Such a beautiful selection of greeting cards, craft supplies, unique games, decorations, and a lot more. It's like a treasure chest in the middle of Philly. The staff is always very sweet. We are always greeted even when it is busy and they make sure to ask if we have our rewards card (from B&N) every time we check out. I could spend so much time and money here, but I try to only get one or two things each time I stop in so I can keep coming back. That said they definitely update some of their selection frequently and are the perfect place to get a gift for someone! It can be hard to move around the store when it is busy. The back is also a little hard to navigate when they have shipments come in. This would be my only reasons for 4 stars instead of 5 :) read more

I did not even realize there was a Paper Source in Center City until I had to do an online return and learned that they are one of the Happy Returns locations. Enticed by a $10 off coupon that resulted from my doing my Happy Return, I decided to shop around. The staff was very helpful with my initial visit reason, and let me know about sales happening at the store. I bought some adorable new cards, one with dogs on the cover and the other with succulents because there was a BOGO. Another great find was a To-Do list pad that has magnets so you can stick it to your fridge. There were tons of seasonal decor options, so I bought a "Happy Halloween" banner as well. The pricing was reasonable, and the quality of items is a match to the price point. If you are in need of a last minute gift, Paper Source is a great place to stop! read more

There are stores l that I like to call "feel good stores"...the ones that emanate and radiate goodness by the products they carry. This was one of those stores. From the inviting fruity floral aroma that wafted through the air to the whimsical display tables adorned with various trinkets and Knick knacks. It's reminiscent of that of a Francesca's, though Francesca's will have more humor oriented gag gifts. This store had more inspirational things items, like autobiographies and poetry and greeting cards that focus on gratitude, kindness, and general thoughtfulness. If any store has a display solely dedicated to the Rifle Paper brand, it gets major points. Rifle Paper carries some of the most cutely decorated and curated items that if I could own everything from that line I would. This is definitely the kind of store you don't want to stay in too long as you'll end up buying something you want but probably don't need which is typically the case with me in stores like Francesca's or Target. Things that emit good vibes have that effect on me. Regardless, I am so happy I passed by it. It was the chalkboard stand outside that initially drew me in. The girls inside were so nice as well. The area that just blew me away was the wall lined with wrapping paper with distinct patterns on them. I was especially privy to the one with cats on it. I had to restrain myself from not buying a majority of the things in the store. I ended up getting a pretty greeting card that came with a necklace that I ended up keeping for myself lol because it had a good message on it and then also these two cute keychains that I wanted for my key ring for my apartment. Vinyl mug!! This place has so many things you didn't know you needed? Like who doesn't need a Snoop Dogg cookbook or a 420 Marijuana candle?!! I had to get this mug. I listen to my records all the time and now my mug can match my mood! We were tickled throughout. It's so vibrant and eye catching as you wonder through and explore the store. Funny socks, miniature games, and even tiny ice cream makers. From stationary & desk essentials to gift wrapping. They literally have you covered. It's really great for the little one too. But bring your wallets guys cuz they're a little pricey. However, my mug was worth it. read more

I am a stationary connoisseur. I have even considered starting a line of greeting cards or opening a paper boutique. The experience of going into a card/gift shop is unique to me. I can spend hours looking at cards, and at my home, I have a whole drawer dedicated to boxes of thank you cards, just because cards, spare birthday cards, blank cards, and letter-writing stationary. That said, I was very sad to have my card-shopping experience ruined on the evening 11/17/23. I've never felt particularly welcomed walking into this particular location of the Paper Source, but last Friday was the worst. Still, I had just purchased a gift at Kitchen Kapers and needed to get a card quickly. It's right around the corner, so I popped in. Two store associates looked at me and did not say hello or acknowledge me walking into the store. I searched for the birthday card and a housewarming card, which I could not find, so I asked for help. The woman who helped me was nice, but as I approached the register, I saw a woman walk into a warm welcome from the woman standing behind the register. She was with a customer, but she stopped what she was doing to great this white woman, and I, a black woman, got no attention upon entering the store. When I got to the register, I asked, "Where was my warm welcome?" jokingly. The woman became very defensive and said, "I don't know, maybe I was with a customer or busy (she wasn't), but someone should have greeted you." I told her I was messing around with her because she was visibly uncomfortable, and I wanted to diffuse some of the stress from the moment. She spoke to me very condescendingly about my membership status and me and then didn't even say goodbye or happy holidays or anything. That made me feel like I'd never return to that Paper Source again. I should have just gone to Urban or Barnes and Noble... next time, I will. They had a terrible selection of new home cards anyway. read more

Paper Source is a good option to turn to if you need to grab some scrapbook or rubber stamping supplies without having to make a trip down to Michaels. I got a box of Zots glue dots (300 count) for my scrapbook here. Honestly, it was a change from having to walk down to Dick Blick. I got a greeting from one of the associates as I came in, & was asked if I'd found everything that I needed during the checkout. That was good enough for me. Hands-off salespersons are okay in my book. The greeting cards here are cute & quirky. The decorative paper, giftsy items, gift bags, stationary, ink, rubber stamping & scrapbook supplies (glue sticks & scissors are sold here too), journals, unicorn-themed items, & stickers make this a cute one-stop shopping experience for some crafting or gift needs. I've been given many beautiful cards from here over the years and had never actually been in the store. I used to drive past every morning and would admire their creative and seasonally themed, intricate window displays. I've always been super intrigued, but never made it inside for some reason. Today, that changed.... While already parked to run an errand across the street around the holiday season, I used it as the perfect excuse to pop in. Wow, was I surprised!! Sure this sweet little spot had paper, duh, but it offered so much more... There's amazing gift items for women, men and children alike. Fantastic party items...decor, hats, and festive plates and utensils. Holiday themed items, an invitation enter, barware, amazing cards, and an entire wall of the most gorgeous printed, metallic and handmade papers I haven't seen since I was in art school! In fact, I wasn't even sure these papers existed anymore as the place is used to purchase them had closed years ago. So happy to have found them! My creative justice started flowing immediately!! I saw so many things I want to come back and get my girls and girlfriends!! An awesome place for unique gifts!! Some of my favorite items would be the Frida felt ornament, the 365 days of well being books, meal planning pages, and colorful felt Pom Pom necklaces. My favorite aspect of the entire store may just have been the option and space to create your own cards! How fun! Definitely need to bring the littles back to do that...and make a mess in someone else's space for a change. As well as novelty gifts, cards, stamps, stationary, etc., you can also go crazy with wrapping supplies for presents. One of my favorite things is to peruse their wall of art paper - you'll find beautiful graphics and great quality paper, nice enough that I've considered actually framing a few of these. I visit this store almost every single time I'm in Center City. I'm a huge fan of greeting cards and some of the best ones I've ever purchased come from Paper Source (and trust me, I've done my fair share of card shopping). Although Paper Source has a huge variety of cards, their small shop is also stocked with gifts, stationery, gift wrapping supplies, and cute and fun party items. The store is on the smaller side but everything is so nicely organized making it very easy to find what you're looking for. Staff is always friendly and polite. On the couple occasions when I've had to do an exchange/return, I really appreciate that I wasn't greeted with an eye roll - something I've witnessed far too often in other places. This store will continue to be my go-to for greeting cards. Now that I'm in full wedding mode, I'm sure I'll eventually be checking out their stationery and gift wrapping supplies too! read more

The middle part of the store is interesting because it has items such as stationary items that you can gift or buy for yourself. The back of the store is a card making area. Not sure how that part works if you need to make a reservation to use it or how you pay for it. But it's interesting none the less. My only issue is that this store is so expensive!!!!! read more

I walked to the back of the store on Walnut street this evening to buy a few packs of foldover place cards. Near that card section were three employees having a conversation; I couldn't find the size I needed so turned to them, about 2 feet away from me, and waited for a break in their discussion to say "I'm sorry to interupt, could I ask a quick question? I'm looking for your small foldover place cards" They all looked at me, so I gestured to the two shelves in front of me and asked "are all the sizes on these two shelves?" One girl said "Probably." and then resumed the conversation. Now I interrupted and gesturing again asked "Probably? You don't know if they're all here?" Same girl shrugged and said "I can't see which shelf you're looking at, but if you don't see them we're out" After a beat a different girl walked two feet to another shelf and said "here's where the smaller ones are" then she grabbed a pack and handed it to me over her shoulder and walked back to the others. I bought 5 packs of cards at 20 bucks a pop, but I almost left with nothing and a bad taste for Paper Source customer service. Came in here to have a wedding gift wrapped and purchase a card. I was in a wheelchair due to breaking my ankle and they have a chair lift which was incredibly helpful. Best stationary store in center city IMO. It helps that i work within a few blocks too so i find myself wandering in the store a lot during my lunch hour and spending all of my money. This is my go to place for unique greeting cards and gifts. They're a little on the pricey end but you're also paying for the amazing quality of their cards/stationary. They carry a good variety of brands and have new and unique items that i haven't seen before just about every time i go in. The staff is also always attentive and willing to help. They host a number of DIY workshops every month as well, from greeting card making to scrap booking and wedding stuff. Their sale section is in the back of the store and they usually put out of season items on sale quickly (i got a bunch of Easter/Mother's Day) cards for half off about a month after. read more

I am a huge fan of paper source -- online, the Ardmore and Princeton stores are sort of wet dreams full of quirky stuff, useful and crafty stuff and sweet as pie people bursting to help you figure out crafts r try something new they've just discovered themselves. So paper source itself, five stars, all the way. The Philadelphia store, not so much. And it's kind of the people. I'm always hesitant to write people-based reviews because anyone can have an off day. That said, I was left waiting in the back, stranded and looking for someone to ask a few questions -- I was abandoned along with several other people -- and the entire staff was at the register fawning over the man who won the first season of Project Runway. OK, he's a Philly celebrity, but I'm a person -- and a customer. I am at your register with several things in my hands that I want to buy so it would have been nice to have been acknowledged -- I wasn't; instead, I finally got someone's attention as the Runway guy was leaving. And then during my checkout, the two people there just chatted about how awful it was that they didn't get his information and what has he been up to and who is this peon that wasn't a fizzed out pseudo celebrity and why should we take her money. what really steams me, though, is that this is not the first time the bald gay man at the front has been catty to me or to someone else in front of. The man is working at a craft store; us crafty women are going to hear what you say about us under your breath or realize that just because you smile when you say it, it isn't nice. Also, I understand they're in the first several months of being open, but if a product is always out of stock, maybe you should get more. It's worth taking a twenty minute train ride to Ardmore for the people and supplies. read more

Finding myself in the area with some time on my hands, I popped into Paper Source to pick up some cards, and came away super impressed not just by the variety of cards but also the array of small gifts. I could have spent a boatload in that store, but I held back and picked up just what I needed: a couple special occasion cards and a pack of cute thank you cards. Total was just over twenty bucks which is probably the cost of four cards at the drugstore. I spent a few minutes chatting with one of the employees (possibly the manager?) and learned about some workshops that they host at the store. I'm considering signing up for one in the near future. I'm not super crafty but I would like to spruce up my skills a bit and this seems like a fun way to do it. read more

Upon entering, I quickly realized that Paper Source was so much more than a paper store and I was elated. They have lots of cards, paper products (every kind of paper you can imagine), pens, etc. stuff you would expect, but they also have LOTS of fun novelties and books and goodies. There's so much shit in this store and all of it is really thin and small and papery and little, so that it is packed to the rafters. Everything is colorful, well merchandised and very cute. I dropped in to buy Thank You cards for the engagement presents we've received so far and I found a pretty good variety of cards - lots of different colors, styles, etc. The prices might seem a little high, but I think it's worth it - I wound up with some attractive recycled "thanks you"s that felt just right, something you're able to do since they have such a large variety. Okay, so the store is pretty empty around 5pm, and I was greeted by two different people, and they didn't hover or anything, but when I asked a question of one employee, I just didn't feel... welcome in asking my question. They answered me, but they weren't particularly friendly or interested in helping (at least it seemed that way). It may have been that the individual who helped me was otherwise occupied, but whatever. Also, I asked for an address book and they had ONE. One big $30 address book. I thought that was a little strange. I know we live in a digital age, but come on. I was impressed with their inventory and the look of the store, and for all you crafty people (not me, really), they do workshops and what not, which is pretty cool, buuut with the prices and the one instance of questionable service I received in mind, I probably won't be dropping in on the regular unless I'm with a friend, buying a gift, or have some extra money to burn. read more

Sometimes when I am feeling creatively blocked, I go in and peruse their adorable cards and nifty gifts and then voila, I am back on the path of making cute things. Sure some of their stuff borders on novelty, but I am in love with every inch of their store. Hallmark has its place in the world, but not my world. All of my greeting card purchases come from here. They say I love you and I love supporting independent print shops. They also host How-To's and sell DIY projects that would make Martha swoon. First of all, I'd just like to say that I LOVE the Paper Source. Usually I buy my calendars, stationary, gifties, etc online. But I figured I'd save some money on shipping and visit their cute store in Center City. I was really bummed I couldn't find the calendar I wanted (which was odd because it's one of their most popular grid calendars). Whatever I knew I could find something else to tickle my paper fancy. Which I did... gorgeous wrapping paper and the cutest little book ("Darth Vader and Son"). Minus the calendar mishap, everything was going great! Until I have my run in with the floor-manager(?), a very rude, bald man. His attitude and snippety demeanor will keep me from ever returning to this store. I'll stick with the online shopping. Stopped in with the best friend to check out journals and planners. Average price of notebooks was about 16.00 USD. This shop has a selection of paper goods ranging from large sheets of craft paper, notebooks, planners, and small gifts. As well as other items sprinkled throughout the store like aprons and pillows. If you need craft paper they have a huge selection of high quality and uniquely patterned papers. However if you need an everyday planner or notebook you will end up over spending exponentially. Bottom line: cute place to browse and get ideas but I do not recommend purchasing anything aside from craft paper here! read more

Even for those of us that get glue everywhere and have zero creativity, just stop by here! I've browsed and bought some amazing Kate Spade stationary (not too pricey either!) and other goodies for decent prices. Went in today asking to help me emulate something I saw on Pinterest and the lady was super nice and helpful. Good balance between walking me through, and letting me just browse. Main reason why I like them in comparison to all the other paper stores I've been to: VARIETY. 1) I love their fun quirky gifts they have spread throughout the store. For example: one item picked up: fake gift box that looks like "automatic pet petter"-- a device that pets your cat for you. hilarious-- you buy that box and then put the real gift inside. But they have other fun/interesting things you can peruse through and they change their stock often enough that you can find something new and fun! 2) Cards are interesting! They have all sorts of cards that look handmade, as well cards that are funny and not your run-of-the-mill Hallmark brand. They're a little bit on the expensive side ($5/card), and don't have as wide of a selection as Papyrus, but they're aimed more for the 20-30 year old crowd/those that are young at heart. 3) They cover a wide range of supplies! So obviously, they won't have all the supplies you'd find at an art supply store but they have a lot of items that you'd need to make invitations or cards. And I love that you can buy envelopes and flat cards in bulk! So many sizes and colors! Other paper stores (even the art store) did not have things grouped in bulk and had less selection (since they're not specialized in stationary). They have ton of pre-made stamps that are fun as well as lots of fun pens/markers. They even have really cool gift wrapping (and the special glue you may need to use). And I love that they have classes you can take every month-- like learn how to make your own stationary, make mother's day cards, make your own wedding invitations... great. Plus, the girls in the back are really helpful and definitely are creative in figuring out how to reproduce what you want. I know that when it's crowded it's a pain to navigate. The folks working there always seem to be very helpful and are usually not shy about offering their input, not something that I am used to getting at Papyrus. For the DIY/crafter, this place is like heaven. Great selection of stationery, stamps, pens, cute cards, quirky gifts, etc. This location, particularly, is my favorite since the employees are not stuck up (cough cough, like the one in a neighboring suburb). Every time I've come in, I was greeted, asked if I needed help looking for anything, and the best part (for me): they actually ask me for my ID when I pay with a credit card. (All of my cards say "Check ID" on the back as a safety measure.) I truly appreciate that - since no one ever bothers to check with how ubiquitous credit cards have become. Shout out to Mariel who helped me when I was ordering my wedding invitations. She was super nice, explained everything thoroughly and clearly, and made sure that they were exactly what I wanted. Heaven - particularly for the DIY/crafter crowd that I occasionally join when I have the time. I had to write thank you cards after having one of my bridal showers, and since I hate buying those ugly thank you card packages in stationary stores I ran inside Paper Source in the hopes of finding an alternative. The salesgirl in their backroom was very helpful after I explained what I was going for, and she helped me choose colors for the paper card and envelope, as well as a gold gel pen so that I could write on the dark brown envelopes, and also the same brown color in an ink pad for the stamps I was purchasing that read "Thank You" "Merci" and "Gracias." I had 10 minutes, and she helped me get everything done so that I didn't miss my appointment! read more

Paper Source sucks me in and bleeds my wallet dry, mostly because I cannot resist spending $5 for hot pink glitter wrapping paper that is not even large enough to wrap a package in. I also really needed to spend $10 on that notebook for BIG IDEAS that is just like a regular notebook but prettier. Paper Source is a go-to place for artistic, unique cards, so you can avoid the awkward "all of my friends got me the same birthday card" scenario (unless all of your friends also shop at Paper Source). I'm a bit of a stationery snob and have a huge obsession with letterpress, and this is the perfect store for just that. They have tons of beautiful, simple, letterpress stationery for all occasions and a huge selection of wrapping paper in a lot of fantastic prints. This store is a million times better than Papyrus, which has gotten really tacky over the years. Why are all the wedding cards big and gawdy with a giant satin white dress glued on? Or a bridal shower card with a giant finger and a fake ring? Paper source also has crafting tools and great last minute gift items- cute aprons, kitchen gadgets, and glasware. I needed some unique Thank You cards for some of my staff at work and a friend/ colleague suggested Paper Source in Rittenhouse. Perhaps it's my love of all-things-paper that makes this an obvious one for me, but I had so much fun just perusing the inventory. From funny cards, quirky gifts, silly books and beautiful decorative paper, I can really spend some cash in this place! Which actually leads to my only quibble- it's kinda pricey. But I'm not sure that's really even a quibble. I mean, if you're shopping in Rittenhouse you should expect to pay- this isn't the Italian Market or the Springfield Mall. Paper Source is amidst the many higher-end stores in Philly. But I really didn't mind paying a little more, since I knew I was getting quality product that would be hard to find elsewhere. My purchases included some erasers with quotes on them like, "Shit" and "Holy Crap", a bundle of Smencils (smelly pencils), two packs of cute and unique Thank You cards and one card for my husband that had a sirloin steak illustration on the front and said, "Well Done!" Added bonus? The staff was really accommodating and kind. They were also a little form of mid-day entertainment, as they were dancing and singing to Depeche Mode as they charged my card and wrapped the goods up for me. I will definitely be back again since this is the perfect place to buy a gift that will guarantee a smile. read more

First of all, I love stationary, pens, cards and all that fun stuff so I wasn't thrilled with waiting for myself to check out this store while in a hurry but the service and selection was excellent and I know I will be back to feel every paper sample another time. Also, I love elephants and in every new stationary store I check out its the first thing I check for and bam! Elephant stationary! Anyway, as I said I was in a hurry and needed to write a thank you note out while in the store and bc they didn't have any monogram type stickers to seal my envelope with an associate offered to help me do a stamp embossing type thing which turned out beautifully and was such an extra nice touch! Maybe this store needed time to work its opening kinks out, because I had a pleasant experience shopping at the Philly Paper Source today. Several employees asked if I needed help (but weren't too pushy about it), and when I did have a question the sales girl gave a considerate answer. They also offered to bring my items to the front to free up my arms while shopping - because of course I had to browse even after getting what I had come for! Everything in the store is colorful, well made, and designed to add tasteful touches of fun to your everyday life. It's also expensive though, so try to exercise some restraint for your wallet's sake. I even picked up a workshops calendar and want to check one out - perhaps I too can sell quirky hand-bound books on Etsy? Ok, probably not - but it might be fun to learn! read more

Cute gifts. Cute decor. It's essentially an iteration of Papyrus, but slightly more affordable and with more inventive gifts and knick knacks. Fifty shades of Chicken? That's more my style. Gum to give you an Irish Accent? On this visit, the GF found a book for mother's day - essentially it poses a list of questions - What is your earliest memory of your mother, etc - you fill it out. I stopped in here on my lunch break one day and immediately loved pretty much everything in the store. I could've spent hours in there. They have a nice selection of stationery, cards, paper, and gifts (books, pillows, candles, mugs, and little knickknacks). That day I was on the hunt for (1) pretty paper to line a plain white tray I had just bought and (2) a card for my boyfriend since I wasn't loving anything I had seen at Rite Aid or CVS. After looking at dozens of cards (and making mental notes to come back for some) and patterns of paper, I was pretty happy with my purchases. What has happened to this wonderful store? All the goods are still there, but the employees are simply terrible. It never used to be like this. The last two times I have gone in, the employees are just short of rude in their complacency. Tonight, an employee was more concerned about his hair than welcoming or acknowledging customers. There is no one ever floating to help on the floor, they just sit behind the desk and tonight only had one line while another employee just sat there, (for reference, it is ten days before Christmas). Lastly, when I got to the cash out, I said I had an email from Paper Source for a discount on a purchase of over $100, but when I couldn't tell if it could be used in a store versus the website, the bad-hair guy didn't ask anyone or look at the email or do anything in the least proactive, rather he shrugged his shoulders and said "it's not the same in the store." Nice. And shame on Paper Source for that. Businesses want us to stop blindly ordering from Amazon and the like, yet this is how customers are treated? Poor company policy aside, the customer service at the store on Walnut St. in Philadelphia is currently abhorrent. read more
