That menu looks like good value for folks who like that version of Chinese food. Overall, it's ok. Close to home and fairly good. Certainly, I've had better in Bristol , but times have changed.

He loved both of his dishes but I was a bit uninspired by them. I found the starter quite heavy and just can't get myself on the vean train. But, as I said he loved them and that's what counts. I found the calamari a bit salty to my taste, but absolutely perfectly cooked. The pasta was really tasty and moreish and I ate until I felt unwell (due to stuffing myself) before passing the dish off to The Man who enjoyed finishing it off. What really made this place stand out was the chat of the hostess. Our waiter was neither here nor there, but the hostess (owner? owner's daughter?) ran the ship and brought the experience up from three (perfectly decent) to four (very nice) stars.

After a little bit, my risotto came out to me. It was a very large portion, a bit too much really, but if you are very hungry, you'll certainly have enough to eat! It looked delicious, but I started looking closer and noticed that the prawns looked like those tiny little ones that you find in the frozen aisle section of the grocery store... I wasn't happy about that. I dug in and the taste was good, although I noticed that whoever had cooked this had gone overboard with the lemon zest. I'm not a fan of chewing citrus peel. I was too full to try dessert, but decided to have a cup of tea before getting on my way. My tea came with two amaretti cookies, which I thought was a really nice touch. While my main was not the best risotto I have ever had, I would be willing to go back and try something else on the menu. We were told it would be 20 minutes for a table but were seated in 10 much to our surprise as it was absolutely packed out that night. The waiter who seated us bore a striking resemblance to Frankie Dettori and had an exuberant personality to match and this was matched by all the staff we encountered that night. All of them were friendly and welcoming and made us feel like we were old friends. The menu was varied and after much deliberation over a lovely glass of frascati we decided upon a starter of tuna carpacchio (one of the specials that day), mozzarella infornata, penne toscana, fillet steak pepe verde, insalata romanesca and sides of rucola e parmigiano and zucchini fritti. The tuna was supremely tender with a light seared edge and the drizzle of balsamic combined perfectly with the peppery rocket garnish and the squeeze of lemon. The mozzarella was wrapped in speck and oozed satisfyingly from its salty crispy shell. The salads were fresh and alive with flavour, the pasta perfectly al dente with a generous sauce of succulent Italian sausage and a deep and rich red wine. My dish of steak was delicious. I barely needed to chew the meat it was that tender and so juicy and full of rich flavour with the pop and peppery hit of green peppercorns. It was served with green beans (squeaky and delightful) and meltingly soft savoury potato slices. Favourite of all was the zucchini fritti, matchstick strips of courgette in a light and airy crispy parmesan batter, simply delectable! To finish we shared the vanilla and amaretto semi-fredo which was creamy and soft with a lovely crunchy coating and once more from a good Italian restaurant, fantastic coffee. The only reason this has 4 stars instead of 5 was that the vegetable sides with the steak were a little on the ungenerous side, especially the potatoes, six slices(half a pound coin thickness) of such a tasty spud is just not enough!! The pizzas seemed very popular that night, I wonder if they deliver to Rochdale....?

The restaurant is on the top floor and has really nice views of the river (and all of the activities that go along with that) and is a perfect backdrop as the sun sets over Bristol. Once the sun has gone down the ambiance and atmosphere here really shines and the (usually full) tables provide a charming and warm hum with everyone chatting, laughing and having a good time. The menu is modern European, and features items such as ham hock and roast rabbit, all decorously served. Puddings include items such as lavender panna cotta - simply to die for. Service was excellent and the general consensus was that we would happily come back here: most of us had two courses, which, with house wine (a bottle between two on average), water and service came to £28 a head.

This is a kebab shop, but about as far away as the row of greasy kebab selling places at the bottom of Park Street (Bristol's number one location for a fight on a Saturday night, incidentaly). Good quality meat, not horribly greasy, and excellently seasoned. This is somewhere to go for a meal, not just for a end of the night. Although, whilst the food's restaurant quality, there isn't really anywhere to sit, so it's probably best to order out. Go to the Cedar Express to get a proper kebab rather than something that'll clog your arteries.

While this means they must be a small chain, they each feel fairly unique - since the one I ate at in Cardiff has a waterside location very different to this one on Baldwin Street in Bristol. The smell of charred meat is what probably draws a lot of customers in here initially, particularly in the summer when the doors are open onto the street - but for me it was the promise of one of my all-time favourite Turkish dishes: Imam bayildi, which translates as "the imam fainted" and is made with aubergine stuffed with onion, garlic and tomatoes. The cavern-like interior is thoughtfully decorated if a little over-the-top, with mosaics and freezes on the wall depicting scenes from ancient Turkey. The mezze selection is wonderful and tasty, and the main dishes - although a little meat-heavy - have plenty of seafood options and are equally delicious. The most disappointing aspect of Bosphorus is how quiet it often is, and reading other reviews it seems not everyone has enjoyed such a good dining experience as I did, and this could account for their lack of popularity. What's great about Turkish restaurants in general, however, is how passionate the staff tend to be about their country and cuisine. I always end up in conversation with the waiter about Turkey, finding out where they're from and which dishes they were brought up eating. The staff here are no different - very friendly and engaging, and very happy to stop for a chat.

EVERYTHING we ate was homemade, and from scratch, and your tastebuds can tell the difference. We started with a raspberry ginger cooler and a hot masala chai, both of which rocked our palates yearning for more. We were a party of three. Mains: One Chana masala Thali, which came with the most delicious and perfectly done Chanas, complete with a garnish of raw onions. The Thali also comes with a generous serving of rice, lentils, sabzi, chutney and a wickedly yummulicious salad, a perfect marriage of Indian ingredients and coleslaw. Next was one masala dosa, done to perfection, crispy and overflowing from its serving platter, stuffed with a generous helping of potatoes and a smattering of peas, as the masala. It was accompanied by the yummiest of coconut chutneys, and a delicious Sambhar. It was wolfed down with ooooh's and aaah's, and crunch, munch, munch! Since we had all decided to share, for the third order we went with one of each one's favorites. An Utthapa, accompanied by the above mentioned Sambhar and chutney, an alloo paratha which came with yummy pickles and a small side of sweet yogurt. The third item was *drum rolls* please, Goan Fish curry, the crowning jewel according to the two non vegetarian members of the party. Dessert was homemade gulab jamun, oozing with the flavor of fresh green cardamom and saffron, both visibly present in the serving platter, which comes as a two gulab jamuns, with a small tea. Add to all this yummyness the quirkiness of a spontaneous charm, and the interactive active friendliness of the owners, who also man the Front of House, and you have the perfect recipe for a memorable meal. What can I say, except yes, my stomach is still singing, and if things go according to plan, we should be headed to The Thali for dinner tomorrow night as well. If you're in town, Go.
