Due to the fiasco at every VA across the country I could not get into see the Dentists when I first arrived in Portland. I was forced to pay out of pocket . I shopped around and read reviews unfortunately in this case they were not reliable. The hygienist cleaned my teeth and did a pretty good job. I was pretty happy she said my mouth looked good. The doctor later said I had a cavity although I had no pain and he could take care of it on the spot for a couple hundred. Having had my teeth drilled twice by unscrupulous dentist I decided to wait. It has now been a year and a half in that time I have had two exams with another dentists that found no problems with my teeth and I still have no pain. This guys a crook! As a veteran I am ashamed to have served a society that allows guys like this to prey on innocent people. I will be filing a complaint with American Dental Association. read more

I recently went in for a dental cleaning and check up and it had been awhile since my last dentist's appointment. The place itself looks wonderful but beyond that the staff is incredibly welcoming and talented as well. Seriously Amazing! My husband just came home from getting an emergency crown and he was honest to god EXCITED about his experience. Apparently it's all Iron Man techno awesome at Paradigm Dental. We have been patients of the Dr's Rust since they came to their existing location. We'd been with the previous dentist before she moved on suddenly. Prior to this emergency we had just used the Dr's Rust for basic cleanings and check up's. We could tell they were making improvements to the space but it had not really mattered to us because we were not in need of 'serious' dental care. Mostly we had just found the staff to be very kind and easy to work with and their prices seem affordable. Honestly, we did not put much thought into our dentist. All that changed last night at dinner when hubby suddenly grasped his mouth and said "oh crap, I just broke a tooth". We called into the Dr's Rust at 8pm and asked to be seen ASAP. They called us first thing and had him in by 11 am. Dr Brian had no problem shifting around his day to make room for the emergency. By 1:30 hubby was home with a brand new crown and slightly slurred speech. Dr Brian apparently took very detailed images with some sort of camera pen and then and then used the computer to digitally design the crown. Then he used some sort of magic box to print/carve a custom crown right on site. It sounds like a scene from the 5th Element to me. All I know is that my very nerdy hubby was seriously geeking out at the advancements the Dr's have made to this space. We are getting ready to leave town for the holiday's and frankly were worried that this tooth was going to take days to fix but no, Dr Brian had EVERYTHING fixed up within hours with no need for a follow up. I will recommend Paradigm Dental to EVERYONE. read more

The office which was once Dentistry By Design is now Paradigm Dental, as Dr. Karazzi sold her practice to Drs. Douglas and Brian Rust. I am happy to report the same glowing recommendation for the new practice as Elle H. did for Dr. Karazzi. I followed Dr. Brian Rust (aka Dr. Brian) over from Beaverton Dental Center when they made the switch at the beginning of the year. In all, I have been going to see Dr. Brian for about 3 years now. He has always been very caring and responsive to my comfort. Most importantly, I can tell Dr. Brian loves the science of dentistry. He is genuinely curious about every situation I've presented him with, and is eager to explain...almost give a mini-lesson on dentistry if you want...for any questions you may have. Dr. Brian is also very practical and doesn't lecture you for having a cavity or not flossing. He just wants to help and make you feel better. I would give Dr. Brian 6 stars if I could...I highly, HIGHLY recommend him and his new practice. read more

They always clearly explain what they're doing, any concerns they might have, or anything that I need to do. I always feel comfortable in their hands. I've been seeing Dr. Brian for about 2 years now. Love him. Hate that he's only at this practice one day a week now. He's incredibly patient and thorough. He always explains everything in detail, makes me feel comfortable. My kids are seeing him as well and they don't dread coming in. Office staff is nice. Assistants and Julia, the hygienist are efficient and pleasant and get you in and out without making you feel like just another patient. I love the same day crowns (I've had two now). Paradigm dental has been nothing short of miraculous. My husband hadn't been to the dentist in a while and Dr. Rust did everything he could to help ease the transition for him. The front desk staff are amazing and helpful and very personable - taking a real interest in their patients well- being. My husband has since had his wisdom teeth out and it wasn't the horror story I've heard from other doctors - it was as smooth as it could have possibly been. Dr. Rust also did fillings for me while I was pregnant and he was thoughtful and considerate and helped explain everything so that I was confident in my care and care of my unborn child. This review is based on only one visit. The office was very clean, nice, and modern. My new patient exam, X-rays, cleaning, and whitening were all done in one visit and I was in and out in about 1hr 15mins. The dentist, hygienist, and dental assistant were all nice, thorough, prompt, and answered all my questions. I felt like the service was gentle and attention was paid to my comfort throughout the visit. Definitely recommend them and I will make sure my husband switches to them also! read more

I hadn't been to the dentist in 6 years. I don't like going to the dentist and I was tired of rude hygienists and in-chair up-sells on products and procedures I was never quite sure I needed. Plus there was the pain and discomfort that usually comes with the kind of deep cleaning that my tartar-prone teeth often require. However, I have kids now and am starting to appreciate the amount of time and $$ that was spent by my folks on my dental health when I was a kid. I figured it was time to act like a grown-up and go see the dentist. I picked Paradigm Dental because of the user reviews here on Yelp! and because it is super close to my house. I could not be happier with my experience. Julia is far and away the best dental hygienist I've ever seen. No lecture, just honest talk about the shape my mouth was in, what it was going to take to get it in better shape (two cleanings, a week apart), and what I'd have to do at home between treatments (brush, floss, special mouthwash). She applied a numbing gel to my gums for the debridement and I had no pain or discomfort. No one had *ever* offered that kind of pain management for a cleaning before. Dr. Brian was equally amazing. He's another straight shooter. To my amazement (and maybe his as well) I only needed two fillings: one to replace filling that had fallen out and one for a cavity that was not quite a cavity but was going to be one. He told me that he saw at least one other place that looked like it might be a cavity coming on, but rather than drill it out, he wanted to just keep an eye on it. Imagine that, a dentist choosing *not* to drill the hell out of a suspect tooth. Today, I got those fillings that I needed. Totally painless. I didn't even feel the needle from the anesthesia (usually they say "get ready for a little pinch," which ends up feeling more like a wasp stinging my gums). Nothing. Nada. There was the usual nails-on-a-chalkboard feeling that comes with drilling and filing, but I expected that. Ragan, who assisted Dr. Brian on the procedure, was both professional and warm. During some downtime, we talked about beer, brewing, and the beer culture in Portland. She knows her stuff! Amanda, who works out front, is super-kind, remembered my name on each return visit and was on the phone with my insurance company during almost all of my procedures, getting approvals for treatments and letting me know what they would and would not cover. I was never felt like I was being "sold" anything. The entire practice delivered amazing care. I have my next appointment in 6 months and I'm actually *looking forward to it.* I'm sure my wife will be making Paradigm Dental her new dentists and I've already talked to them about bringing my kids over as well. Bottom line: If you have had bad experiences with dentists, if you have been away from the dentist for a while and have 'let things go,' you need to give Paradigm Dental a call. My family and I have been seeing Dr. Rust for about 15 years, Maybe more. Dr. Rust put braces on my oldest son when he was an early teen and has continued to be our family dentist through all of those years. I am someone who truly dislikes being in a dentist chair for any reason at all. It becomes kind of a white knuckle experience for me. Not unlike flying. That being said if it were not for Dr. Rust as well as his hygienists over the years I would have returned time after time. Recently I had a root canal that I would not have wanted any one else to work on. The office staff is equally as nice and easy to deal with. I could not ask for better service with them. I went to this office 4 years ago. I cannot remember the name of the dentist but the one who saw me was a female and I was under the impression she was the owner as well. She was VERY dishonest. I will admit it, the main reason I went in was because the place advertised FREE Zoom teeth whitening with a cleaning and exam. I had the cleaning and exam, and afterwards the dentist came and told me I needed about $1500 worth of dental work done. She said they would not give me the free whitening until I had that work done at their office. I am scared to death of the dentist so I did not go back. I did not go to the dentist for 4 years (yes I know it's bad) and when I finally went in to a local dentist that my family sees they did a full exam, x-rays, the whole nine yards, and they released me with a CLEAN BILL OF HEALTH. Yep, that's right, no cavities, nothing at all wrong with my teeth or gums. In fact they were surprised my teeth looked so good for not having them cleaned for so long (I credit this to my Sonicare toothbrush). I had a gut feeling when I was in Dentistry By Design that they the dentist was not telling the truth. I am SO glad I didn't listen to her and get all that work done. Not only would I have been scared out of my mind but out a lot of money too. So consider yourself warned! read more

I am still blown away by the incredible service at Paradigm Dental. The team got me in with short notice, coordinated a specialty visit and completed my care all within an incredibly tight timeframe - at my request. They did it with endless smiles and friendly welcomes. The office is filled with laughter, camaraderie and what comes off as friendship; it's obvious they work as a team and are cared for and appreciated. I consistently had comfortable and peaceful visits. They checked on me during my procedure to make sure I was doing okay and proactively informed me of next steps so there were no surprises. They had my best interest at heart the entire time - and helped educate me when I had questions. I just moved to Beaverton from California and my insurance is an HMO so I can't find a dentist to help, I call 1800 dentist they refer me to paradigm dental I go there and they let me know that they can't take my insurance so I was about to leave and a the front desk lady came running out after me and said that dr Brian rust said he would take me and look at it and it least get me some medicine if needed. I go back and dr rust was amazing he looked at my mouth took an X-ray and explained in an easy way what was going on with my tooth and let me know my options he gave me some antibiotics and pain medication and a list of what would need to be done with prices just in case I couldn't find a dentist my insurance works with he was extremely helpful and it was so nice of him to help me for free. If I can't find a dentist I will defiantly be returning to dr rust. read more

The actual cleaning process was good. The problem about this clinic for me was when the X-rays were performed. The technician did wear a pair of gloves and touched equipments, sorts of places, and then touched the insides of my mouth numerous times. The equipments looked uncleaned and the thought of bacteria being potentially transferred into my mouth from those equipments using the same gloves is CRINGE-WORTHY. Somehow I cannot get over the fact of the carelessness of this process. I never have had that concerns before. I expect those equipments to be covered with disposable plastic sleeves, where the sleeves are disposed after every patient. I also expect that the assistants and the hygienist are consciously aware where and what they have touched with their gloved hands before sticking their fingers in my mouth. read more

I highly recommend Paradigm Dental! From the front office staff, to the hygienist, to Dr. Rust (basically all employees you come in to contact with) everyone is professional, friendly, and the office makes you feel at home. It's nice to go in to an office where they remember your name and you don't have to sit in a lobby with 20 other people (there might be one other person.) Another plus is that they can almost do everything right there in their office. There is no need to run around town getting consultations and appointments with specialty dentists. Who has time for that? They also have the latest dental equipment right there! Did I mention that I live in SE Portland and still drive to Beaverton for my dental needs? I think Dr. Kharazzi is a very nice woman, but she is NOT one of the better dentists in town. I was lured by her marketing of free Zoom whitening and had a number of crowns replaced by her - that did need it. Unfortunately, she didn't do them well. I had big gaps at the bottom and grinding of the top surface so much to get the bite right that they ended up cracking into several pieces. Finally, like reviewers on CitySearch, I found another dentist by getting a good referral from a friend. I paid for that (free offer) and more by having to get each of those crowns redone by my current dentist at my own expense, due to insurance not paying for the same procedures twice within 7 years. I would continue my search if you are looking for a really good dentist. read more

Fantastic. It had been over 10 years since being to a dentist (bad bad bad) and I had previously went to another local dentist and received some very bad news. I had accepted my fate as it had been so long since my last visit but was urged to get a second opinion from several friends. Knowing this spot for their great location and a referral from a family member, I gave them a shot. After a quick check I was told I had only 1 cavity (other place told me 8) and would just need a cleaning (as opposed to a deep clean) and was able to get out of the office spending 10% of what the other office had quoted me. Cavities identified by the other office were not bad at all and would likely repair themselves with a high florid toothpaste, which I bought there. Was able to get back in in 8 days to get the 1 cavity repaired and was told it would probably take only 20 minutes - 1 hour if they had to do a bunch of numbing. I highly recommend Paradigm dental. I even more highly recommend getting a second opinion if something doesn't sound right. read more
