We got several estimates and chose Papaneri & Sons Concrete to replace our 50+ year old patio, walkways and front steps. They weren't the cheapest option but after meeting with Mario Papaneri and his lovely wife Denise, we felt comfortable putting our job in their hands. This was a big decision for us, we had waited a long time for this and didn't make the contractor decision lightly. We weren't disappointed. Papaneri was extremely easy to work with and kept in communication with us from beginning to end. They also explained that the concrete they use is a higher quality and cures harder than the concrete used by many contractors. Since our house is white with black trim, we wanted to inject a little color into the concrete and hoped to match a brick-colored paver that we gave them as a sample. Mario and Denise explained that they would try their best but could not guarantee an exact match. Papaneri's team worked hard early morning to night the day of the work. They arrived at the stated time with a streetload of trucks and demolition equipment to start breaking up the old steps and concrete and were a professional, well-oiled team. My husband and I noticed that Mario worked at least as hard as his crew; as the owner we thought he would show up late in the day to inspect the work but he was in the trenches all day, and it was a typical hot, humid summer day. Through no fault of their own, they had some trouble with the concrete delivery and as a result, after curing, the concrete color was a bit blotchy. As with contractors we worked with in the past, we assumed we would have to fight to get the color fixed to our satisfaction but we were wrong. Mario wasn't happy with the color either, he and his team take pride in their finished product, and he said he knew how to fix it. They came back and applied a colored sealer to even it out and they were right, the finished concrete is now one even color. Both Mario and Denise are easy to talk to, helpful and understand that this is a big expenditure and a personal one too. They listened to our ideas and concerns and offered their own suggestions when asked. They've been running this family business for decades and know their stuff. We trusted them and weren't disappointed. Have to give a special shout out to Denise. Before, during and after the work, she was a dream to work with. She is an incredibly sweet and friendly person, nothing was ever too much trouble even when I emailed her many questions for days. Mario and his crew get well-deserved accolades for the work but we suspect that, without Denise running the business side, none of it would be possible. read more

Also, while you are there at my house, feel free to lift up the green indoor/outdoor carpet I was forced to lay right outside my front door to cover Mario's crappy "resurfacing" job he did. If I'm forced to HIDE his work, how bad do you think it must look? You can feel free to lift the carpet even though it's taped. I'll retape it after you've taken a look at his low-quality, inferior work. I can't come up with the money to get this redone until Mario pays up the entire amount of the judgment I received in court. But, who knows when and if that will happen. He is disreputable and dishonest! Make sure you look at the driveway apron he cracked, make sure you look at the sidewalk he also installed where it meets up with the driveway, there is a large crack there also. And, it was not my idea (as Mario states) to do a radius from the driveway to my walkway which leads to my front door...it was his suggestion! Both sides of the radius are now cracked. Look at the stones coming through the concrete on the sidewalk (not my walkway, but the sidewalk)...those stones coming through are what's known as "spalling". Once that occurs, it's a matter of time before the concrete starts to break apart at the surface, thus allowing moisture to get in. Also, he was supposed to seal the concrete, and he never did that either! read more
