However, I believe my comments are applicable to any plantiff's…read moreside case. 1) Case Management Ability: This firm failed to file for a motion for default judgment by SIX WEEKS. That's right -- not ONE, not TWO, not THREE, not FOUR, not FIVE, but SIX WEEKS. I could have gotten a default judgment. My understanding, although not a NJ lawyer, is that this case management failure is malpractice. Damages are obviously another issue, but a cut and dry case of malpractice nonetheless. 2) Fees: They quoted $1,500, took that amount as a retainer, and charged me another $1900 on top of that. The additional fee might be warranted for competent legal counsel, however please see points 1 and 3. 3) Client communication: They did not communicate that they would be billing me an additional amount. When I asked them a fairly simple question about whether I needed a form, they responded with "I don't know" and billed me $50 for the pleasure of having them read that email, $50 for them to research that answer of pure legal genius, and $50 for responding to my email. It was a question that they should have known. 4) Firing them: When I tried to tell them I didn't want them to represent me, they continued to contact me and bill me, again for this distinct pleasure. My husband's lawyer (Corinne M. DeStefano) did a much better job in a much more timely manner for a much better rate.

Luckily, after hearing nothing but greatness from Ric, I have decided to go with him. While working with him, I've noticed that what makes a lawyer shine is not about the knowledge he knows but the relationship he has with the judge + prosecutor(s). His strong knowledge as well as his relations helped me reduce my sentence to just 2 points (with defensive driving course recommended by lawyer). His negotiating skills with the prosecutors before being called up upon the judge has secured us in a positive position. I can't say anything but greatness and will be going through Ric with anything that occurs again. As soon as he speaks to the prosecutor he informs you and he will continuing updating you with progress and give you different choices depending on what you want Ex. - Choice 1. 6 points and no suspension Choice 2. 2 points and 60 days suspension When a choice is given to you from your lawyer, you know they are your top priority and want what's best for you. Boy, what a costly mistake. Joe is a nice guy to talk to so I wish I didn't need to write this review, yet his lack of professionalism has cost me dearly. First, he struggled with basic things like prompt replies. I would send an email and not hear back for 1+ week. I often needed to send 2-3 follow-ups to then get some excuse for late reply, multiple times. I started putting reminders to check in on Joe frequently, something I don't even do for the 20-year-old interns at work. After filing the case in court, Joe got in touch with the tenant's lawyer to negotiate. Each conversation he tried to convince me to cater to her demands, to the point where I wasn't sure if he was representing me or her. Yet after agreeing to all that, he still wasn't able to reach an agreement. Then, the culmination came when I finally got a court date. He never showed up! Joe told me he had another case that was more important, and so he needed to prioritize that one. After 7 months of waiting for a court date and not getting rent, the case was dismissed due to Joe's no show and I had to start over. Another case he submitted to court was collections for the unpaid rent, and there too he achieved no results or went to court once. After firing Joe I talked to other lawyers. Most didn't want to take the case adding that Joe had made so much mess that it was too much to fix. When I finally found a lawyer that took the case, they submitted it to court and shortly after there was a court date, the tenant was out. Overall, Joe's lack of competence has cost me more than $10K in lost rent income.
