The gentleman there was very helpful, told me the things to look out for, and recommendations. He did all this out of courtesy, and for free. So, I just got off the phone with Paradise Nursery. Last year, we bought two dwarf cherry trees from them. When we bought them, we asked if they would warranty through the winter. They said yes. Planted them both in my landscaping, about 6 feet apart. Provided the same care to both. Noticed one late last fall/early winter heading into, what I believed was, dormancy before the other. I've attached the picture of what we have now. They won't back their product because they didn't plant it and because of the spring we've had so far. I won't be back. Update in response: I didn't get upset until you said that you would not follow through with what you said. I followed the directions you gave on planting. We discussed my plans for the landscape (including use of stone instead of mulch) and you made no suggestions about mulch vs stone. I expressly asked you if you would warranty the plant through the winter and you said yes. When you told me that you wouldn't follow through on your promise, that's what upset me. And so now, I'm done. read more

I spent $150 on a weeping cherry tree and exactly 9 days later it was completely dead. I have planted several trees and shrubs in the past and have never had a problem. I went back with pictures hoping they would help me somehow and I was told there is no warranty and I was out of luck. A few days later I went back again to talk to someone else and it was almost as if they were hiding from me. it took 20 minutes to get someone to come out of the house. It's safe to say I will never go back to Paradise and absolutely will not recommend them. I live in Lawrence and love supporting Lawrence businesses but this left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

Paradise is this nice little gem of a nursery that is really much bigger than a little gem. Like others, I've driven passed it a dozen times never giving it a second thought. A few weeks ago I was looking for some larger Kings Gold false cypress and none of the larger nurseys in town had them. So I Yelped Nursery, saw that Paradise came up and was really close, called them. Not only did they have what I wanted but in a great selection of 5 gallon. John and his crazy, loveable father offer fantastic customer service--a small town local type of feel. Far from any corporate flavor. These are the kind of folks you want to do biz with. I've since purcahsed many items from them including a wonderful specimen Jap Maple BloodGood and John came out and installed it. Great knowledge about everything. Very helpful. I would recommend Paradise 100% Side note: They have a HUGE selection of all these little yard and lawn trinkets: Stone statues, benches, pots. I purchased this really cool authentic half whiskey barrel as a cool conversation piece outdoor table. When it rains it smells exactly like bourbon! read more

We stopped by on the weekend looking for a tree, some bushes, and some flowers. John took probably 30-45 minutes away from what he was working on to show us a bunch of different options, specifically those that would do well for our specific space and would fit our taste. He was patient with how picky I am and we are very happy with what we ended up getting. Slightly cheaper options can probably be found at the big stores, but you won't get the customer service, variety, or quality that you will here. We'll definitely be back when we're ready to do another round of planting to continue filling out or landscaping. read more

Wow. This guy is incredibly rude. Came here at 5:20 (they close at 6) to check out a specific tree. Sign says to check in and out at the front. My husband and I waited up front until a guy came out of the house on the phone. He held his hand out in front of him until he said to us that he was on the phone and that they were "actually closed". Maybe he should close the gate and change the signage then. But that wasn't really the problem I had. It was his terrible attitude. Stopped by Dammann's earlier today, and thought I'd shop around, but their customer service won me over. I will never be coming back here! read more

I'm only giving them a 1 star rating because zero was not an option. We stopped by to purchase citronella plants. We were rudely informed by a male representative that they only sell trees and shrubs and we close in 5 minutes. Really?!? You talk to customers that way? I informed him that we needed shrubs and a tree since we are refreshing our back yard and patio area. However, we will NOT be buying from you. I called last week to see if they have a particular shrub to match the others in my landscape. He proceeded to tell me that I didn't know the shrubs currently in my landscape. But then, when I told him of the reputable nurseries that I had purchased the other shrubs from he backed off. He then proceeded to tell me that since they are no longer on patent there are probably different variations today. I explain to him the info on the tags of the existing shrubs I have. He offered to send me a picture of the tag from his inventory so I can compare it to the mine. I provided him with my contact information, I have text him a couple of times since then and I have still not heard back. Ultimately, this man was extremely rude to tell me I didn't know what I was talking about and then to not respond to my multiple follow-ups. Not very nice. My family and I stopped by here in late August and were shocked by what we saw. From the road it looks nearly kept and wonderful. However most their plants were half dead and horribly maintained; not to mention expensive. It was sickening. The only things I found that were halfway decent was a hand full of trees and holly bushes. Needless to say; we didn't purchase anything, nor will we be back. read more

As many others have stated this is a hidden gem. Except it's not really hidden! For years I have driven by..sometimes daily. .yet never stopped, thinking all they had were trees and shrubs. Today I Did stop as they were displaying gorgeous coral ever blooming roses. Wow..in addition to trees, shrubs, landscaping boulders, statuary... .oriental. ..pacific ..eclectic, they have a vast selection of perennials. Yes, they are a bit more expensive but over the years I have learned to bulk buy at the big box stores and save these special privately owned local businesses for the special plantings. John was extremely helpful with a variety of landscape solution questions. ..this was while juggling other customers and weighing multiple boulders for a couple . When he excused himself from the "boulder couple" to ring up my purchase, they let loose with the most offensive barrage of insults and language...including calling John a racist. All for diverting his attention from them. Seriously? All customers were white, John, Asian! I do not know how John held his composure throughout this insulting display. If anything, the manner in which he handled this guaranteed I will return for future landscaping purchases, enhanced by the diversity of their inventory. read more

Seriously rude! I went here with 300.00 to purchase several species, and was given the cold shoulder. A sign in the lot said check in first! so I did that. The guy watering plants I would assume is John asked me what I was doing? I said the sign says to check in! He said what do you want, and so I ask if he has any Palm species? he proceeds to tell me they cannot grow here. Now that I am reading his website they claim to be so educated! just not enough to know that Palms do, and will grow here! See Wells nursery in Greenfield for a 30 year old Palm tree! I proceeded to tell him I have a Windmill Palm that is 10 feet tall in my yard. He looked at me like I was crazy! So, I tried another approach to try, and buy a yard ornament from him! He tried to insult my intelligence on a sheet metal rooster that is about a foot tall! he said 75 dollars! I was like really! What John don't know is I am one of the top sculptors of Polynesian, Tiki, statues, and have sold them all over the world! I do not charge that much for a hand carved Moai or Tiki of that size. After that I told my son lets go! we proceeded to Wells Nursery, and got everything we wanted all tropical species that won't grow here! Sorry John, but you need to be more polite to potential customers! I ended up spending 342 dollars yesterday not 20 minutes after I left your place. read more

We had the pleasure of working with John at Paradise Nursery on a large tree planting project for the Hindu Temple of Central Indiana. John discussed our needs and our budget for planting 36 trees. His proposal gave us the very best value for our budget in terms of size of trees and selection that suited our property. Since we had plenty of manpower, John dissuaded us from hiring him to do the planting and instead guided us in terms of the right equipment we could rent to do the digging and then they came out and demonstrated proper planting technique. The savings from planting ourselves (thousands!) allowed us to get more beautiful trees then we had imagined and we stayed in budget. Our project turned out to be a huge success! If you only care about price without considering size/quality then this is not the place for you. But if you value dealing with a locally owned family business and working with professionals then this IS truly Paradise! read more
