I had heard of Papa John's but only recently tried it (they are an American pizza chain that only recently expanded to Canada). Overall it was good.
I was browsing through UberEats and saw that they were having a BOGO (buy one get one free) deal. I'm all about the deals so figured it was a good time to try them out. They had 10" pizzas in a few varieties BOGO for $15.99. I got the Butter Chicken one, which usually comes with butter chicken sauce, grilled chicken, green peppers and onions. I asked them to hold the onions and my pizza didn't have onions.
I was pleasantly surprised that each pizza came with a free pepperoncini and garlic dipping sauce. It was a nice touch, but those freebies aren't my cup of tea, so I gave them to my dad (lol, no matter their age or their kid's age, dads always eat stuff their kids don't want, at least in my family, my brother does it too, haha).
Anyway, the pizza had a lot of crust, which is also not my preference. The crust was thick, but tasted ok. I usually don't even eat pizza crust, but I ate the crust. The amount of toppings given was good. And the amount of sauce was also good, not too excessive, but not too skimpy.
The butter chicken sauce had a subtle butter chicken flavour. The grilled chicken was the standard grilled chicken you get at pizza joints. It's processed, but at least lean, albeit salty. Green peppers were fresh and still had that al dente crunch.
Overall, I enjoyed the pizza, although it tasted very much like a mainstream pizza chain trying to cash in on the Desi Pizza/Indian-fusion Pizza bandwagon. It didn't taste like the Butter Chicken Pizza I get at the independent mom and pop Indian-owned pizza joints. The Indian flavours are more subtle and not as potent.
I'll need to get a more standard pizza, like pepperoni, green peppers and mushrooms to see how they compare to other chains here like Domino's, Little Caesars and Pizza Pizza.
$16 for 2 small pizzas was great, but I'm not sure how I'd feel if I only got 1 pizza for that price.
Pick up was quick and efficient. They were hopping around dinner time. Lots of people wait around, including food couriers.
It's takeout only. This Orleans location is in a plaza. Lots of free parking available.
