My daughter had custom artwork and calligraphy done for her wedding invitations that we purchased a heavy card stock paper for, the paper had a pearl essence sheen and we also had them pre-cut to the size of the invitations, response cards, etc, surprisingly having the paper pre-cut was an issue for many, we called Paper in Pine to see if they could do the printing, after calling around we called Paper in Pine, the woman on the phone said she'd need to see them so we went there, she took a brief look and told us that she could not print them because the paper was pre-cut and because of the sheen the ink wouldn't hold, I asked if she could test one to see if it would work, I even told her I'd be happy to pay any extra cost but she held to her story that it wouldn't work and then she added that she had a 3:30 appointment , I gave them 1 star for answering the phone quickly, but with her unwillingness to even try we ended up taking them to "Papery" on Locust street, I'd also like to add that the woman at Papery ALSO had a 3:30 appointment but she was optimistic and said she didn't think it'd be a problem, we went over, she test printed them on the paper and they were perfect! they wanted our business, they reassured us beyond any doubt and they matched our excitement for our daughters wedding, they printed everything and they came out beautiful, Paper on Pine gave me the impression that they didn't want my business, they didn't even want to try, and unfortunately that 1st impression is a lasting one, I can thank them for steering us away because it put us into the hands of a shop that exceeded our expectations. read more

I walk into this store frequently hoping to find something that interests me but I usually come out empty handed. The staff is not particularly warm and sometimes the stock seems a bit stale here. Their main focus is on custom order invitations and less on scrapbooking and DIY stuff. read more

Although I was just browsing when I went in, I suddenly spotted a 100th birthday card, which I should have bought a little over a month ago for my great-grandmom's 100th birthday! I bought my wedding invitations here. I have not even received them yet, but I had such a wonderful experience with Cindy and Allison that I had to write a review! Cindy sat down with me for well over an hour - not once, but on two separate occasions - patiently walking me through the process. It can be an overwhelming experience, but never once did I feel rushed or like I was taking up too much of her time. I read a negative review on here from an out-of-towner who was disgruntled that the staff was paying attention to another customer, and I have to say that this is what I loved about Paper on Pine. You have to expect that in a small, independent shop. Attention and conversation is what makes good service. I cannot believe that I almost bought my wedding invitations online, without the expertise of a compassionate and personable professional like Cindy. This place is horrible -- I usually go to Papyrus but was in a rush to buy a gift for next weekend and this place is near my house. Shame on me for assuming that the fancy pen I bought there would work. I didn't figure out it was broken until the last minute, when I had to wrap it. I made a special trip back to the store during the work week to exchange it. When I told the store clerk that the pen didn't work, she asked me sarcastically, "what about it didn't work?!" They did not have any more of the same pen and the one refill they had also didn't work. She told me I would have to go to Staples to get a refill. Even though she acknowledged that the pen had been bought at the store, she refused to exchange it for another pen (I even offered to take one of a lesser value) because I didn't have the receipt. She said that if she had sold me the pen herself, then she would "believe" me that I had bought it there, and could exchange it, but otherwise refused to do so (even though I described in painstaking detail all of my other purchases and the store clerk that had been working when I bought it and even though minutes earlier she had been willing to give me a refill if only she could find one that worked). I will never go back here. Papyrus has a much better selection and the customer service SO much bettter. read more

It is true what everyone is saying about the customer service. I'm guessing the people that run this store don't value the customer's opinion because, they act as if saying hello is too much. I don't like going into a store and made to feel like I'm invading someone's space or I'm putting you out by browsing. The owner of this store is a very stuck up snotty women. I love shopping at independently owned stores, not just because it supports local business but because it reminds of going to craft fairs with my mom back in the burbs after Sunday church. It seems silly to compare the two being that I'm almost 30, but any little shop that brings back the feelings of bonding time with mom is a-ok in my book and 13th street happens to be full of them. Paper on Pine is not always my first choice for gift giving, though their selection seems to have grown over the years; but it's my go-to for perfectly written cards to express any sentiment and to commemorate any event. I wish that I had the kind of money to purchase the kind of Christmas cards that they print here and instead typically opt for something cheaper in quality because who really keeps Christmas cards? That doesn't stop me from ogling their beautiful samples anyway. If I was in the market for higher end printing and design services though, I would absolutely make it a point to stop and discuss options here. read more

This store has very nice products. We decided to have our wedding invitations done here after meeting with a very friendly and employee who we really liked. Unfortunately that person left and we ended up having to correspond with a different staff person, who was quite rude and left a bad impression overall. In every interaction we had with her, she was unfriendly and came across like she was doing us a huge favor. She overcharged me in error, and instead of double checking when I questioned the total she basically just made something up and said it was correct. When I picked up the last batch and kindly asked her to double check the records. Realizing she had overcharged me, she offered no apology (which blew me away!). read more

We got our save-the-dates for our wedding here. The "design team" (really it was just one person) seemed very incompetent. The design of the save-the-dates we loved but getting there was a process. We asked for a certain amount of cards and for some reason they just couldn't get the quote right. Emails back and forth made it seem like I was dealing with a 12 year-old. It wasn't until I highlighted each incorrect line item did they actually fix the quote. When we went to pick them up they tried to charge us for double what we ordered. I've always loved Paper on Pine for great gifts. I don't get there often, so when I do, I stock up on candles and home items that are always great to have on hand for last minute hostess or thank you gifts. Currently, I have extra "Love Philly" wine totes on hand that make great gifts (with a special bottle of wine) for any occasion. Only recently did I try their custom printing services and I was blown away by how much better looking they were than invitations that I usually order online. Everyone commented on how nice they were! I just gave them the details and a color theme, and the next thing I know, they prepared a custom invitation for me to review and approve, and then I had my invitations within a week. It was so easy and the invitations so beautiful, I will definitely use them again in the future. read more

So I just left Paper on Pine, and will not be going back. I went into the store to get a Christmas card, and the store offers a buy 10 get the 11th for free card. So after having purchased 10 cards, I was excited to be able to get my 11th card. When I first walked in, the owner was friendly and asked if I needed any help. Afterwards, when I approached the counter and showed her my card, her reaction was "Oh", and made a disappointed face. Then she said "You filled up the whole card", and my reaction was "Yes, and I had to spend alot for it to be filled". After the transaction, she didn't even offer me a bag (guess since I didn't pay for it, why waste a bag on me). In the past, I've usually had good experiences, but the owner showed her true colors. And as a side note, I've spent alot of money over the years at her shop, including her original location on Pine Street. If a store is going to make someone feel bad about an offer they initiate, then they should just stop offering it! read more
