With a range of expertly prepared meals and platters, you won't be disappointed. I've been to the little garden out back a few times in the summer - it's a great place to have a coffee in the sun, and now Christmas is on its way the inside of the cafe is pretty cosy too. I can't leave The Olive Shed Shop without buying something from the deli. I really recommend their range of artisan breads in particular. Their antipasti are delicious too. It is jam packed with local produce such as olives (obviously!), jams, pickles, cheeses etc. Their olives are divine. They are all huge Queen olives marinated in lemon, or feta cheese. Pretty much any type you could desire. I would also recommend taking home one of their chutneys as they are equally as good. Staff were friendly and let you try out the olives before you buy. Very at home on the wholesome Gloucester Road, The Olive Shed Shop is the partner shop of the restaurant The Olive Shed down on the waterfront. It is a little, low-lit, woody room stuffed full of wonderful olives, olive oils and vinegars, plus all the other scrummy things you expect from a deli such as cheeses, sundried tomatoes, meats, cakes and breads. From the outside it looks as though it's just a shop but inside it's actually a cafe which extends out to a back garden. It's expensive, of course, given the high quality of all the products and the careful handling, and will be the cafe of choice for foodies rather than people just wanting a simple bite to eat. The Iranian figs are fantastic but should come with a warning as they are highly addictive - ask for a free taster next time you are there. The chocolate and absinthe cake sounds like a gimmick but is wonderfully moist and tastes sensational. Last but not least just try the French garlic - it looks and tastes amazing and comes in traditional plats. This place has a nice little courtyard out the back that is perfect for lunch on a sunny afternoon. The lunch options are great - salads, meat plates, flatbreads, frittatas and spanikopita all looked appetising. I got a flatbread, vine leaves and peppers stuffed with feta. The vine leaves were good - soft texture implied they might be freshly made! The flatbread turned out to be pretty enormous and was delicious, as pastry saturated in oil is bound to be, I guess. read more

The companion shop to the waterfront restaurant, the Olive Shed Shop is a cute little deli in dirty pastels up on Gloucester Road. It serves high quality food, including (you guessed it) fantastic olives and other marinated goods such as artichokes, sundried tomatoes, etc. The flavours are very much Mediterranean. In addition to the eponymous olives there's also a good range of cheeses, cooking ingredients and breads, all of which are the perfect accessories to any serious kitchen. Predictably, it doesn't come cheap but given that these ingredients never do, it's not necessarily bad value for money. There's also a pleasant little cafe area without an outside back garden which makes for a nice sunlit retreat when bustling Gloucester Road gets all a bit much. read more

If I had the greatest disposable income in the world, I would shop here everyday. And you'd probably find me armpit deep in the big tubs of olives they have behind the counter. Unlike in your usual delis there are absolutely loads of types to choose from-ranging from feta-stuffed, lemon and garlic to more chilli-ish varieties. But there's also a great range of anti-pasti meats, sandwiches, artisan breads and posh vinegarettes and oils. There's limited seating inside, but I prefer the dainty tables out on the decked area of the walled garden out the back. Went in August for tea and cake, super scrummy vegan friendly hazelnut chocolate muffin! There is a good range of cakes and a huge selection of lunch bits which all look good. Service was good (though bit hard to tell when they you only have service for a pot of tea!) but they were friendly. The little courtyard is cute though could do with a bit more cover for when it rains. read more
