I saw 2 different providers and needless to say I was not at all happy with the care I received. So the search continued... I had my first appointment with Dr. Marie Monticciolo in Rocky Hill yesterday. I felt that I needed to complete a review for the entire process, start to finish. From the time I called to schedule my appointment until the time I scheduled my next appointment was completely fabulous!! The staff at the desk were SO friendly. Dr. Marie Monticciolo also was so friendly... and knowledgeable...and thorough! She took me into her office first, and went through all of my active diagnoses and medications... then took me across the hall to the exam room and did a full assessment. I needed to make a follow up appointment per her request for something she was concerned about. She gave me some papers I'd need from her to have a few things done like blood work, and I was on my way!! The appointment took about an hour and I sincerely feel positive! She made me extremely comfortable and listened to!! I would highly recommend her to anyone whose looking for a PCP. A+ from office staff to Dr. Marie Monticciolo !!! Both her and her…read morehusband (Richard Monticciolo, MD) run an internal medicine practice where one on one patient care is not seen as an inconvenience but as an integral part of their treatment philosophy. Prior to initiating treatment with Dr. Monticciolo, I was treated with several physicians through Hartford Medical Group. However, I was finding it increasingly hard to get an appointment, and once I did I found that I spent longer in the waiting room than actually having a consult with my physician. Many times I was not even seen by an M.D. but his or her PA. Regardless of who saw me, half the appointment was spent reviewing my medical history before getting to why I was actually there. I felt that I was a co-pay and not a patient and upon that realization I knew it was time for a change. Since I have begun to see Dr. Monticciolo, I have ALWAYS been treated by her. The practice is small (just her and her husband) and there is not a lot of frills to their office. You will not find your medical records stored electronically or fancy diagnostic tools, but what you will find is a doctor that knows her patients, is willing to talk (yes - talk) with them in her office before the examination, and refer you to another physician if she feels it is necessary. My medical records may be handwritten but I know that they have all been meticulously written by Dr. Monticciolo who - from the routine wellness visit to more serious matters - will give me sound medical advice and excellent patient care.

On the day I have the visit, I had to reschedule from an earlier time to a later time, so I was able to get in contact with Jessica at the front desk, who was very very professional and friendly btw! I am rescheduled for a later date and the Doctor who I was to see via telehealth had never called me so I called Jessica again and she was very prompt at getting the Doctor on the phone with me. The doctor either wasn't notified but the first thing she said was "well you cancelled you're appointment"....a little on the unprofessional side for me, because I didn't get a "Hello", "Sorry about the mix up" , nothing. So I know I'm not going to get far in this visit because you have to pay for these things but I was expecting just a little more. I told her my concerns and the first thing she ran down was the price...It made me feel like she was deterring me. I was really looking for what were their potential plans of action just baseline for their patients. All in all I wouldn't proceed just on the tone of the first telehealth visit.

Therefore, I can only persuade new patients to avoid this office. I called the Hartford Healthcare line to get an appointment in Avon. Honestly, I didn't care who the appt was with. I am not feeling the greatest and being new to the area, I was hoping to be seen and then establish a primary care doctor. I was scheduled with this doctor. Again, I would like to mention that I am unwell with obvious symptoms. I show up for my appt 15 mins early. All my personal information is gouged out of me. My insurance card is run and copay is paid. The nurse even calls me in. But then I am told that since this doctor is not currently accepting new patients I cannot be seen. So again, this is a sick patient who came all the way in with a legitimate appointment and was turned away due to their admin error. The office did not even have the decency to let the doctor see me based on my illness. Of course I am livid and will recommend no one to come here. Primary care physicians are plenty and being treated like this as a sick patient is a violation of your oath not to mention human decency. Totally not worth the effort for just a family practitioner.

(example, i came in and said "i read about this diagnosis, and i thought maybe this was connected to these symptoms" even though it is rare and usually affects people twice my age she sent me to the right specialist, i didnt even tell the specialist my ideas, i ended up being right and being diagnosed with it. she was the 4rth doctor i had seen across 2 years regarding my issues, and the only one who got it right! )

My last visit was with Rebecca Randazzo and she was delightful. The check-in staff are efficient and friendly and their blood draw is the best I've ever been to.

He is thoughtful and thorough and courteous . Unfortunately I cannot say that about his office and I hope that he hears this so that he can make some changes . I wish I could give zero stars. Absolutely HORRID experience. This is the location of my former…read morePCP. I saw her many years ago when I selected her as my PCP and I liked her. I still like her and find her to be compassionate during our in-person appointments, however the complete and total incompetence of this office makes it impossible to move forward with Hartford Healthcare Medical Group for me personally and I will be switching PCP's as a result. The first red flag was many years ago, after I first met my PCP and was prescribed an anti-anxiety medication. I was traveling out of state when it ran out and at that time I had apparently gone through all my refills, so when I contacted them to let them know I was out, they said they could not issue any more refills without me coming in person to the office. I was 3,000 miles away so this was not possible, and I was essentially forced to quit the medication cold turkey, rather than safely wean off. This was dangerous and an unpleasant experience, however I took responsibility for my role in that I should have been better prepared/made sure I would be able to refill my prescriptions while I was traveling. I decided to keep my PCP and give another chance. I regret this deeply. Last month, I was unexpectedly hospitalized for almost a week. Upon discharge, I followed-up with my PCP. Again, she was kind and compassionate in person and I liked her very much. The office, however, dropped the ball in such a way that is completely unforgivable and the only silver lining is that I will NEVER deal with them again. At my follow-up appointment with my PCP, I reviewed my labs from the hospital with her and I was given a referral to a specialist. I learned the following day that the specialist was not covered by my insurance. I contacted the PCP office for a new referral to someone I have coverage with. It has been utter hell ever since - the specialist informed the PCP office they needed my labs and after WEEKS of calling nearly daily, the PCP office still has not sent my labs to the specialist. Today, the PCP's medical assistant, Denise, called to inform me I'd have to call the hospital and have THEM send my labs to the specialist. Why wasn't I told this WEEKS ago? Why did they tell me nearly daily that they would send them, only to not? Why was my PCP able to go over the hospital labs with me during my follow-up appointment, but is unable to send them to the specialist for me with the referral? Hartford Healthcare has left me in a position unable to get care, and I will be reporting this matter as well as never doing "business" with Hartford Healthcare ever again. This is health negligence and I cannot fathom them treating older patients this way who may not have the stamina or wherewithal to spend hours a day on the phone for weeks, as I have endured. I highly recommend going elsewhere for your medical care! Trust me, if you ever find yourself unexpectedly hospitalized as I did, this is NOT who you want your critical health care follow ups to be through!! It's downright dangerous for your health (not to mention the toll on mental health). Patients beware!
