expect "great" things from The Pancake House, what I did hope for was good service and decent pancakes - the first inexplicably absent as our server essentially threw menus on the table before us before sauntering off and subsequently offered only the bare minimum of human interaction necessary to fulfill her duties as she hammed it up with a table of septuagenarian men at the table across the way. Moving onto the food - focusing on the options deemed "house specialties" on the store's menu - I was admittedly pleasantly surprised by my mother's $5.50 Dutch Pancake which was crispy on the edges and pillowy soft within, but my "massive" apple pancake (a pancake for which the restaurant has a 'wall of fame' praising those who finish it) was doughy, largely flavorless, and the apple almost imperceptible without the apple syrup. It was also quite small - I finished it on principle along with two buttermilk biscuits and could have easily finished another, though I'm not sure why anyone would want to...though I guess it's nice to know that my name exists in the bright lights of Liberal, Kansas for my efforts. read more

This is our kids' favorite place to eat. There is a large variety of pancake and crepe options, which is their best offering. The customer service is excellent and the establishment is very clean. When it comes to most of the food on the menu, nothing dazzles, but it's all good. It feels nostalgic. read more

Best place in town for an All-American breakfast! If there isn't a line to go in, you usually get to your table or booth fairly quickly. It can get pretty busy and crowded but it's worth it. Their large variety pancakes and crepes melt in your mouth. The service is fast but it depends on how busy the place is too. However, the employees take care of everyone and are always happy to refill your coffee while you wait. Always cheerful with a smile, and aren't scared of small talk or questions you may have about Liberal. If you aren't sure what to get during your visit I suggest my favorite: a meal deal of two eggs over easy with home fries (so good), bacon, and a stack of wheat germ pancakes sprinkled with powdered sugar! Like a challenge? Try the apple pancake! It takes 20 minutes to bake and is MASSIVE! But if you manage to finish it, you get your name on a "they ate the whole thing" list of fame. This place is rich in good, people and history. It's really important to the city of Liberal and just proves that there's no place like home! read more

The apple pancakes are soooooo worth the wait and like nothing I have ever tasted - delicious! Added a side of bacon and egg cooked overhard and they were both cooked perfectly! Better here for breakfast choices. Waffle, ham, eggs, burned potatoes coming. Ham was pretty good. Potatos also real good. Waffle not dark enough so sent back to burn more.
