Viewed my urgent need for a Compassionate Dentist as a person who is hurting. And ignored me.

I love these guys. Kind, polite, helpful, caring, and the waiting room is a luxury hotel's lobby in miniature.

Absolutely horrible experience…read more I sought care here for a second opinion after negligence of my former dentist not informing me I needed a filling when needed it and at my next visit (6 mos later) saying I might need a Root Canal on the same tooth. I have never in my life been treated so poorly and unprofessionally than I have at this dental office. Minus one hygienist who moved out of the county (I saw one time for a cleaning) who was lovely. Everyone else I had experiences with was not positive. I was upfront about my situation when I set up the appointment. I was instructed I needed to change a part of my dental insurance on OHP to be seen to a community dental plan, this ended up NOT being the case and was just another incorrect issue I had to waste my time on correcting later. Getting seen was not easy at all, they have a massive list of OHP patients and all are on a rotation. So I had to breakup my appointments by tooth and procedure. Time consuming. Fast fw I was told I NEEDED THREE root canals, buildup and crowns at the cost of $8,000. I am low income. The staff or office who work with low income people are not trauma informed or are they cognizant in any manner of what to do if someone can NOT afford $8,000 dental work. No resources no compassion, just here is the cost. I left in tears. Making matters worse, I did not cause this issue it was the neglectful actions of a former dentist who did not inform me I needed fillings on these exact molars. (fast fw some...I did my own research and found a community health clinic on my own) But at the time, before I found the community clinic, I inquired to the front desk about referring me to OHSU dental school who work on a sliding scale. I also needed to share the records with my insurance to see if they could make an exception to cover the RC due to it being the fault of negligence from a former dentist. Again, all of this was discussed before I even had my first appointment here, that I was seeking a second opinion because of what transpired with Terwilliger dental. When I had my shell shock of the cost of the RC's and requested help with referrals to places I may be able to better afford- was when this went from bad to horrific. I am honestly still in shock from how I was treated. The manager sent me a letter discharging me from the practice and accused me of trying to scam the system to get "FREE" dental care. I kid you not. It went on with more discriminatory accusations and bias narrative to low income people. I was told by my dental insurance that they will sometimes cover Root Canals if they were in part caused by negligence of a former dentist. All I was trying to do was get records to supply to the insurance company, I never would have even had this idea if my dental insurance had not told me this. As I said I explained this before I even made my first visit and why I was getting a second opinion on three teeth that had been neglected with Terwilliger. For this clinic to fabricate accusation on my character, treat me like I am some scum for doing what my insurance told me to do, and asking them to refer me to a place I might be able to afford? is beyond disgusting. Unprofessional and dangerous. I am trying to save my teeth via proper channels and in no way whatsoever am I taking advantage of anyone. I would never set foot in this clinic if I was anyone else. PS the community clinic I was seen at and who got me in ASAP because of the urgency of my situation and my health conditions (including being disabled) was able to save all three of my teeth with NO root canals. It was a challenging filling on one tooth but it was night and day at the community clinic I was treated with respect and professional care. I also didn't need to spent $8,000! on root canals.

Everyone is very experienced and do their best to keep you pain-free during and after any treatments. I haven't seen a huge staffing turnover - I've been seeing the same hygienist for years. Dr. Mayerle is awesome, and I enjoy swapping travel stories with him, when I don't have tools in my mouth! I feel like if I had an issue with any work they did, they would do whatever it takes to make it right. Luckily, I haven't had any problems. The office is super clean and up-to-date, and they're doing a great job keeping everyone (staff and patients) healthy with their COVID precautions. They take my dental insurance (Delta Dental) and I've never had any billing issues. I highly recommend this practice if you're looking for a great dentist!

I'm a long-time friend of Dr. Tydeman's from high school, which you'd think would give him an…read moreautomatic advantage in the review department. Not so. I was actually way more nervous to see a dentist that's a friend, and we each had something on the other: I've got total dental phobia and didn't really want him to witness any childlike freakouts. And I've seen him... well, do all the stuff we all do in high school that makes you unsure your friends there will ever be competent professionals down the road. But Ian was different - always took his studies very seriously, treated others with respect, made good decisions. A diamond in the high school rough, you could say. I think he knew he wanted to be a dentist even then - he's had a passion for it as long as I can remember. So I decided to ditch my old drag-me-to-my-annual dentist and take my new toothache to Mayerle. The office was super clean, modern, convenient [right off the freeway and with a parking lot], and thoughtfully has a kids area in the waiting room with toys and a healthy teeth cartoon playing. Everyone there was fantastic. I'm rather complicatedly between insurance plans, and Alicia at the front desk went above and beyond to help sort it out. The whole team of technicians and assistants was kind, gentle, and knowledgeable. They all really seem to care about their profession and their patients. Dr. Tydeman is now the best dentist I've ever had. In my initial appointment, he took time to read and inquire about my health history on the new patient forms, and to consider its impact. At operation time, he patiently got me through my squeamishness (well, the Ativan helped too), and had a demeanor you could trust any scared kid with. He talked me through every step of my procedure so I'd know what was coming, and explained the situation with a mirror because I wanted to see. He was appropriately conservative in his treatment, which I appreciated emotionally and financially. I left the office, slept off the drugs with a nap, and by the time I woke up I couldn't even tell I'd had any work done. No sensitivity at all in the tooth or in the local anesthetic area, and it looks fantastic. Bottom line: I'm a dentist hater, and came to Mayerle with an extra-scrutinous eye. Dr. Tydeman and his team exceeded every expectation, and I highly recommend them - even if you don't need the babying I did.
