My sister, nephew, and I did the Wizard Trials escape room over the holidays and really enjoyed it! It was our first time doing an escape room so we didn't know quite what to expect especially since it's a bit expensive. We REALLY enjoyed the challenge and working as a team, although I would suggest no more than 5 people in the room at a time and be sure you work well with the people joining you. The staff was great; very friendly and accommodating since one of our party was running late. Have fun!!

We didn't escape, but still left smiling!

The room was very cool, and we had a blast! Our game host, Jim was great too. Our only complaint would be that one of the puzzles where we needed to see letters light up looked nothing like the letters!

I took my family for the Wizard Trials and we had a blast! Zach (sp?) the game master was super friendly and helpful. I totally recommend it!

Great time with the family for my nephews birthday. We chose the hardest room and didn't realize it but they gave us extra time to complete the room when we didn't finish on time.

Their escape rooms are clever and well made. That said, they are a bit pricey if you're not coming with a larger group.

My wife did this tour a couple years ago and highly recommended it, but I wasn't especially interested because I had also gone to school here and figured I knew enough about Hyde Park already. However, she insisted that it would be worth our while and so I agreed to climb on the bus. And it was the absolutely right decision, because the tour was excellent. In fact, it wasn't just a tour of Hyde Park. It included the surrounding neighborhoods of Washington Park, Kenwood, Jackson Park, and Woodlawn. Since this was a UChicago sponsored event much of the information related to the University's investment and involvement in the area. Our tour guide and founder of Chicago Detours, Amanda, is herself a graduate of UChicago and thus she had some additional insight into the relationship with the community. Though the 75-minute tour felt a little slow-going at times, there was much to learn about the vibrant but sometimes troubled history of the area. Amanda has tremendous knowledge and the excursion was both fascinating and entertaining. I can imagine that Chicago Detours would have equally interesting tours of other neighborhoods in this diverse city.

There was no time to enjoy any of the art at the museum, because there was too much time running around trying to figure out the clues and the race to WIN!! Had a blast and I would recommend it. Only problem we had was some art was moved or on loan (5 clues). Some team members were able to Google or ask questions to figure out the answer. Other just gave up realizing the art wasn't there.. Strayboats did give us a refund for those 5 clues. For the price we paid they should have double checked to make sure all the art was still in the same location. There were 20 people in a small room and our moderator Andy (who was actually pretty awesome). Let's just say the 'game' was very complicated for 90% of the people and most were walking around confused for the night. We all got cards, which you could trade for other cards, or make people show you theirs. You have a 'role' and a team, the mob or fed. You have a rat. You want to find out who is on your team and who is not. And almost every person has a different password. The game would have been A LOT more fun if the 'password' was all the same for each team. That would have made it more enjoyable and less like a cluster f*ck of people walking around confused the whole night. Speaking apart from the one or two know-it-all people that had done this before (or are huge 'mafia' players), the best part honestly was the waitress topping off our drinks.

From what I can gather, Parties that Cook is a mobile cooking company that goes to different venues in a certain geographic area and hosts cooking classes for groups. Our event was at a community center in one of the Chicago suburbs. The first 30 minutes acted as kind of a mixer; they had an open bar and some cheese and crackers for us to nom on - they also had some music playing which added to the mingling atmosphere. There were a total of six cooking stations, each laid out with a recipe and the ingredients you needed to make the dish. Before we began, chef David went through each station with us, giving an overview of each dish and some hot tips in order for us to be successful. He was great - he had an awesome personality, great sense of humor, and was really helpful. We were split into an even number of groups to cover each station. While the staff did prep some of the more time consuming things for us, most of the work was done by my group and I. We were in charge of making onion, apple, and cheddar tarts topped with honey. The recipe was a great catalyst to get to know one each other better and work as a team - plus the finished product tasted good too. At the end we all got to sit and enjoy the dishes made by all the groups. Overall I had a great time - Parties That Cook definitely was a fun way to work together, get to know each other a bit more, and enjoy tasty food.

And the staff at Parties that Cook did an excellent job organizing, structuring and coaching us through a fun, high-energy evening (and keeping our wine glasses filled). And yes, we prepared our entire meal, from appetizers to dessert. And this was not mac and cheese. The menu was innovative and appropriately challenging. (When was the last time you prepared persimmons?) Bottom line, this is far better than the typical post-meeting reception/dinner experience, especially for groups that could use an interactive spark. Highly recommended as an out-of-the-ordinary team building activity.
