Great little spot. The food is tasty and fresh and the prices are unbeatable. Our server, Esperanza, was so sweet and efficient.

Heading down 54 Highway West and we were so hungry. We asked Siri about restaurants and we were so glad we found Plains Tavern! We were greeted with warm, friendly service and the cheeseburgers and fries were so good! They had a nice variety of food on their menu and we went away as happy customers!! Try it!

Still the best place to go on Saturday night. We go at least once every six weeks or so. Great steaks, appetizers, sides and atmosphere.

It was then I remembered glancing at a huge Beef Processing Plant just on the edge of town...think it was called National Beef... And then it hit me: Cattleman's Cafe + Beef Processing Plant...maybe...just maybe..they served steak here That's how I found myself sitting inside this Midwestern country diner. The description on the menu-- Uncle Ed's Steak sounded legitimate. So I had me a rib eye, with a side of corn and Brocolli. Then to start off, some Bloomin Onions. Rating: Ok, I'm going to be real honest, the quality of the beef is *Good* Its on the level of USDA Choice Select, but it IS fresh. Like I can enjoy the natural flavors of the Beef, it's not drenched in marinade and just the overall taste spelled decent quality. Now, because back in the days, I would go out to Costco and pick up USDA Prime Ribeyes three or 4 cuts at under 45.00 (those were the good times). But it wouldn't be fair to compare this to that so for a standard family run affair, this place serves pretty solid steak. Though however the chef kinda went on the rarer side for my Medium Rare and if the cuts have so much fat marbling in them, it probably would be better for the steak to be grilled longer on the fat tissues. The corn sides were a little to sweet and wished they either cut down on the sugar, or use some heavy whipping cream or half and half to balance that sweetness out-- like real creme corn. The Bloomin Onions were a surprise. Over the past decades, I'd probably only order this appetizer at say Outback Steakhouse, but this dish does take the prize for a worthy starter here at the Cattleman's. Overall, server was very locked in. True country hospitality, think her name is Naziah. Kudos! Great service! And anyone ever driving through town, give this place a go.

The catch fried steak was huge. I ate part and took the rest to eat for breakfast the next morning. Everything came out hot and tasty I was very happy with my meal here I would come back.

I also ordered a martini, which in itself should've been a roll of the dice, but it was awesome. Give it a shot. I think you'll find something to appreciate here.

No Ambiance and with no music we have to listen to the tables ok the other side of the room chomp their chips. Annoying. Dad asked server what local beers they have available and she suggested Goose Island IPA, not local. He ordered beer and it sat on the bar for 5 minutes before finally making its way to us (we weren't going to help ourselves even though we assumed it was his). My water was brought immediately though so points there. Ordered the Supreme Quesadilla and the Dead Man's Handle (jalapeño poppers). The poppers were great. Dad raved about the chips that came with the quesadillas. Salsa was spicy, which we like. Quesadilla we did chicken. Not sure what makes it supreme. It was fine. Comes with salsa, guacamole and sour cream. The portions of the sauces were a joke. No lettuce or tomato or anything. Service after the initial weird stuff was good. She checked in on us and was quick with the check.

I was informed that it was one of the best steak house in town, although the population is only 26,000 there's not much here. The outside looks like a cement building. The entrance is on the side. They have a cute renovated outdoor patio that is secured with a cement wall. The inside when you walk in you immediately at the hostess stand, and then off to the right is the bathrooms. They have some cute western photos hanging up throughout the restaurant. Once you go past the hostess stand, you enter into the huge open floor dining area with bar. In the back, they have some seating in a small area that has a carved out window for when they have bingo night with a DJ. They also have another area off to the side. That is another small dining area. The dining area looks remodeled and updated. The bathrooms look remodeled it's a mixture of wood floors and carpet throughout the restaurant. From the inside of the restaurant to the dining area to the bar and into the bathroom is very clean. The menu offers a variety of choices from fish, chicken burgers to steaks. I got the appetizer potato skins. They were good your regular potato skins that you would have at any restaurant. They serve complementary rolls with a honey cinnamon butter. They were served hot and tasted amazing. For dinner, I got a filet mignon with a side of mashed potatoes and gravy and a side salad. The side salad was nothing special tasted like it came straight out of a bag however, the ranch was tasty and it is made in house. The mashed potatoes were good, but definitely not the best I've had. The gravy is regular gravy brown and the filet mignon was tender and tasted like it just came off a grill. My server was Alexis and she was prompt. She greeted me. She offered suggestions on the menu. She recommended her items that she thought were the best. She checked on me frequently after my food arrived. She was attentive and she was very kind. The restaurant manager also checked on me several times which was nice because most restaurants barely check on you one time as a manager. Overall, this restaurant was good, especially with not many options in town. It definitely gave a steakhouse with diner vibes. They have music night they have bingo karaoke. Again, it's a very small town so kind of gives you a little mixture of your food but also a good nightlife after 9 o'clock. Cheers

The outside of the restaurant is very nice appealing inviting clean. Once I stepped in the door, the hostess was there to greet me. He asked if I wanted to sit in the sporty side or if I wanted to sit in the upscale luxury side. I opted to sit in the upscale dining area as the sporty area was really busy. Both areas looked very clean. Everything looks neat and in place. My server was Daisy. She was really nice. She was kind attentive and did ask if I had any questions and made recommendations. The food was the worst part. Everyone gets complementary bread and butter. The bread on the outside looks like it might've been a little undercooked. It was a very light in color when I cut it open in the middle. It was pure dough. A gentleman had come to my table, and I informed him that the bread was doughy in the middle and requested another loaf of bread. The gentleman came back with bread that was also still very doughy in the middle. He told me he would bake another one, but at this point, I figured it's fine. I don't need the bread. The potato skins were really good. The ranch however, tasted like something sweet was dropped in it like a vinegar et there was something with the ranch. I don't know what was in it, but it tasted it had like a tangy sweet taste. I was not a fan of the ranch dressing. At this point, it made me very nervous to order anything else so I just opted to do dessert as most places can't mess up a dessert. I got the Molten lava cake with vanilla ice cream. That as I suspected was very good. Unfortunately, I won't be revisiting this restaurant. They have potential to be a great place, but the food definitely lacks a lot. Cheers!
