Larger number sites are closer to the loud but pretty creek while lower number sites are quieter and on higher ground.

The idea of driving through a fallen giant sequoia tree is pretty surreal and makes for a great photo opportunity. The area is easy to access, and the drive-through experience itself is quick but memorable. It's fascinating to see how massive these trees are up close--you really don't grasp their size until you're right there. That said, it can get crowded, especially during peak hours, so expect a bit of waiting if you want to drive through or take photos. Also, while it's cool, it's more of a short stop rather than something you spend a lot of time at. Overall, it's a fun and iconic attraction that's worth checking out at least once if you're visiting Sequoia. Just plan for a quick visit and bring your camera.

She is really such a sweetheart and I could tell she really loves and treats her horses like her children. I made our reservations over the phone and she kindly squeezed us a one hour trail ride in the evening even though she was booked up that weekend. She even took a nice photo for us! Christy was out of town, so her husband Steve was our guide on our tour. My boyfriend had Cowboy and I had Dollar as our trail horses. Steve was a great guy, he talked to us the entire tour explaining to us the surrounding areas we were passing and about the horses. The highlight of our ride is when we got to cross the river and the water came up over our ankles. Water felt amazing especially on a hot day. Steve was in no hurry to get back, we took our time enjoying our ride even talked to some locals that we passed on our ride. He even offered us free Gatorade and water. And also showed us inside of the home to see all of Christy's accolades especially her many many ribbons. I highly recommend this place.

A really lovely, rewarding trail that winds around a ridge far above the Kaweah River. To get to…read morePanther Creek/Falls the trail is mostly uphill. The hills aren't very steep and it shouldn't be an issue unless you've got about 50lbs of gear on your back, like myself. I definitely needed to take breaks often as this trail did not offer much shade and it must have been around 75F outside. The trail is narrow and shared with horses so you'll have to dodge horse poop from time to time. Lots of lovely flowers and amazing views of the river. Watch out for snakes and poison oak (there is a TON of poison oak...make sure you know what it looks like before going!) There are 3-4 streams to cross, mostly just rock hopping. The water is pretty shallow if you just want to walk through. Gorgeous waterfalls and lots of lizards! Once you arrive at Panther Creek, you'll hear the turbulent waters of the river below and will be offered spectacular scenery. There is a campsite right at the end of the trail if you plan on staying overnight, otherwise this is the turnaround point for this hike. If you continue on uphill past the campsite, you'll find the continuation of the trail that will take you to the lovely Redwood Meadow.

Our original trip was canceled by closed road to the trail, so we randomly picked one that was available. All along the trail is gorgeous, and very soothing with the sound of massively flowing river. Pretty wild flowers and cute marmots, if you are fortunate, may be some black bears? you need to cross few creeks, which is not that hard at all. Beautiful massive granites everywhere, and tasty water. I really enjoyed this trip. Oh, plus very cute camping spot as well.. Only thing that bothered me was campers before us left some trash at the site, so we had to bring it out. Please take your own trash out and don't be such shitheads. Bad karma will follow you til you pay for your deed. I am feeling pretty awesome now after this trip :-) -moderate, short hike, no hardcore up or downhills.

But I wanted the views and the challenge and knew that I could always stop or turn around, so I agreed to go for it - and boy am I glad that I did! It was nice that the trail itself was not very busy because it was a weekday, but we did see maybe 5 other groups of people hiking. It did stress me out a bit since I'm slow and had to let people pass me, but I had to get over that and it was only a few people so it was not a big deal. I wouldn't say that the trail is too crazy challenging (7 miles each way and 3,759 elevation gain). It's somewhat of a constant incline the entire way up but nothing that I couldn't handle if I went at my nice, slow (~30 minute a mile) pace. We did this on the third day of our trip, so fortunately I didn't have to battle altitude (headaches and nausea) the same way that I had to the first two days. I also drank close to 4 liters of water, which is definitely double what most people probably need for this hike. The views are nothing short of stunning. The watchtower is unreal, and the view of Heather Lake is unlike anything I'd ever seen before. Definitely worth it! For the serious hiker, this is probably pretty easy (there was a guy doing it in sandals who went right by us, got to the end of the trail, turned around and came back before we even got to the end of it) but still very satisfying. Highly recommend!

It is a strenuous hike but when you get to the treeline you are at the Watchtower which is a massive rock face above a sheer drop into a valley. You then can take a trail along the edge of the cliff to several alpine lakes. We went to heather lake - you can swim and chill out there or hike on to two more lakes. We only went to the first one and then headed back- we were pretty wiped. It's a long day but so worth it.

Marvelous experience! Truly deserving of its title Tallest Peak in the Contiguous US. We went the…read morelonger 45-mi route from Cottonwood Pass, which took us 3 days 2 nights. Camped 1st night in the forest by a creek, 2nd night by Guitar Lake. Lots of privacy throughout this ordeal. Each day we passed about 10 ppl each. Heard cows mooing. Saw pikas, marmots, chipmunks, and fighter jets. Mesmerizing night sky completely blanketed with stars. Tough altitude experience. Lightheadedness and windedness from AMS will kick your butt. Better train beforehand by hiking shorter mountains such as San Gorgonio (11.5k', tallest peak in SoCal). Many people camp at least one night somewhere along the trail to help acclimate/acclimatize to the lower air density overnight. Turns out the hut at the summit (14.5k') will protect you from lightning. You will definitely need a water filter. Don't wanna lug 5 L of water for 20+ miles. Refill your bottles at creeks and lakes.

We were very lucky to snag a couple of last minute permits. Drove 4 hours and started hiking at 1…read moream. Summit the mountain around 8 am and enjoyed our time at the top. The views are amazing and the 99 switchbacks seem like eternity. We got back to the parking lot at 6pm and drove home. Weather was great at about 40 degrees. An unforgettable adventure.
