I took him the bare bones of a custom design and he created a work of art. The needles are new, the equipment is sterilized and he wears gloves and a mask when creating. His prices are extremely reasonable for such a talented tattooist. Its easy to find him - from the hotel zone take any R1 bus downtown and ask the driver to stop at el ayuntamiento (City Hall). Cross to the other side of the avenue (av. Tulum) and turn right towards the traffic circle. Kukulcan Tattoo Studio is located in a small strip mall right before the circle. Make the effort to get out of the hotel zone and you will be pleasantly surprised.

Unfortunately, I didn't catch the names of the lovely people working there, but I wholeheartedly recommend making an appointment. The woman at the counter spoke excellent English and translated for us, and the tattoo artist did a fantastic job on my piece. It wasn't a big tattoo, but his suggestions and advice made it clear he's capable of much more. The studio was spotless, and he showed me the new, sealed needle before starting. I felt completely in good hands the entire time.
