So anyway, he went for a steak sandwich and myself a lamb and rosemary burger in toasted bagel all washed down with a generous pot of tea each (we were still, no matter our menu choice, in brekkie mode!) Both meals were beautiful, large in portion, the steak cooked perfectly medium rare and accompanied by fresh salad. About half way through eating, i discovered that my egg wasn't cooked properly - all runny and gooey, so i called over the waiter to let him know. It turned out to be the manager who proceeded to accuse me and talk to me in an impolite manner. I honestly did not notice the uncooked bit of the egg until half way through but he kept saying to me 'I can't believe you didn't notice before blah blah...' I generally felt like he was accusing me of lying to him in order to get the meal for free. A good manager would have been very apologetic and would have offered me the money off the bill straight away, in my opinion. To give the place its due, the food (...the bits that were cooked) was very nice & my boyfriend had a cooked breakfast which was all fine. I just think it's pretty unacceptable for a manager/ head waiter to act that way to his guests. Also we asked for a table inside and said we'd sit outside in the meantime... the table was then given away to an older (& more affluent looking!) couple who arrived 5 mins or so later. It's such a surreal experience walking in past the shelves of international foods but actually it's a really great thing that this shop has survived. I imagine larger companies and chain stores must be kicking their door down daily trying to get them to sell. Even though it is a deli, mini-supermarket and a cafe the real draw for me is the cups of coffee for £1 and the hot dogs they have in the summer for £2; that's budget! I think this hidden away place is such a gem purely because it is on the triangle and because it isn't a clothes shop or jewellery shop and they certainly are independent. It is almost like a cultural excursion to a European destination. They always seem to take a relatively long time to make my sandwich, I don't mind so long as love and attention is going into the making of that sandwich, which takes them so long to construct and then grill.

If you like pasties, you will like this cafe, as they are huge here. This cafe was too dark, lacking in atmosphere and needs to be sprinkled with sunshine and rainbows to make it brighter! Happier! Cheerier!
